Sweet! Glad this thread is back up. This is a good chance for us to brain storm on some security ideas with you OB.
Here's my latest stoned idea: How about a small GPS unit for each plant? I don't know how small they make them, but it might help catch a ripper or two if they don't find the transponder soon enough.
Here's another idea: Buried fishing line tied to each plant which is tied to a loud horn. As soon as the line is pulled, the horn blasts like crazy.

Bra I agree with defending yourself and your family this I understand and you live in the US which is different everyone seems to have guns.. I really do understand where you are coming from so try and step outside the box for one second here.. We are talking about your grow... Do you really want to take a life over your grow? There are plenty of non-lethal ways to protect your self and your property that don't involve booby traps. Alarms are THE best deterrent, in my/our experience. Period. Annoying, unusual, LOUD-ASS alarms. First one my husband rigged up was a car battery hooked up to an old motorcycle horn with a trip wire. It worked, like a rented mule, like a charm, it worked.
People need to get it through their thick skulls, He doesn't want to kill any one over a fucking plant. It is a whole different story when some one comes on your property and feels that they can just take what they want. When will it stop, first plants out the yard, next car out the driveway, then motorcycle and tools out the garage, they will probably get bored with staying outside the house and start trying to get your shit in the house. So at what point, do you start throwing hollow points at them? "Don't take shit, it's totally worth killing you to keep my peace of mind and safety."
So then you kill them an its known. I will not end there.....a brother, uncle or relative will want revenge an now they have your name through the report an you now just opened up a can of worms. I dont think anyone that says kill them has ever killed anyone! Period! If you really knew how it felt to take a life you wouldnt be saying this. Are you ready to go to court an look at his kids or wife an say ya I killed him an he deserves it......No! Life is to precious to extinguish no matter what.

Hey I know Im prolyl not wanted back in this thread,but I jsut wanted to share what I wrote on an old burglary thread..it mighth help people,seeing as this is turning into a "catch a ripper" thread..it's not for guerrila or outdoors..but its for indoor ops...I hope it can help somebody..sorry for ruining your thread OB..my advise WAS sincere..I dont even invite people to my home anymore,because something always goes missing..

Look man...to protect yourself from a burglar..you gotta BE the burglar..you gotta think like them..smell like them..talk like them...BE THEM....
First things first..WINDOWS..every single one..even the top bathroom one...windows are the first weakhole..and the first attempt a burglar will make..start by installing BARS..on every single window....THEN,screw and nail shut big ass plywoods on EVERY window...you can first put up some curtains so your house looks normal..then the plywood..this helps in all areas..lighth leaks..NOISE..smell..it just adds a second thick layer between your grow and the outside world....so remember..first bars..curtains..then plywood..
next we move on to the DOORS..especially the backyard hidden ones...if a thieve wants in..that bastard will even kick your shit down...theyr like zombies...if your big money ballin..install a second,iron bar door...expensive..but very worth it...use heavy duty bolt locks on every lock...bolt locks are much better and safer ...if you can..screw in a big ass plywood on the doors you WONT use.....
second....a dog if you LIVE there...period..nobody wants to get fucked up by a mean ass growling rabid beast lol....if not..then install floodlighths..set them on timers to come on at nighth...illuminate "hidden spots"....backyards...sideyard s....

Heres a pic of one of my wireless sensors from Ebay Shed/Stable/Driveway Motion sensor .
6v indoor receiver & the motion sensor is cammoed + the ice cream tub keeps rainwater off & also helps prevent false readings from strong sunlight . This unit saved my entire years bud once but the only mistake i made was to leave the LED uncovered , it let the rippers know they`d triggered an alarm & they buggered off without finding the plants . Me the AB & a very sharp Border fork were 15seconds behind them .
Another very good & cheap alarm is a 12g Blank Alarm Gun , just a simple spring triggered metal bracket & trip wire that will let the whole street know the rippers are around .

I get what you are saying, and like I said in my rep point, I am starting to see your side of things.
However, where does this logic stop? Everybody in the world that grows is at risk of getting jacked. Now that degree can vary, but we all know that people have died over pot. So does that mean we all are growing, knowing we can get killed at any time? I guess we should just all take down our grows right? The entire planted should go dry.

OB, you might want to look into the laws surrounding CCW permits - not that you are after one, but the laws concerning lethal force are probably spelled out most clearly there. Basically, you would have no justification legally in using lethal force unless you were facing overwhelming odds because of numbers, age or size disparity; were unable to retreat out of the situation; and in fear of your life or other's lives. Additionally, the one thing that every CCW class that I have ever seen stresses repeatedly is that, even if you are found to be in the right, your life will change irrevocably.

i think we have to separate the situations, if you are threatened in your house or stopping some one breaking in, it's one thing. if on the other hand the rippers are in your garden chopping down plants, it's another situation all together. as long as they are in your garden fucking with your plants, you better not use lethal force, else you'll be going to prison for a long time. if they are trying to get in the house with you there, only then can you talk about self defense imo.
