THE PABLOS

PABLOS, all I can do is suggest that you learn more about the science involved in determining ancient diets. It's not all guess work. There is good, hard science (strontium levels in teeth, for example) that demonstrates what primary diets were in ancient humans and their predecessors.

I'm not trying to convince you to eat animal-based sources of protein, I am pointing out that it's not the sole cause of heart disease as you're claiming, and that plant-based foods can indeed be, are indeed, often quite closely associated with disease.

If you went further, you'd see that the Greeks ate much the same types of meats, with about the same frequency. Same with eggs, and certainly more cheese. In fact, the Greeks eat far more meat than the Japanese, according to the study on which this paper is based. That's the rub, that's what was so unexpected, and that's what should be known.

Furthermore, more and more studies are coming out that are showing that organically raised, pastured or wild-foraged animal proteins may actually be just as beneficial as all that plant matter (which right now I insist on qualifying as vegetable matter).

I have a good friend who is vegan. She looks as though she's dying. I totally understand her reasons and reasoning for not eating any animal products, but if she wants to gain weight, and she does, she's going to have a hard time doing it vegan. And she has had a hard time doing it vegan, even eating all the nuts and fat-rich plants she's been eating. I've suggested that she try using some of my mother's recipes for fortified foods (she has recipes developed for different illnesses, allergies, and weight issues, extreme low weight being one of them, so she has lots of recipes for 'fortified' or calorie-dense foods), unfortunately, the way to gaining weight is to include animal-based food sources in the diet.

Had another young friend who was the same way, early 20s, rail thin and low energy levels. Another friend of his convinced him to just eat a fucking steak. Guess what started happening. Muscle mass began building up.

I don't have a huge sphere of influence, but the world should be eating more bugs, IMO.

Now wait...I'm not claiming animal protein is the sole cause of heart disease. Never said that there is no illnesses that come from plants. I am simply saying...there is shit in every animal protein form...that leads to cancer and heart disease. Animal protein has an abundance of negative effects...and they put it in a lot of stuff.

One thing I've learned about the findings of science: it's subject to change. Still..it's a moot point...concerning the world we live in now...the now...today. Because some humanoid way back when..survived on say: only meat....has no bearing on what I need to eat now. It's like people have to see themselves coming from some wild meat eating king of the jungle. It doesn't matter now.

As many studies as you show me...you will find a counter study showing the ill gains of farmed animal proteins. Maybe it depends on who's financing the study? I don't know. Ever read The Food Revolution? Forks Over Knives? The China Study?...simple/popular books which point to study and science.

The truth is...some people are sickly. Some people go into radical diet without proper conditioning...proper knowledge...proper will. They do it for the wrong reasons...at the wrong times. Not every diet if for every person. I live healthy on a plant based diet..some other people may live healthy on processed food...booze..dope..and cigarettes. Maybe it's a PH thing

to me...it's more a transition. my running discipline has led me here...my gardening discipline has brought me here. I never had plans for this to happen. I'm following my gut. It makes me see things differently. It was like a light went on.

not preaching....sharing my experience. That's the thing too...food is a necessary experience. You can't say one way or the other unless you yourself...experience the diets. The pudding

I think we actually agree that CAFO methods for animals is no good and we don't want to consume them. I think we also agree that organically produced plant matter (again, primarily vegetable matter for me) is better as the foundation of one's diet, rather than grains being the foundation, or meats being the foundation.

We also agree 100% not every diet for every person.

I haven't been able to eat much red meat at all for the past few years, I seem to get a GERD response. Same with high fat foods, and black pepper. These are all foods that never caused me a single problem before menopause. Afterward? Not so much, I've had to really restrict my diet and have become mostly vegetarian, consuming little meat (only a few times/week and in very small amounts) and more vegetable matter, simply because it feels more comfortable. Considering my BMI, I'll probably be just fine if I went purely vegan. But I wouldn't assume others might fare as well, and I like to have animal proteins occasionally.

So... I think we actually agree on quite a bit here. :)

What were you going to say about pudding...? I call Dave The Puddin' Man, because he loves pudding.

You have issues with eating one food and your kid doesn't? One of your kids is fat, no matter what they try, and the rest of your kids are thin?
You and your spouse eat the same food but one of you is heavy and the other thin? Vastly different energy levels?

Wheat is only a small part of the issue.

I'm not very good at explaining this stuff, fortunately the wife ran across some very detailed videos the other day.

Explains things in ways I just am not capable. Makes a WHOLE lot of sense when you put it all together.
