How does that work? Because you're right it is a bit pricey.

Collect willow twigs, trimming the leaves, immersing the stems in a pail of water, and pouring the water on newly planted trees, shrubs, and bedding plants. Commercial rooting preparations contain a synthetic form of indolebutyric acid (IBA) and growing tips of willows contain high concentrations of IBA, depending on the quantity used and length of time you soak them. Any willow (Salix) tree or shrub species will work.
A great way to make your own rooting or plant tonic for cuttings, transplants, houseplants, vegetable plants, herbs, whatever you want to grow healthy strong roots. The salicylic acid encourages rooting and triggers natural defenses against bacteria, fungi and viruses.

Don't know and tbh got to admire your spunk for starting such a thread, I have similar questions and people say "do a search" when I do not have the time, you seem to be achieving actual results. Sorry I don't have more to offer but at least you seem to have the gift of gab more than me! ;)

All good info guys, I am starting some Dutch Passion AutoEuforia any day now and will do so in Fox Farm Ocean soil. Do I need to add some perlite to the potting soil?

I don't want to jinx myself but I am batting 1000 when it comes to poppin seeds. Ive been growing for several years now and this is all I do... I buy premium seeds (usually feminized) put my soil in a small 2" plastic flower starter pot with holes in the bottom. I soak the soil with 6.5 ph'd filtered water till there is no more drainage I poke my finger into the first knuckle then drop the seed in and I loosely cover the seed with soil. I set the pots on a seed starting heating blanket and I put em under my T-5's room temp is 80 and I keep the soil moist around where I planted it with a few drips of the same ph'd water daily and wait for the magic!!! Just be careful not to over water. I don't use any nutes at all until the plant is rooted and growing and remove the heating blanket as soon as the plant is above soil....

Well, If you read this thread it's pretty easy to understand. The OP was looking for some new suggestions he may not have already known about.

if you can't do that, using far too much perlite will do the explosive growth thingy. roots bam.

just a suggestion but you might want to start them in a less "hot" soil, . . . FFOF has a lot of stuff in it and has been known to burn seedlings. personally i plant in Fox Farms Light Warrior, then xplant to Ocean Forest after they're rootbound. Or you can just buy some basic miracle gro or whatever at your local garden store, but def don't give them FFOF until they're old enough to handle it, i think almost anybody would advise against that.

and yes, you should add some perlite, to both your seedling mix and your FFOF mix. generally people suggest around 1/3 or 1/4 perlite mixed with soil if that's your only aeration amendment, i personally have gotten better results with almost half perlite, half FFOF. and same with seedling starting mix: half perlite, half FFLW. Don't be thrown off by the fact that FFOF has a bit of perlite in it - it's not enough, you really do need to add more to aerate those roots. hope this helps.

Let em dry out in small pots to let the roots search.

Give it heat.

Diminish the light for the first two days as the first leaves feed on the energy stored in the seed and not sunlight. The leaves will get bigger. Then put on the big light.

I like to use a light airy mix for my seedlings. Promix has a real fine seedling mix I like. My main trick is to keep the soil warm using a seed starting mat. They're about 20$ from a gardening store.

light helps seeds germinate. i read that on icmag, some farmer or somethign posted it, works for me. it makes sense because when seeds drop from a plant they dont get buried, they stay above the soil and develop their taproot from water and sun

also if a seed isnt germinating in 2-3 days, just continue waiting and try giving them some light, it took me about 1 1/2 weeks for these 3 kc brain mango seeds to germ, and they're growing pretty fast now.

best way to grow in soil is to buy premixed soil with lime, or mix your own. that way all you do is water.
