mechanic called tonight (after the place was closed) saying truck was finished. total came to a bit over $700 for everything! completely rebuilt back brakes, new heater hoses, and actuation switch for the 4wd. i may tip the ol' boy a fifty for not raping me. i was expecting several C-notes more on the tab... :good: :woohoo:

well, cancel the glee... went to get my truck, and he said "oh, we'll have to order the 4wd actuator. do you want that fixed too?" well, DUH! that's why i brought it in! it's fucking snowing here now. part will be here Tuesday, no labor involved, but another $350 ... so, my original estimate of around $1200 is gonna be pretty damn close.

Too happy on the phone?

I see the new Shelby Cobra isn't in the states, but the 700bhp one would still look great with a trailer

Be sure to keep the actuator that comes off. If they can't produce your part, it's okay, they have already bought you another, to cover the loss.

yep. don't understand why they didn't do this FIRST. that was the main reason i took the damn thing in! i could have fixed the heater hose, but didn't want to do that outside while it's cold/windy/rainy/snowing, and the brakes still worked. i need my 4wd, dammit...now i'm sitting at home with no vehicle, it's fucking snowing, and the part is "on order"... :wallbash: gotta calm down though. everything that they have done previously turned out great, can't let one glitch sour me on a good mechanic. :smoke: gonna go to my "happy place". well, i would if my TRUCK was fixed...:(

i've got an F-150, which my wife picked out because it was "pretty, and would look good parked in front of the house". :( drove it less than a week, and the POS plastic water pump fucking exploded. then, the windshield leaked, and the entire electrical system went batshit crazy! now, a plastic tee in one of the heater hoses has developed a leak so small that you cannot SEE the hole. the hoses are molded to the tee, so i can't just change it. i aint got the time/money to buy/change new hoses, and if i did, they have quick connects on them that cannot be reached without disassembling the entire truck, right down to the damn lug nuts. so, i've bought a two part epoxy designed for plastic by JB Weld that claims to have a 3900 psi rating and will adhere to damn near anything. anyone here have any experience with this stuff? if i could find a "saddle patch" that would fit, i'd epoxy it on top of the hole in the tubing as well... thoughts?
god this sucks :( Just how old is this car, it sounds kinda àncient´ -all those leaks etc.
But new modern cars are b*ll*cks too I guess, worse even

lol, 2017... i'm 50 years older than the truck. :(;) ancient...
my dad once bought a brand new BMW and it spent more time in repair than it did on the road. He keeps having issues with his current car too . I think ALL modern cars are built to be so shitty that even the specialist mechanics can´t identify or fix the problems. :(

well dammit...here i am again! drove the POS to work on Friday, no problems. got in it to come home...problems. damn thing will not start. from all indications, the automatic transmission has a "location sensor" that lets it know what gear it's in. if it is not in "park", or THINKS it is not in park, it aint gonna start. when you move the shifter from park through the gears and back, NONE of the letters ( like P, R, N, D, etc) light up. WTF? mechanic says its a relatively simple fix, but he can't do it until NEXT Friday... i think that now (maybe) my wife understands why i wanted a manual transmission... never had one of those fuck up, and i know how to change clutch plates etc out myself. FUCK Fords...

Try using a different key, might be some BS anti-theft problem, and something to do with the FOBs, or the batteries in them going out??.. Try holding the key to the start position on the ign switch for 5-10 seconds or more (might start up all the sudden if you hold it long enough, according to f150 owners posts in other forums with starting problems), and or also just keep switching it on and off repeatedly, and wiggling the shifter from N to P, and also while someone else wiggles all the battery/starter cables, in the engine bay, etc. Check all the connections, make sure the batteries is actually good, blah blah, etc..

Beat the hell out of the starter\solenoid with a t-shirt wrapped mallet.. but don't forget to talk sexy to her while you do..

If all else fails, as seems to be the case a lot with 2017 f150s that the owners never end up getting answers..

Cover the whole truck with tin foil, and try starting it again.. Elon could be using his starlink satelloons with direct energy beams to disable your starting systems/ecu, so you end up going and buying a Tesla..

My best guess.. If you were having coolant and windshield leaks causing electrical issues, you probably have some kind of corrosion going on somewhere in the starting system, especially the areas that got sprayed during the WP explosion or ever been leaked on. I have no idea how many differend solenoids or actuators or whatever are involved in newer rigs, as I've never owned vehicles newer than '95, nor would I..

Maybe some coolant leaked right down into the starter\area, and it just needs to be cleaned up and reinstalled. Just took awhile for the connections to become corroded enough to have problems, even though its all leak tight now...

this is kinda odd imo. My car was an automatic and I never had such issues and I don´t recall other people I´ve known report this type of problem either. Does your gear shift have a button to press when you´re changing the gears around?

A (dmf) tragedy has landed me in a KIA. I would rather have a broken ford. I have never known such poverty. Twin electric sunroofs, with one touch open/close. But the actual windows have only auto down, for the driver. It's like the most basic unrefined thing ever, with toys added, but the basics never upgraded. It's got heated leather, even in the back. But the road noise is louder than the stereo, which has blown it's mismatched speakers. They call is a Sportage. Which means they made the suspension far too hard, and the wheels too big. You kind of joggle down the road, hoping your kidneys don't fail you. Hitting speed ramps, is like hitting kerbs. Understeer or oversteer, I'm not sure. It just felt like the wheel was going to fold under the car before either happened. Most irritable of all though, it locks the doors. Every time you get out and go to open the back, you can't. It locked it. All I do is get out and go to the back, about 20 times a day. It's fucking shit, and has them stupid drl driving lights. They light the road ahead, and the dash, but not the back. Wtf is the use in markers at the front being law, if markers at the back don't matter. Who thinks up this shit. Lighting the dash so you think the normal lights are on, when they are not.

I will swap for a broken ford. My friend has the newer version, and it jumps on the brakes for you when it's arse drops out. Moments before the driver behinds arse drops out. It alerts you audibly to the presence of a white line, and steers you back. When you are preparing to overtake. Still while riding like the streets are cobbled.

The broken auto selector should be easier than a clutch. I would get on that. 10 days is an eternity, when it's just a bit of wiring.

I have driven and owned F250 diesels since 1993. I’ve never had a moment problem out of all the trucks that I’ve owned and I’ve replaced them every three years. I maintain my stuff quite diligently so that might be why I don’t have problems, but I wouldn’t have a truck other than a Ford Super duty.
