..my old neighbor was talking bout that ..seems when he was a kid he would come home with several lighters without realizing it..he filled a draw with them...sometimes friends would come back and ask ...he would point them to the draw and let them try an identify theirs...funny old guy

Lol, I have a friend like that. When I’m at his house I tell him the last time we were together he took my lighter. He just points to the drawer and says take your pick. I don’t think he does it intentionally, might be absentmindedness or slight kleptomania, at least that’s what I tell him.

Seriously guys.. Buy a spare lighter... Or dont smoke with people that jack ur lighters..
N btw if i do take someones lighter i always try to give it back the next time i see them.
I think thievery takes intent..
So i think the moral of the thread should be: if u dont want to be pissed off about not having a lighter... Have a spare.
They cost a dollar.
I try to reserve my anger n frustration for more serious affronts to my person/property.
But thats just me.

I have no problem making people get back into their car and drive and hour to return an "accidentally" procured lighter. It is amazing what the threat of not getting to smoke here again can do to a person.
I don't accidentally take any shit from your house so don't do it at mine andtry and justify it.
To me it is an easy way of knowing who you can trust and who cannot control even the most simplest of their shady leanings.

not much of a threat if there's a dealer on every corner and dispensary with a discount deal who provides smiling friendly customer service. there's a reason I don't talk to the dude with the bee line. dealers can't be dicks anymore :D lose a lighter, you lose the money the customer potentially has. if it's just a friend coming over taking your lighter, I say, sounds like that's the best thing that friends has happened to them yet. plus they got a free lighter. score!

That's how it is living with people

I do understand the living in the boonies and the, gonna light up a spliff but oops, no light

I totally understand if someone is getting caught off because he was warned

After a while, it gets tiring

to each their own

I don't hang out with people often enough to have it done to me to often

lol
reminds me

sometimes I will light a spliff and hand the lighter to someone
and he goes it's not mine, and then I remember that it's mine

Lighters theft is not just for stoners. It's an pan-galactic thing. When you live within a group of lighter users, that's a swapping orgy all the time. So, some rules must be set to minimize the impact of such behaviour. First is to recognize everyone is a potential thief. Yeah, you too. Specially you, if you take offence. Now, rules:
-If your lighter is stolen, you have 36 hours to recover it. After that period, you lose all rights above that particular lighter, unless you nick it.
-Never believe someone showing a lighter of the same colour as yours, as to prove the theft unintentional. They are the worst kind. They plan it.
-Don't bother making distinctive marks to recognise your lighter, they will get better hidden.
-Don't you ever buy a lighter. Never. If the group runs out of gas, as sometimes happens, it's pillage time, nick them only from outsiders until the level of swapping lighters gets back to normal. Providing the flow of lighters is the obligation of tobacco companies and dispensaries and the like.
-God didn't create lighters for single use, they were meant to bond people through. It's them forces of evil of capitalism that brainwashed humans to own their lighter just for themselves. It is THE lighter, not YOUR lighter. As if! Remember: You're playing with fire.
-Non-smoking spiritual holistic vegans nick lighters as much as everyone else, don't be fooled by their arrogance, they're after your lighter from minute one. Their excuse for it? "It's bad for you". And that's correct, so are old Chuck's roundkicks.
-Stealing lighters it's not a real crime. Try to go to your nearest police station and tell them just that, "Nigel nicked my lighter". Nigel will still be free and you'll be charged for wasting police time.
-If you get caught red handed, pretend that the lighter was yours and you only broke the 36 hours rule. Present owner will remind he nicked it himself in the first place and will be lost for words, thus avoiding higher conflict.
-Don't ever give a bic lighter as present, it's generally seen as an elaborated insult.
-Fistfighting about a lighter? You ain't old enuff for smoking.
-Sofas are the biggest lighter thieves of them all. Many an argument could've been avoided by checking in the deep sofa pockets. Sofas are bastards. They nick keys and coins too.
-Swapping almost empty lighters for filled ones is an artistic form of theft.
-Don't buy lighters in bulk. On second thoughts, do. I won't, though.
-With the help of science and hi tech, newer models of disposable lighters barely lasts two or three days, anyway. If stolen after third day, just laugh at the thought of someone else peeling off their fingerskins while trying to light up a bong.

Willy had a nice silver & turquoise lighter case for his Bics, real nice Mexican jewel & hammer work; when he lent his lighter he'd watch it like a hawk & take it back immediately, if not sooner. One night during a large gathering the unthinkable happened, his lighter got boosted while it was sitting on a pack of his smokes, nobody smoked his brand so the cigs remained, but that lighter was never seen again. he asked everyone to check their pockets but that fucker was gone for good.

crap happens.

Point is my spare DID get taken....

I'm also not talking about fucking kids being absent minded either, but rather grown men who should be responsible and know better.

As for the whole absent mindedness argument...that shit won't hold up if you get caught pocketing something in a store, and it does not hold up for me.

I simply don't understand how someone can be aware enough to pass/leave the bowl but in that same instant pocket a lighter.

I know I come across as an intolerant asshole here, but when you are working 50-60 hours a week and its ten pm and you want to sit down and puff before bed, and realize the stoner that just left your house absconded with your last lighter, damn straight im going to be pissed off.

2 best deals I've found for lighters -

8 pack at Walmart for $2. it's like a mini-flame-thrower, seems bottom-less.

The long lighter at the $ store for $1.

I was doing some roofing and got some tar on my hands.

Then the long lighter comes in handy. I have to use tweezers & needle-nose to load the pipe cuz I don't want to get tar on my medicine.

As for the lighter stealers ... for $2 you can use the Walmart lighters to make a sort-of flame-thrower ?

OK yes that could be an example of stoned thinking.

A mate of mine had a sign on his lounge wall that said,
"Lighter thieves will be set on fire.......if I've got some matches.".

have you ever seen the hemp wicks you can wrap around your lighter, then light the wick instead to have a cleaner hit minus lighter fluid taste? kinda of like the solar hits with magnify glasses?

I had a dealer who had this issue so he wrapped a wick around old lighters, wood, anything to hold on to and used the wick instead. the wick stays lit and is easily passed around, creates no ash and really works well. you can buy a large spool of it too for fairly cheap and it's supposed to be healthier.

seems like every time I get a cool colored bic it's gone in two days tops. grrr

Hemp wicks are great, I just keep forgetting to use them because, well, there's the lighter right there.
