That durban is looking great highlighter! I am truely looking forward to watching you finish these strains out and wishing you the best with mother nature and everything she throws your way. Keep up the great work and i will be back around to check in on the gals
Hey Herbalistic, good to see you, enjoy the NH!
The strongest high I've ever had!
urban, thx for posting those durban's! Hope you meet with equal success this yr! BH, can you believe it, another purple Durban!?!
Hi star crash! Well, I can't compete w/ that! Is that the Mako Haze?
Checked in @ plot #1 today, things are looking good. The sickly Congo's are looking better, darker in color up top.
The Power Malawi's are the biggest here, just shy of 6 ft. They seem to be in real pre-flowering mode, branches stretching, leaves getting smaller.
Here's the two of them, one forground, one background.
The Nigerian "creeper" had been freshly nibbled. Don't like to see leaves not eaten, makes me think they're looking for moisture. Going to have to take some preventative measures.
The Early Durban is the most exciting one to see here right now. Today was the 1st sign of visible trichs!
Today I resumed my water runs. We had unsettled weather in the region lately, but I only ended up getting just under an inch of rain, while everyone else got considerably more. Often the rain dissipates as it nears the ocean.
I foliar fed w/ the Terracycle today as well.
I was dismayed to see more nibbling done on the creeper Nigerian. Shaved some soap around her. Maybe spray some Hinder on her in a few days if it keeps up.
Over @ plot #2, I noticed alot of insect damage. Mostly Leaf Hoppers, but I picked a couple of inch worms off the Cantarela. I discovered this leaf whorl on the Cantarela:
Hey Paddi, here's the Early Durban @ plot #2
A shot of the congestion @ plot #2
Couple of shots of the Nigerian IBL there. I see long, skinny colas in my future!
Here's my favorite Congo. So glad I left one untopped, I love the form. Didn't have the heart to bend her away from the Nigerian and mess w/ that form.
Sorry for the not-so-great shots, too early for the good light. Have a great weekend, all!
I haven't had the time to read the whole thread, but looks like maybe someone can help me I.D. this plant. My caregiver got a package from Africa, and African is all it said on it.Outta 3 seeds, one survived. It is a fast plant.Caregiver takes it at 42 days, immature, but gets you wired. Some people spin out on it.The last run, it was done at 52 days.It looks and grows like a cross. The closest we've got is maybe it's a Durban.Excellant smoke and taste.Easy to grow and very stable.Any ideas would be appreciated.
Hi El Loco Smoko, it surely looks nice! I'm no expert by any means, but I'd venture to say it's a Durban X Afghani cross. Those bud leaves just say "afghani" to me!
Maybe also post in Herbalistic's "Africa strains" thread that's linked in here somewhere. (or do a search w/ "africa" in it, you'll find it :wink
As always dubi, a pleasure! These plants would be massive if I could give them all the water they could stand, but I'm happy w/ what I have. The 2 Congo's @ plot #2 as well as the Cantarela are @ the six ft. mark, w/ the Angola X Banghi coming just under that.
Peace, HL
I'd think it is a cross also, but couldn't figure why anyone would make a cross 40 years ago with an indica..That didn't make sense, with the bag just saying African on it, maybe.Who knows, but the guy who sent em, and he's dead. What ever it is, it's a keeper.I think it'd be great for crossing. It's absolutley stable. All sisters.Never had a hermie.
As it was talked about in that other thread, there's a large Indian population in south africa, as well as transplanted muslims. SA is such a natural stopping off point for seafarers, it's almost certain genetics from the far & near east have made it there. All speculation, but sound logic.
Whatever it is, glad it's found a home!
Nice curling on that cantarela highlighter, if im honest I think all of your plants look healthy & vigorous. As I say before, you are more than welcome to taste it if you ever found yourself in Finland!
BH: In pretty satisfied with the yield, that plant should offer some good sativa smoke for awhile, but there is coming one monsterous OH x SK#1 after three weeks and one monster NH after about 2 months, so im going to enjoy of these lovely strains awhile!
El Loco Smoko: I would also think it has some Durban genetics in it, but like highlighter suggested, you can try my African Strains -thread, if it reaches more experts in this subject. However, I doubt it will because this thread has seen some of the finest African lovers. And after all, it´s just speculation, but like HL said S.A has large Indian immigrants population, so...
nice highlighter very very well grown. Looks like you are pumping your ladies up with some good shit already huh? That durban looks wicked, do you only have early durban? Whats up with durban poison? Any affiliation? I had some durban once, and it smelled outrageous!!!! Like trainwreck, just like it, does your durban smell like that or do you know? Just curious cuz man that shit really smelled BOMB!!! peace bro
EDIT-Yea I smoked a little yesterday, I'd say I was taking about a half a point of bud and smoking it in three hits outta a bong. haha. Little hits
Yeah, I just got the Early Durban going, Early Girl X Durban Poison. Reg Durban is famous for it's anise/licorice taste.
A few light showers today, but I still fed the plants @ plot #1. Fish fert plus a one time shot of liquid humus. Plot #2 will get the same treatment tomorrow.
The rabbit or skunk continues to nibble on the small, succulent branches, moving from the Nigerian to one of the Congo's and Power Malawi's. I brought back some old caging, enough to do the Congo & PM, as well as the Early Durban. Used deer fencing on the Nigerian.
I'm surprised the varmints haven't touched the Nigerian Nightmare's, as they're both tied down close to the ground. Check them out:
I also tied down the four main branches to Congo #1 today. Check it out!
Very impressive highlighter, i could sure learn alot from you as this is my first year growing outdoors in the ground. Is that air layering in the first pic and if it is whats the processs if you dont mind me asking? I plant to go stake down a few with coat hangers they are 5 ft tall and topped 3 times already. I hope i can bend them that far without breakage or splitting. well, cheers to an excellent season brother!
btw- the african theme is a cool idea, i need to learn the basics and find what works well in my region, somehow i forgot that step and tossed a bunch of strains outdoor that might not do so hot. But hey- we live and we learn.
Hey RevolutionX, thx for the praise! If you have 5'ers, you must be doing something right! Every yr. is a learning yr, trying new things, making refinements.
That 1st shot is showing the most recent varmint damage on the Nigerian 'creeper'. They top off a young branch and it seems like they suck out what sap they can get from the actual plant. They discard the bitten off piece, I just laid it back up for affect.
Cannabis roots so easily, don't think there's any need for 'air layering', but this is the plant I buried branches in the hopes of furthering root mass.
Maybe try a stink jug? I put a one gallon jug of pee smack dead in the middle of my plot. I put holes in the cap using a dart. I puntured the cap from the underneath to get a volcano effect and not let as much rain in to dilute it. It ferments and stinks to hell for 2 or 3 weeks and it works to keep the critters away. Only problem i have is insects but not so many, only some weird fuzzy white fly thing that leaves white crap on the stem..oh and i also use mothballs and soap so im not sure what exactly keeps them away.
