i have read of exactly one child that underwent reassignment surgery. he had suffered a horrific accident when he was circumcised as a baby. both doctors and parents thought he would fare better as a "girl" since he had no "boy" left. in retrospect, the kindest thing to do might have been something horrible to contemplate...the child eventually took that path on its own. puberty is rough enough without being confused as to which team you are on, and not fitting into either side.
