Sept day 14.jpg

I'm doing a side by side SCROG with 2 Gavita Pro 1000DE's on the left & 3 Raptor/Hortilux/mag ballasts on the right. I agree it's not really a fair comparison. With 3 Raptors on the left replaced by 2 Gavitas my room is running a few degrees cooler. Raptors 24" above canopy & Gavitas are 36" up. Each side is covering a 4'x12' area. This is day 14 of 12/12. You can see the difference in color over the canopy. This picture was taken through the lens of my Method 7 glasses so the color it pretty real. So far I can't tell who's winning.

so I'm back! pfff.. two trade shows and a lot of support and email later I am catching up with the fora.

I am not sure which questions are relevant to answer anymore, so if I missed one please post them again.

As for the Gavita controller and the new DigiStars: They are planned to arrive soon, but it will take a bit of time to distribute them to all the countries and get them into the shops.

For those who have not seen our demo at the trade show I attached the master controller preliminary brochure.

The DigiStars will be the first e-series ballasts suitable for the controller, together with the new LEP270 (different housing, we moved to 270 from 300 to reflect the better efficiency of the new fixture), at the end of the year the new pro-line e-series will follow.

Again, if you have any specific Gavita support questions use the Gavita support at our website, it is impossible for us to give support in so many fora. I'm doing the best I can fellas, but time is limited!

@soghog: I see you have a wall next to your crop on the right and none on the left. This will influence the light on your left side, you are going to be missing out on a lot of light there. You will have some overlapping influence on the two sides from both lights but if you are able to come close to the 3x raptors on the right I would be pretty proud :)

In numbers: I expect the raptors to output about 1550 - 1630 umol with the Hortilux, the Gavita fixtures would do 2000 umol at 1000W. So you would be looking at about 5000 umol from the raptors against 4000 umol from the Gavitas. I would still expect the Raptor side to give you a bit more (about 15-25% more in my calculation), also because you have a reflecting wall there that bounces some light back to the crop. But that goes at an extra cost of 1090W of course, 50% more.

I would recommend to hang a reflective foil on the Gavita side next to your crop. It only has to be about 2-3 ft high.

Hey Wazzup can you shed some light on the difference between the 600w t15 and the 600w t40...

Why is the 600w t40 so damn expensive.. only one place to get it online, a subsidiary of sears:

i'm planning a room around the Pro 1000 DE. i'll be adding a duplicate of it a few months after i'm looking to set up a licensed medical grow in industrial space so should have nice tall ceilings. i'll be setting up the same for my wife when she gets licensed.

in my state a caregiver can have a max of 5 patients plus themselves, and a max of 6 flowering plants per patient so each room will be limited to 36 plants. one room vegging, one flowering at all times. with the plant limitation i was thinking i would veg a bit longer to increase plant size/yield, giving 4 sq feet (1.2192 sq meters) per plant.

ultimately i'd like to add the LEP's using the STA 75 emitter hopefully out early next year. i was thinking of starting with 6 1000 DE's and adding 4 LEP's when available. what 36 decent sized plant configuration would you recommend with how many 1000 DE's keeping in mind i would like to add the LEP's. i came up with this very basic square, but am very open to any more efficient dimensions.

Thanks Wazzup. I'm sure you're slammed. Especially with the Maximum Yield show in Long Beach happening in a couple weeks. Adding a false wall was also what your support guy Theo said. I understand and half way through the above run I do see the difference from not having a reflective surface on the Gavita side. But still trying to figure out how to install a reflective wall AND have fans covering the canopy. Has anyone done this?

Hey rikki, for that kind of area you gonna need 9x 1000w, not 6. When planning your room dont matter how many plants you gonna have there, but the right coverage.

yeah, after i posted i found wazz's spacing guidelines. was giving the plant count because i have the option to alter the dimensions, so if he has a better set up i'm very open to it.

having some issues with plants under my gavitas ... in veg room with 1k mh plants look great as soon as i put plants into the room with the gavitas the plants get yellow and sick looking within a couple days , if i remove the plants and put them back in the mother room under 1k mh the plants come right back green and healthy ..
do i need to increase my feed going from 1k mh veg to gavita 1000de in bloom ?
if so has anyone established and amount of increase of ppm to keep plants happy under these lights?

I would keep feeding my plants veg food for up to 2 or 3 weeks after moving them to the flower room. It seems to help a lot during this stretch period. Actually the first couple of weeks during 12/12 under MH is when I get the best "transition"

I had a similar problem last time, this time I gave veg food 2-3 weeks after 12/12 and kept the light a bit higher and slowly lowered it over a week or so. I veg under a 400wmh and I don't think they liked the sudden increase in light, and change in food all at the same time. Any how things look great this time. how high up are your lights? at 1150W I need mine at 3 feet. Good luck

i am vegging in the bloom area with the same feed and the lights are at 1000watt they are about 40"s from the tops of the plants ..

remember that a 1000W MH has about 50-60% of the output of a 1000W DE lamp. So the intensity is doubled! Always start at a lower wattage and grow towards the 1000W in about a week or so, depending on the reaction of the plants. Make sure the roots are well developed, they will need to cool a lot more than under the MH because they get a much higher intensity light. That is what causing the plants to go into shock ;)

By the way, though the intensity doubles, the DLI doesn't. To prevent shooting you can also reduce the hours a step at a time while starting at the lowest level HPS (same light levels as the MH) and increase this over a period of time.

Most important: keep distance between the reflector and the plants, in flowering when the vegging plants are established at least 3 ft.

hey wazzup, i've been trying to communicate with theo via email and i think he must be particularly busy as i'm not having much luck getting a reply.

is there a better contact i can get room dimension and light placement recommendations built around the 1000w DE? i'm thinking the 9 lamps would be optimal, but not 100% what the optimal room dimensions and lamp placement would be within the ranges you posted.

or if you already have optimal room dimensions and lamp placement info for a 9 lamp sealed room using orca grow film and 4 meter ceilings it would be much appreciated.
