harvesting questions

so DL, tell me why you get products for the last ~10 days of flower i.e General Hydroponics' Ripen. i use it and it's great. last feed is 2 - 3 days from harvest. all your positive-negative ion crap is bullshit. the fact is the plant needs nutrients when it flowers. depriving it of food means it will never reach its full potential. nutrients stored in the plant will be used up. that's why some of your nugs have yellow leaves! deficiency!

Hydroponic ripen is for hydroponic systems... :chin:

hydroponic substraits are inert :chin:

under natural conditions plants pull nutes from the fan-leaf as they ripen :canabis:

you want me to continue...

[edit: just posted you some positive karma for your spirit] thanks dL

you can use GH in hydro or in soil, dude! besides, even if it is hydro, the same principle applies! you want those nutrients out the bud.. right? or the taste will be shit.. right? do you see hydro growers stop feeding 3 weeks before harvest?!

If they did, the plants would die!
In hydroponic systems, plants rely on periodical feeding to roots as a means of survival. In contrast in soil, plants slowly take up nutes as/when they are required. (this is basic stuff)!

Dude you are indeed high-on-chronic, no stress, but Please Think before you type! hehe

yes and..? if you stop feeding 3 weeks before harvest, the nutes in the soil will run out (even more so if you flush with water!!) and the plants will not be able to develop to their full potential.. that's why your bud leaves have chlorosis! deficiency because you cut their food supply!

please answer my Q, why do GH make hydro/soil nutrient formulas for the last 10 days of flower? GH is not the only brand, there are many late flower fertilisers..

there are many different brands on the market... most of the ones that are designed for the "final stages of bloom" contain minimal amounts of trace elements. these elements are freely available in a good soil mix anyhow... this includes pre-mixed soil.

For hydroponic systems these products provide artificial elements, replicating those that are represented in soil... so seems you gotta use them to improve final vigor and taste.

It's a PERSONAL thing. but this doesn't give anyone the right to think they can start calling people that do things differently... abit of respect that's all.

hope this helps
peace dL

[N.B. the photos in my gallery come from various sources... most of the shit plants are my own strains,, grown out in Europe,,, samples are samples,,, the dank strains belong to Growdoc.) cheers

so.. how can you stop feeding 3 weeks before harvest and not even use ripening solution?

i guess you're talking about organic soil mixes..

P.S please don't jump into any other concepts!! :D

Wow Im not trying get in the middle of this shit, but you only need to flush according to nutrient buildup still left in the soil. Meaning in order to properly gauge the flushing time, one would need to constantly check the runoff throughout the grow to see what the ladies are taking up and leaving behind (and how much). Homie was right when he said he needed to flush for 3 weeks (if his ladies have been overferted), and the other homie was right saying he didn't (if his ladies were not overferted)......it all depends on the ladies and the particular situation at hand.....

easy on the flames home boys, hotc has some very impressive results, just as dl so don't go throwing insults around. just because you both don't follow the norm doesn't meen either one of you grows crap weed. if we all grew the same way this would be a VERY boring community

critism is good, insults are bad.

personally i feed all the way up to the last week then flush because i use chem ferts, if i used organics i think that you could push it even closer, but this is all dependant on the strain

some love lots of food, others don't.

Best post in this thread. In the words of Sleepy, "What works for Grower A., won't neccesarily work for Grower B."

We all have our own way of doing things, and that's good. If you put dip your fries in ketchup, and you see someone eating them without ketchup, would you start telling them that they are eating wrong? I have seen posts and pics from both highonthechroni, and DocLeaf. You are both obviously talented growers. Niether of you are wrong. It's all about personal preference. Not to mention that different strains need different things.

DocLeaf- This was directed more towards chroni. You never trashed his methods, you simply defended your own.

chroni- I would never dare to give you grow tips or advice. You are obviously more experienced and talented at growing than myself. But you should definitely not tell other experienced growers that they are wrong. You can always just say something like...."Hey Docleaf. I always use ferts right up to harvest. There's some great Ripening solutions that can give your buds that extra boost towards the end. What are your reasons for stopping ferts 2 to 3 weeks before? This is different than what I do, and I am able to get some great lookin buds with my method. I was just wondering why you do this?"
That would have been how I approached it. But that's just me. I just don't like to see two people who have a ton of knowledge to share with us noobs, go at each other like that.

OGrefugee- That was a great post. It's good to know that there are some cool people in the Keystone State.

Peace

Notcoolzeuss: what ever, i was angry that DL was spreading false information. the least he could have said was "this is for organic mediums only". if i used chemical ferts and stopped 3 weeks before harvest, i would get shitty bud thanks to DL's comment.

Hmmmmm. That's a good point. Now I'm confused. I guess both of you were only doing what you thought was right. Noobs should always take advice with a grain of salt. No advice from others is ever guaranteed to work. You're right chroni. However, so is DocLeaf. It just seemed as though both of you let a conversation about growing techinques get personal. I never like to infighting in the cannibas community.

And as far as the above quote, I understand that you thought DocLeaf was incorrectly informing others, but again, who's to say that your buds would have been shitty? Don't you think it depends on the strain, and how often you've been ferting all along, and whether you've been periodically flushing throughout the whole grow, etc? The point is.....once again, just because one of you is right, doesn't mean the other is wrong. There are too many variables which factor in to the situation.

Peace

PS-chroni, I don't mean to offend. Like I said, I hate to see my brothers and sisters fighting. Like I said, you've grown some really nice stuff, and I have no doubt that you know what you're talking about, it was just the tone of the argument between the two of you that bothered me. I'll get back to minding my own business now.

Peace

...no wonder that ''nug'' you posted is all fluffy! and you're growing under a 1000watter which is meant to give you helluva dense nugs.. BAH!! not if you stop feeding 3 weeks before harvest!!

The reason the buds are "foxtailed" at the top and dense at the base is due to excessive heat (and the fact that this isn't ya typical hybrid)...

Too much heat and poor air = buds stretch so stomata can breath...

we never mentioned how many watts... and we aren't about to either!
Please... don't show your inexperience in these matters... you're showing your self up already! hehe

hope this helps

highonthechroni: spoke to several experienced hydro growers (that used to do soil) about NOT adding ferts to soil in the last 2-3 weeks... they ALL agree!

DocLea: yes, using organics i can understand that someone may stop 3 weeks before. but not when you use chemical nutrients. you should have specified that you should stop adding fert 2 - 3 weeks prior to harvest only if you're using organics. you posted false information which could have fucked up someone's grow in that their bud would have not reached full potential.. all because you never told them 'ONLY FOR ORGANICS".

dude, i'm not a gangster, please don't talk to me like one.

thanks,

peace! :D

Hey Docleaf nice to see you over here as well =)

I'm with the doc on this one.. I stop my fertz about 2 weeks before the chop, then flush about 7 days before also. A techique I picked up on harvesting that I like to use is 2 days before the chop try giving your plant total darkness 36-48 hours no light. As you can see from my gallery I grown some very chocolately and salty nugs. keke

Are you using a flushing agent the last week? Or are you just flushing with plain water for 3 full weeks?
