there is a sticky in the design sub for figuring a more precise estimate but the general rule of thumb is 5k btu of ac per non aircooled 1k but being in a standalone building in americas cellar id go for overkill

So what is the recommended BTU for 1000w? I was just going to get the biggest ac i could get and fil the room with 3 1000w and 6 315w CMH..... how much do i need for that? thats all the lighting i would need for the whole room.......... for right now i would settle with cooling two Gavitas and two #15 cmh lights...... where is Rives when ya need him......

5K BTU per 1000 , but if ya ask me , thats overkill . Like i said , I was cooling 3600 with a 12K BTU window banger in an attic space during the summer . i had mega fans going to move the air around , but it never got over 80 in flower or veg . turn it off & i seen it hit 128 :yoinks:

yea... with the heat here i need some over kill..... Ill have to have a dehumidifier.... 80% rh and 109 temps in august its just relentless.... but i think ill go with the smaller one for now so i can continue to grow.... it can be used in my mother/Veg room after and will give me a good idea about what i really need....:tiphat::huggg:

12K is about the biggest you can go & still plug it into a reg outlet . anything higher & you'll need 220 volts .

& personally , i think portable AC is a waste of money !!! that 14K is about equivilant to an 8K on a GOOD day .plus unless you wrap the ducts in insulation it creates a ton of heat from the hoses !!! BTDT !

Listen to the man that helped you get where you are. Portables are shit. Save your money and do it right, just like your Gavita!

I still think you should go for the mini split, that seems to have the capacity and life down here to suit your needs.

I forgot who's thread had the advice, "Buy once, cry once." Seemed pretty good advice to me if you know where you're likely going to be with the use of your space in a year

See this is the perfect example of what i was talking about a couple of pages ago.... I didn't know about those things about portable AC units... But you did....... So that's out and ill save for a MiniSplit....Really a simple decision..... I might be able to swig the 24000 btu shortly..... and that should be plenty to seal the room up..... I can then grow into that room....:tiphat::):)

mini split>window>portable. the portables really are trash. i could give you a few examples myself. for what you want and where you are, mini split is your best option.

I can also add with some experience with portable AC's. WASTE OF MONEY. Room I used to run, guy had a 10,000 BTU portable. I swear the thing added more heat to the room than it took away. Even with insulation from ductwork on the hot air exhaust. Bout' the only thing it was good for was being a dehuey when the lights were off, lol.

Something wrong on your end. I see page 100.

weird, now I'm seeing this is page 51

so, I quick logged out. when I logged out it was page 101. log back in, page 51. I think I must be traveling through a worm hole in the universe during the log in process or something.
Aspen- sorry to go off topic, but it's strange to me
