The river near me is brackish and has everything from tarpon to largemouth bass. It's really hard to fish from the shore though, which is why I want a kayak. Right now I just drive the 45 minutes to the beach to surf fish. I've even seen other surf fisherman kayaking there baits out from the beach and they are able to target everything from king mackerel to blackfin tuna. I might be a little hesitant about launching a kayak in the surf though so ill probably just stick to the rivers.

Ya know what, even though I just got back a few days ago after reading the last few posts I booked the cabin again for the fourth of July. I love that place 600 bucks for 9 days in a private cabin with 200' of lakefront and the closest cabin is damn near 2 acres away. Plus they rent a 26' boston whaler for 150 extra. I hate the city, getting the hell outta here is my top priority.

Here's a couple of Chinook salmon I caught on the Sol Duc river in Washington state, when I lived there...

my tackle was my favorite 5500 Ambassador on a 7 foot Fenwick flippin stick with 17 lb. mono...and a live jumbo shrimp on a planer.

one was 27 lbs and the other 23 lbs. Helluva fight...

mmmm, mmmm, good eating!

Went out tonight. Didnt catch any bass but I did catch three big Blueback herring, about 16 inches each. I took them home intending to save them for chunk bait but I decided to fillet and bone two of them and now have them sitting in a stiff salt brine.
Gonna make some pickled herring. Yum.

Yeah I saw some pics of those red crabs washing ashore and wondered if they were stuffing the fish. We get fish fly/Mayfly hatches back here big time and when those happen the fishing goes south for a while.

well, the fishing was great, but the catching sucked. river has come up over a foot & the shoals we normally wear out the hybrids & smallmouth out at were nearly submerged, thus no longer balling up the threadfin shad & the predators that feed on them. got pics of osprey on nest & a big-ass beaver that swam right by me though...:tiphat:

yes!! pond and lake fisherman on average.. been out for croaker, went out and caught some mackerel once, pier fishing several times caught some pompano, and spade. but normally im the guy that catches the crab that lets go about a foot before the you actually get him on the pier.. smh love a baked trip though, infused a smoothie before the croaker trip great fun was had that and nobody was the wiser about the end result.. I think I out fished my dad?

Wow. Im surprised no one has posted in this thread for such a long time.
Anyhow. I got baked and went fishin' last night. It was windy but I managed a couple bluefish on a Gibbs pencil popper.
