if anyone thinks regulated power from the line is too much, i suggest getting a diesel generator. it is cheaper to run, plus you are the only one that knows usage.

A grower near me was busted because neighbors complained about the diesel generator. Even in a rural area, the sound and vibrations can travel far.

only for stealing. now everybody just pays their bills and PGE aint worried about. saw my buddies bill the other day 4200 bucks....

In my opinion, what constitutes getting a warrant is almost irrelevant. If you've sufficiently raised suspicion, you will probably end up getting served with a warrant. That's the reality of the country we live in.

If police are tipped to your grow via high usage (a commonality in many areas), they will invent a reason to get a warrant. Does anyone seriously believe that there are police agencies out there whom have been contacted by electric companies about a potential grow operation who will sit on the information until sufficient evidence shows up?

Please. They'll invent a reason. Plant a reason. Whatever.

i think its funny that you guys say no warrant on 2400w i hate to scare all you people but read this news article electric spike from 900kwh - 1400kwh leads agents to bust. hahah rediculous

he utility bills showed that electricity usage at the Pyle Road residence has spiked each May since 2007, Special Agent John Wardwell stated in the warrant.

During 2007, the average monthly kilowatt hours used was 857, which increased to 1,160 during May 2007, the warrant stated.

During 2008, the average power usage in kilowatt hours was 901, which spiked to 1,158 that May.

During 2009, the residence used an average of 951 kilowatt hours per month with a spike in May 2009 of 1,465.

Nice catch.

There are countless others that I've seen over the years. Not to mention god knows how many in which the culprit was an anonymous tipster.

if your running and electric bill any higher then $1000 where i am the electric company will come check to see why the spike occurred. Just have to think of a good "cover" and notify them about the power going up before they see it and red flag you.

Ive seen 2 growhouses get kicked in by the mdea for high power consumption. One grow was running $1700/month electric... they were on there 2nd run... but there problem is that they had been both selling and growing from the same location. They had lived there years previous before they decided to grow. so chances are the heat was already on them... fucked up how the mdea subpoenaed the electric bill to get a warrant. So either the agents get the info from the electric company on certain individuals or the electric company is notifying the mdea. one of the 2. either way if your running over $1000/month i would consider moving your grow every 12months so they dont have time to form a case on you. cat and mouse... fun game if you ask =)

Dayum! What kind of lights & how big a grow were they doin?

You're missing the big picture here. It wasn't his electric bill that caught the cops attention. They already had a suspicion and were investigating him. His electric bill confirmed their suspicions...

I have a really close friend over at BC Hydro and asked him about all the usage issues.

He said that every bill is electronically printed and none are inspected unless they fall in to to 2 categories.

1) Late payments.

2) Over 93 kilowatts.

THat is not enough to get a warrant.

not enough for warrent even if its very large.. It will be enough for the cop to watch u wit a personal vendetta..

Nope, they have to have some other reason to suspect your growing.

stealing power although.... will get you busted!

2400w is nothing I would worry about.

Wrong

Obviously if they are pulling your electric records, they already have suspicion. They will use your electric records plus whatever made them suspicious.

You say no, but quite a few busts I read about involve pulling electric records.

Cops got involved in my op, pulled electric records and got a warrant

While I agree the electric solely wont be enough PC, lets not forget what happened in Austin

good quote...
"Fishing through the lives of 1,000's to get to a small handful of suspects.

It's nice to know that anybody with an electric dryer/ stove/ hot tub / secondary AC unit/ or multiple PCs, can now be considered an automatic suspect worthy of having a warrant issued for the search of their home without their consent or knowledge.

The article makes it clear that just being a property owner in which your renter has broken the law is now deemed worthy of seizing your guns, and ALL of your property by federal officials. It's often difficult to tell whether the FBI is in the business of law enforcement, or more closely related to the mafia when it comes to their actions.

But hey, who cares about these scumbags that are growing a god-given plant? Nobody, of course. Which is what makes these controversial actions questionable because using these confiscation tactics is such a cash-cow for the APD & the FBI.

However, those people whom are capable of critical thinking can recognize that when one demonized group loses their right to privacy in the name of safety and security, we as Americans all suffer a loss of those rights. Especially when those actions actually have little or nothing to do with either safety or security. "

Why would the power only spike one month out of the year? Am I missing something?

he wasnt flowering, just vegging before he put them outside. Vegging in May means June, July, August, September, October, for outside. In the US, that is at least a couple months outside veg, then 2 months flower time. Pretty sure of it.

The other issue is it says an average for 11 months, then shows a peak in one month. I bet if you looked at all the months, you would find other high months

fuck the police

Ha! Thanks! I guess I couldn't get why anyone would veg for 30 days then put them out to veg some more.

In this case, yes. However, how often does a 15 an hour power company employee play hero and turn over "suspicious consumption?"

I'm guessing all the time. As alluded to earlier, these people are trained to look for suspicious activity to report.

I think the power companys will be perfectly happy to keep taking the money from you and not say a word unless the police do become involved as they wont be making any money from you if they stick you into the police, but IF the police do become suspicious of you for any reason and do contact the power company then im pretty sure they will give the police everything they got on you, and i know some people have said pay your bills on time, wont be a problem which i agree with to a certain extent, but what happens when it does become a problem and you electric bills start to show up abnormal usage which has been pointed out by the links that have been posted, its becoming much harder for us all to grow and i think people should be very careful about their power usage as a lot more people are getting busted just because of irregular readings, and thanks for keeping the thread going guys as I think its a very important topic for every1 that does grow and it does need to be spoke about, be safe people.
