5. I was panicking about the weight it could hold. I've had a 6 kg light and on top of that the weight of fans and filter. I was told by a number of suppliers this tent would easily hold the weight.
Thanks for sharing that info James!

What type of filter do you have mounted on the ceiling, and how heavy is it? What type of fan? Got any pics for us?

Just went to Homebox's official website and found that they still use plastic corners. I see that they're also using the small-tooth metal zippers rather than the big-tooth plastic zippers that was used on my HydroHut.

With the HomeBox's plastic corners, I'm afraid they might crack with too much weight. I'd feel much more comfortable mounting a 40-50lb carbon scrubber on the ceiling of a HydroHut with welded metal corners.

If HydroHut came in a 47" x 47", I'm thinking I'd be better off with that and cutting some larger holes. 52" x 52" isn't that much bigger, but 47" x 47" is already stretching it for a 600w light (~40wpsf vs ~32wpsf). I guess it'd be possible to enclose the area somewhat, but I'm not sure.

Yeh no probs.....I'll give you a few pics.
The plastic corners are ok..I had heard they could cause a problem but thought I'd try it anyway. I've just wored out that 40 punds is very heavy. I work in grams and kilo's...sorry. I have to say I love my homebox but to tell the truth I think it would struggle with that sort of weight,
At the min I've got a cool tube, rvk125 fan and budget carbon filter hanging from it....acctually abit weed aswell...lol...I'm drying.
Not to sure of the total weight but I think it'll be less that 40lb.

There not the best pics but you get the idea.

Better pics of the set up I just took

This is a pic of my fan and carbon filter. There have been no probs with weight....touch wood

My tent's set up....air gets sucked through the filter, over the light and out side the tent. Because of how the homebox is set up this causes a negative air presure making the home box very sturdy and tight.

Same again with the set up......some white widow drying too.

Cheers guys

nice pics bro! Just to let you know, my filter is about DOUBLE the size of the one you got there hanging.

I'm kind of stuck with this filter and fan that I have. Bought it last year for a whole room grow, I never did:(

I'd post a pic, but it's in the attic, along with all my other supplies;)

CLOWNTOWN:

Don't worry bro, you couldn't even hang a 40lb filter from a Hydro Hut. I've been fooling with it ever since we've been talking about it on this thread, and it AINT GOING TO HAPPEN!!. Even if you could, it starts taking up head room, and it gets too crowded!!

the zippers they use are actually very tough and because they don't hold much weight they wont be a problem and will last for years (HydroHut overkilled it a bit) , and the plastic corners are too very strong and can hold up quite a bit of weight, with the HydroHut they use welded corners which if done wrong by someone in a rush or whatever the thing would come crashing down and it would be hard to fix, also the plastic connectors made of nylon.

If you want e-mail the HomeBox guys and ask them if it can hold up a 40lb carbon scrubber ( i did), be sure to ask if they can give you a picture because they gave me one of a carbon scrubber that looked 2' wide being held up by the HomeBox.

I can say I was dissapointed when I saw plastic corners but after putting them to the test the homebox corners hold up. The weakest link actually appears to be the metal tubing used for the frame but it aint weak in any way. This is my rig, using a CAN filter (model 2600) and the matching 4" CAN fan. This rig works perfectly. The 600W ballast (electric not a core and coil) is sitting on top of the box as well as a 6" can fan and a duct muffler (that is ventilation for the area around the homebox). The zipper on the homebox is tops as well. I dont care what the competitor says on its website.. that zipper has survived some serious abuse.

With all the crap I have weighing down my homebox, the metal poles (the frame) are bowing a little.. hopefully the company will look into some thicker tubing in the future. Has anyone ever had a corner break on one of these?? If not then lets drop the plastic corners issue.

Oh, the bowing of the poles doesn't affect the box at all.. Its just one of those things thats noticable and not perfect. Im ripping down my first homemade rig day after tomorrow and replacing it with another homebox (that I got from cheaphydroponics.com).

Peace!

in the past they had a problem where they had a bad batch of the corners (wasn't formed or mixed right) so some did break, but they fixed it and sent everyone that needed them a new set, that was about 2 years ago and I haven't heard about anyone having a problem with them breaking since, and if you need new tubes you could just buy some steel rods that are the right diameter and length to replace them.

Hmm, yea I think I remember that, the corners on the smaller homebox (I have the XL - should have mentioned that). But yea I heard they took care of people too.

I will keep that in mind about the steel tubes, I know it wouldnt be too hard to replace them if they ever bend (vice bowing). Untill then though, Im just gunna let um bow.

Oh and to all the clowns that are setting these things up in your bedroom like people arent going to notice.. hahaha.. Are you kidding me? I would say bare minumum get a place with an extra bedroom.. then fill that bedroom with random crap.. you know.. pack rat type stuff that is completely uninteresting. Fill the room wall to wall and make it messy.. then stick one of these homeboxes along the back wall.. then put a deadbolt lock on the door to the room. Do not skip the last step! Now when people come over or ask you have a junk room with a bunch of crap in it.. nothing interesting. If anyone ever gets too curious you can open the door and flash the room full of junk and then move on.. act VERY upset about them seeing a cluttered room.. keep the rest of your house/apt neat and organized to make that sound believable.

Simple as that!

Oh and I have seen the poles on both the homebox (own two) and the hydro hut (sold at local hydro store). They looked and felt the same to me. The Hydrohut did have the metal corners but again.. thats proven not too important. Overall I am more pleased with the homebox.. its cover fabric setup struck me as far superior to the hydro hut. But then again.. its probably all looks.
