Not only are oil execs getting rich beyond even their wildest dreams, we're giving them all the money we might otherwise invest in alternative energy.

These guys complain about ineffective government, then laugh about making out like bandits.

I commute 70 miles one way...Ours went up from 3.29 to 3.69 today. Kia gets good mileage, but at $4/gal...OUCH! May have to get a job for half the money down the street and end up with more in my pocket at the end of the week. And we still export more finished product than we sell here in this country. I hate Gov't control, so I WON'T ask for it. All we can do is continue to conserve as much as possible. Be nice if the jackass in D.C. would let drilling happen.
Oh, and remember, Washington gets more money per gallon than Big Oil does. That Excise Tax on fuel is feeding our gargantuan Gov't....so they AIN'T gonna help anyway

..the sooner we can develop and patent the real technologies that will transition us into the future the better, and the only way that is going to happen is if
gas prices become transparent, and increase thru the roof...

Only if it was just that simple. It goes far beyond what we put in our cars, there is 7 gallons of crude in every car tire, and oil makes up everything from plastic to fertilizer to road pavement. We basically have to reinvent society and the way we make everything. Increased price on oil means increased price on everything that has to be made or transported.

I'd even go as far to say you cant make solar panels without oil.

We are on the downward slope of world oil supply and we're living on borrowed time, better get crackin.

I like the idea of conservation. I hear we waste as much as 40% of our energy in exhaust and inefficiency. I hear Kia's are tight automobiles. Can't beat the manufacturer warranties.

I read that maxing our domestic capacity would shave 3 cents off the retail price of gas. That's no personal endorsement as I don't know the statistics. The short and curly analysis is our domestic capacity pales to consumption.

On the bright side, every little bit helps in the oil world. And Obama is reported to be allowing more production that W at the expense of presiding over our worst oil disaster.

I think a law passed that mandates all gas taxes go to highways. Not sure how that one's working out. Come to think of it, most roads in my area are in pretty decent shape. I know that's not the case in general.

This is not inflation. /sarc This is just "transitory." - Ben Bernanke

War and monetary debasement make for hellacious inflation.

$2tril++ of excessive fiat liquidity slushing around in the system and trying to inflate away debt is going to transfer some wealth.

Pelosi is already blaming the "evil speculators". Conveniently looks past the monetary enablers of inflation.

Feed a crackhead enough free crack and the end result is usually poor.

Well stated, as usual, my friend....:tiphat:

i gotta laugh at all you americans, you guys complain about your gas price when its at 3,50/gal....at the same time us canadians are paying 5-6$ a gal, presently prices here are at 1.44/L...which is about 5.75/gal...and priced have been like this for a long time....long time...

the funny part about this is we produce so much oil compared to the usa yet we still pay more...

i should also mention that i believe the gas tax at the pump is something like 50-70%.....the gov't is raping us....while big business gets all the profits

Who woulda thought?? A modern industrial nation of 300 million with absolutely NO energy policy. When Carter started the "Energy" department in the late 70's it's sole mandate was to insure the US would be self sufficient in energy. How'd that work out? How many billions, perhaps trillions have been spent by the DOE in it's useless quest to run the clock out, and now pour ever more money into totally useless pipe dreams like solar wind and lollypops all the while making us more dependent upon others to give us energy. We have more energy available right here, right now, then ever before. Every place they look they find oil. or gas, or both, but no, we're too special to do that here. Let others drill. Let them take responsibility. Let them ship it across the waters, through war zones and make deals with dictators and thugs when we could have a safe effective energy policy that would employ millions in high paying jobs from gas and oil field roughnecks to geologists and engineers. But no, we can't do that because the Utopian purists want us to power our society on bunny dust. Grow a pair and lets get to work.

Look at a diesel VW Jetta instead of a Prius. Drove my friends Prius for a few days and didn't like it. Better gas mileage with the Jetta, but I take longer trips, and you're not paying for all that technology.

Yeah when I saw the thread title I also thought it was about Cookies lol. If you really think gas prices are going to go up that much buy shares in USO, basically you're buying crude, make some money then take your profits and buy gas! Looks likes it's a little short term overbought right now but still room to move. I was watching it before it made its little run in the past few days but long term, technically, looks primed for a decent run much higher.

The smart money is moving to oil driving up prices. Iran popping off rockets and "testing" is sending clear signals to price future oil contracts.
Since most of Iranian oil export is to the far east, a disruption in supply to Europe would be minimal and a non-existent effect in the US but the markets 'buy the rumor, sell the news' is in full effect.
Iran needs a boogeyman to distract their people from soaring inflation and fast rising food prices and shortages. As a net food importer, Iran's suppliers are increasingly worried about payments and are demanding COD, putting further pressure on cash flows.
Since people can't eat yellow-cake, it will be interesting to see who goes nutty first,
the Republican Guard or the Iranian people.

I'm hoping it's the latter. They could do a lot better than the bearded bums they got.
