Growers that are looking for the strongest raw potency in Malawi and Golden Tiger usually fully mature their plants, and then let them overmature a bit more for 7-14 days more to increase the resin production even more. Then the finished product can be really scary in strenght, deepness and duration.
Dubi: THANKS for all your advice on this forum!
It would be helpful to me if you could define (further explain or give examples) of a couple of these terms:
What would you consider "fully mature" and how can that be determined with GT or Malawi?
"Overmature" What would the plant/leaves/Trichs look like at the end of this over maturation period? Does the following suggestion agree with your opinion?
Thanks!
One might consider to wait untill the plant completely has "consumed itself". By this I mean 'till the plant has dropped all her leaves.

Fully mature/over mature, when the resin changes from clear diamond sparklyness to a more golden titanium colour, visible from a meter away, no need for magnification... Imo

Holeshot, What were you using for lights? You may have stated I only read last few pages. My other question is why do you transplant so many times and risk stressing the plant through root damage? I see this a lot on several threads. I start mine from seed in 7 or 10 gallon bags and leave them alone. I guess I'm afraid I will screw it up if I handle them more than once. Hope your cure turns out great for you! Would like to read another smoke report. Peace

Hey farmer! I am lucky that I can veg all my plants outdoors, even through winter. They come in doors of a night and put near my cloning light so they get some light through the night. All seedlings ! Once sprouted go into 150ml cups of coco and perlite . Clones are rooted in jiffy pots and then 150ml cups. Once well rooted they are then into 500ml cups, 7" pots and finally into 10" pots , some may end up in 12" pots if they have been waiting too long to go into flower room. The plants become a lot stronger and bushier if potted up a few times, roots are better developed. I don't let them get root bound, but they have almost consumed the pot with roots. I am not gentle with them at all!!I rip or cut the bottom 1" or 2 off the bottom and rough up and break the side roots so they spread. I can honestly say that I have never lost or stressed a plant while doing this. The only plants I have ever lost is at cloning. In the flower room they are under 600w HPS . The plant in veg above will flower outside , as I have a backlog of plants waiting to go inside.I like to put the ones that are just finished and have been flushed outside in the sun for a few days to get some natural sun, then into dark for another day or so until chopped. I find that they really resin up a lot in those few days .Let them dry right out aswell.

My Golden Tiger is still curing, but it smells like Peanut Butter? Makes you want to go get the jelly and make a sandwich.

Thanks Holeshot
Mine may have been a little root bound. I have a very inconsistent job. I can be rolling along at 60 hr weeks . Then BAM! be buried in a couple 80 to 100 hr weeks out of nowhere. I have to plan ahead for some neglecting of the girls. Thanks for explanation. I'm glad it works for you. Peace

Any other opinions of when to harvest GT or Malawi?

Shortly after starting to smoke the GT you may well find yourself right out of peanut butter, jelly and, well, pretty much anything edible within a 100m radius.

Like a lot of potent Sativa some, after 4+ hours high as a kite, you can get massive humungus munchie obsessions

What is that smell from the GT? I've never smelled weed like that before. Strange Peanut Butter kind of smell....or something else....Maybe Carrots is the smell? don't know...

I've been vaping the GT with a few weeks cure. I pulled a little early, and I like where it is. Easy to throttle the HI with the Vape. Does not take much to BLAST OFF!!! Definitely a keeper!!! I have the early Malawi phenol, and I like the HI. Its clear, energetic, introspective, no anxiety...but it makes me feel supercharged!!! Good weed for working out!!! Also HORNY weed!!!...I think I have found what I have been looking for in the Golden Tiger!!!! Next time I will take it down when it is more ripe and compare to the early take down!!

ACE is the PLACE!!

After growing for 6 years, I finally caught the sativa bug...I have grown many hybrids of sativa, but prob the most sativa I have ever grown is stuff like blue dream. Got some Malawi from a fellow grower he grew, and was mind blowing. He recommended it and the panama from ace, so went ahead and got a 10 pack of panama regs and a 5 pack of malawi and got some freebie golden tiger. Will be posting pics as I go!

Hi rod58 they should start to show early March where you are, and they will finish around end of April or May. So there is no problem. Looks like a nice pheno you are going to get some good buds.

This is a very helpful and informative discussion. I have spent much time contemplating proper harvest and decided that I need to have much more experience and knowledge to truly refine the Art. Currently, my GT -probably the biggest plant I have EVER had the privilege to grow - is at 14+ weeks. (It's too big to move or I'd show pics...soon come.) I'll probably let her go a bit more.

With sativas, I query whether there is more opportunity to have a rich prism of early/late/mature/over-mature trichs - given that -at least with my pheno- she seems to still be cranking out new pistils, while the old have withered and turned a delicious and mellow brown. Seems to me that there are cloudy trichs and trichs that are just starting the journey. Don't see amber currently. In sum -and I may have my head up my butt- the much longer period allows for a much richer mix and a more complex effect.
