UsualS - Your plant looks dope but it looks like GDP to me my friend. I have grown most of the Cali purples cuts and your is dead on for the GDP cut I have. Looks like the Royal IMHO. Whatever it is it is pretty and obviously grown well. Peace!

i was thinking it was more purple then my GDP actually, this could be the dif from fertilizer though. i just suspected them to be similer but grape ape to be more purple, im learning their flowering times are comparable leaning toward grap ape finishing sooner? for full medical quality we take GDP 8-9weeks

so far im not that impressed with grape ape.. i like the bud, just not the way it grows. its slow at vegging, and isnt vigorous like the other strains I have.. right now im running kyle kushmans ga beside 14 other strains, most of which are cali clone onlys like pure kush, bubba, etc.etc. and its the weakest looking.
im of course going to run it again in the future just to make sure, but so far every other strain is slaughtering it in every category.

usual suspect that grape ape looks dope, you know where in cali they keep this regularly or do I gotta know the right peeps?

Thanks much appreciated, but I dont live in Cali although I did obtain it by way of NorCal from Santa.

Rainman- You may be correct, one can never be %100 sure but I was told it was Grape Ape by a very reliable source from which I received it and he hasnt been wrong yet as far as I know. I know a few others that run GDP and to me they are not the same. If anything flavor wise she is really leaning towards the Urkle end of the spectrum. But hey that is just my 2 cents.

Got some more pics to throw up in a bit, I have been on IC off and on for a while under PhillyPride and Mr. Karma. Not paranoid just keep losing my email account info lol.

Love the info and Opinions even if I dont agree %72 of the time

I just read this whole thread and I am surprised that no one mentioned Soma's Lavender!

Back in 2002, I was gifted a Lavender plant. The guy that gave it to me relayed this info during a long smoking session:

Lavender is the true parent to all the purples being discussed. Someone here in Mendo took Soma's Lavender and crossed it with a special PHENOMINAL skunk#1.

Purple Urkle
Grape Ape
Mendo Purps
Grandaddy Purple
Purple Cream....

are all just phenotypes of the original Lav x Sk1 cross.

.

well i thought i had heard it all.........cmon please do some research before posting info like this

Having grown GDP, Urkle, Purple Kush, Mendo Purps, and Grape Ape, I think that they are all genetically quite similar yet are all distinct cuttings. As to whether the different cuttings are different phenotypes of the same cross, different crosses, or a combination of both, I would have to guess a combination of both.

Think about it, we all know there are different phenotypes of the GDP cut. Otherwise, why would there be people on here looking for cuttings of "Ken's" GDP? isn't the ken cut different than Harborside's and the cuts at good karma? I know that these sources could offer clones from completely different genetics and just label them GDP 'cause it's popular, but I would argue that there are too many people offering different phenos of the GDP cut for them all to be full of shit. I really doubt that the genetic differences between these cuts is due entirely to environmentally caused genetic drift of isolated clone populations.

So it's common knowledge that there are different phenos of GDP, and GDP is somehow related, IMAO and in the opinion of many others, to urkle, pk, mendo, ape. That would make at least six or seven different distinct phenotypes. You can't realistically argue that everything came from the same F1 cross of stable, quality parents (sk #1, bigbud, what have you) even if you're "legendary" like Apothecary. It's scary to think that people buy into the claims made by certain individuals in the big book of buds.

Maybe the folks at apothecary are pissed that their cross is the dog of the bunch? So, because they seem to have the cash to promote themselves on an international level, they present themselves as the "originators" of the Cali Purps rather than admitting the truth, that they hold a piece of a genetic puzzle that no one person or organization is responsible for or has the right to claim as their own.

No offence to Apothecary intended; I don't know much about them beyond what's published on here and in print.
Just another crazy conspiracy theorist

I've heard some people say Urkle was the building block for GDP and Grape Ape. Purps and Lavender to me seem to be entirely different than Urkle though.

Looks great...how much weight are you pulling off those ladies?

2 Ounces per plant on some slightly more, truly not a heavy yielder but when everything is perfect i can get 2.5-3 ounces per.

Digital Hippy can you post some pics of this Grape Ape you speak of?

I grow, and smoke grape ape, I have had my strain for over a year now, it's my current favorite strain, for many reasons.

PICT01522.jpg

I have NO idea on the lineage, or whats in the crosses, but it grows FAST: 14-30 days veg, it ripens FAST: finishes in 45-55, so from cuts to harvest in under 60 days,.... the branches spread about like a kush, but no where near as tightly branched as GDP, so I can fit 9 in my 5X4 space in 5 gal buckets. It clones EASY, I have yet to lose a cutting (probably taken over 150 at this point)

the dried buds are tight about like erkle, but much larger, it smokes about like mango, or the "fruity" predominant indica hybrids (pineapple, blueberry etc,...) it has a definite "grape jam/syrup" taste when smoked, but the fragrance is straight indica, with some skunky background,..... the high is quite nice, very "indica body", but with a nice head almost like a kush,......now if you let the flowers go out to 65-70 days it'll put you RIGHT TO SLEEP, once fully cured.

For the record, I also have a GREAT GDP pheno, and grape ape is NOT AS STRONG A HIGH AS GDP (imo), let's put that myth to rest right now,...to me GDP is just CRIPPLING in intensity, and the grape ape, although it's my current favorite, just isn't as strong, and the high doesn't last as long as GDP.

I'll probably keep this around for years, it's just amazing

:smokeit:

and DAYUM! usualsuspect,...those are beautiful,.............fantastic work!

I'll post pix of mine here in about 42 more days (bet they still don't look as nice as yours tho)

They look straight out of the cannabible 3.

Does anyone know any reputable online retailer that stocks Apothecary's Grandaddy Grape Ape? I havent found a single retailer that carries Apothecary. Also is this the same strain as the grape ape just shortend? Because the name in BBB3 states gandaddy grape ape. Thnx

just got a clone. I grew it and shared and lost it, and it came back. she is the best tasting purple period.

It's a true California strain developed by Eddy Lepp. Grape Ape is the original and Purple Urkle is a pheno of the Grape Ape. Ken Estes crossed grape Ape with Salmon Creek Big Bud and developed Gran Daddy Purple. They are all closely related 'cousins' and run true to their indica roots barely reaching 3 feet tall in most cases. Stretch is minimal and all are characterized by a fine grape taste. Growth is slow in veg and although the clones are available they are always in limited supply. GDP has the potential to yield the highest but all require an extended veg time.

all is hear say but i trust eddy's farm worker, i mean after all the dea did brake his wrist when they handcuffed him.
when i was gifted my GA i all so got kksc, jack herrer, tnt & cherry pez. if i had to guess i would say KKPK X TNT
