Always on point Nore! I’ve been pretty busy in the greenhouse and growbox so I decided to keep my cuts vegging for a bunch of weeks and actually under an 11watt neon! Roots are ok, but the upper part isn’t that great but they are still alive and now vegging properly so I think that in case of emergency it’s something we can do :D

Nice root mass!
Are you still using the mist cloner? If so, how long do you keep cuttings in there and how do you keep the solution's temp down (ultrasonic fogger heats up the water a lot)?

Nope, I'm not using it right now, switched to eazyplug/root riot.

Water temp is not a problem until you keep it clean the system and roots are not into the solution, but exposed only to mist. Oxygen will keep things clean for you.

When roots reach the water, issues start, as the O level is very low.

You can use a timer and go for 15 minutes ON/OFF cycles to cool the water a little bit, but if you do this, you would seal the root zone with some metal or plastic to avoid air exchange in the 15 minutes OFF cycle, otherwise cutting will probably dry out if the room humidity is not high.

As you see that system is not perfect and requires more work, but certainly you can get very nice rooting.

If you don't want to use mist but only regular sprayers consider they work really good till the cuttings have some little roots. They don't work good when cuttings have more and a lot of roots, because the water flow tend to create a compact root mass. Here you can switch to mist and let the cuttings make some nice roots, meanwhile they can stay hydrated because some roots are already there to do their work ;)

Yeah the point is to use little cuttings and this way they can be kept for pretty a long time in a relative small space, like filling a 120x120 box with 400 different phenotypes or even more (I'm always used to take 2 cuts of the same pheno).

I'll use this ''shortcut'' in the future to make this selection part easier and increase the total plant's number I can grow at the same time.

I am building a mist cloner.
Already have 3 utrasonic foggers, 370 x 310 x 280 or even 405 x 365 x 280 internal measures boxes.
Got some plexiglass sheets to build the dome myself, I was thinking of going high, like 40cm, leaving a lot of space to the clones to grow as I would like to veg them there and then move them to hydro and go straight into flowering.
What do you think?

I don't like this idea too much, unless you're growing aero.

Main reason is adapting time. When you move the plant from the mist cloner and put it in other medium, like perlite, clay pebbles and so on, the plant need some days to adapt and start growing again. If you do this right in the switch, you can end with reduced size plants.

Now, it also depends on how many plants you have and other things...but overall try to bring in the flower room only big and healthy plants, plenty of roots and ready for a great flowering.

I see. So you suggest giving it some time to adapt before switching?
What about converting the rdwc to aero by just putting a mistmaker in each tank-pot?

Heat is the main issue. 2 and more months in the same space, with a lot of heat...I see a disaster coming.

Yes for sure. Good rooted healthy plants, not too small and preferably not too big depending on your space. Knowing the cut you know how much it will stretch before budding, so you just consider all the factors and zap, put everything in the flower room.

2019 starts with a new selection where I hope to find good aromas and at the same time no intersexual traits. The show must go on!

Mainly I will take a look into tropicanna cookies and tropicanna punch line from ONI seeds and Mango widow from Mr.Nice (thank you B). Along these I added various different strains, most of them are regular but I also have some females.

Regular Seeds

I cut 4 exodus cheese recently, the system was contaminated by springtails (pics in this post).
I was wondering what they were eating as the medium is not organic and I didn't use anything organic...so I let the 4 plastic pots alone after the harvest, waiting a week before pull out the root mass and take a look at it to see if I could find springtails or root damages.

I found this:

Apparently springtails did nothing to roots, even after the harvest when roots start to decompose.
Root mass after a week from harvest was what I could expect from a standard run...and also the harvest was good, ended with half K clean, so it's not bad for exodus in 62 days exactly.

Basically I let them continue to live without doing nothing but observing and taking note.

I noticed when cloning in eazyplugs/rootriots it's good to have some free space around the plug to let roots exit from it and grow a little more. Could be useful sometimes.

oh boy a lot of lovely genetics coming up.

subbed up!

Hope it will worth the time and work...fingers crossed!

Here most of the seeds already sprouted

picture.php

Due to being a little old Mango Widow took more time to germinate and some remaining seeds will probably not germinate this time (I let the un-germinated dry up and store again for the next run).

Other than that, two SecretCookies x KushMints #11 out of 6 still don't germinate so maybe they will be stored back too.

Starting with 220W fluo 24/7 for the first week/10 days to prevent massive stretch. I would have used a LED lamp to prevent stretching but I actually don't have one, so patience, I'll correct elongation in next transplant.
