Inherited a 29k mile Ford Fiesta 2014,, now on 31k miles and started to act strangely,
Car locked then the interior dash switching back on with key removed from the ignition ,,
Auto Electrician diagnosis 4 fault codes 2 that were nothing,
Other 2 were alternator regulator and Dashboard Control Module which the parts cost from Ford Main Dealers is a qtr of the cars worth,,
As soon as the bad weathers gone then so will the car,,,
Aftermarket or refurb module and a huge bastard bill just before Xmas ,,
Feel ya frustration AOH ✌️ and certainly the electrics are built like shit as well,,,

My 2025 car is gonna be yet another Lexus, I now love them, I've had 3 since 2000, and would go nowhere else, I'm pumping for the suv version, tho I'm not into Hybrid elec. stuff
that can wait another 10 years ...lol

Besides guys Trump's gonna fix FORD along with the MAGA crowd, so don't give up

my F150 does shit like brighten/dim the dash lights randomly, sometimes change radio channels or heater vent selections, go from heating my feet to clearing the windshield. :dunno::thinking: i thought my possessed truck was one of a kind. :whistling:

The Crown Victoria and The f100 straight six are probably two of the best most reliable cars ever made. I'm not a big fan of any new/newer car. But old fords are amazing.

Diesel?
Edit: Had a little dig, and the petrol one's also react to voltage fluctuations. I guess it's not full dash, but pre-ingition, a kind of getting ready. The sort of thing you get for 10 minutes after you get out. If it were diesel, you might also be talking of flat battery

First thing I did was put a new battery in,,
Auto Electrician showed me the fault codes,,
So new Dashboard Control module and apparantly a known fault on the 2014 model , mk 7 and half ,
Petrol, 1.25 engine,,

Have a look at the wires screwed to the battery terminal. They will bring on the dash yet not set off the alarm through volts drop. While also giving charging errors, and codes ford don't recognise

Thanks Ca++
auto Electric did check fuses, relays ,battery connections but like he thought it was the control module plus the Alternator regulator and both being changed as I type so hopefully that will be the end of it,,,,

Unusual to change a regulator these days. They tend to be just seen as part of the alternator, and in these disposable times, getting such parts can be tricky. Though not impossible, when it's likely a very standard alternator.
If the reg has gone, then crazy faults are likely, and it should be changed before the dash.
Be sure to get the old parts from him, as you are interested, and they are yours.

My dmf has gone, less than two years after I had it changed while the clutch was done. They said it had needed it, but couldn't produce it, as it was in the bottom of the skip. I should of stood my ground. My car isn't worth the £1500 to actually get it changed. Which they likely didn't do.

I'm an auto spark from way back. I missed the changeover, but these days the regulation tends to be done by the cars brains. With alternators well over a horsepower now, we can have them help with engine braking, or switch off when we demand full power, or to unload the engine to idle on even less fuel. As long as the ecu can see the battery voltage is fine. This probably extends to belt life, with lower loading at cold starts, just for a few turns until internal friction warms the belt. It really depends how deep down the hole a manufacturer wants to go. The last one I changed had something like a bicycle freewheel in it. The belt, like the bike chain, could spin it up. But when the belt/chain stops moving, the alt/wheel can keep turning. It wasn't stopped dead. It wasn't a flywheel. It made me think for a moment, which I liked.

Hope it's fixed up now, and that you could forget about it for a few days rest :)

No mate
after a new battery,,Dashboard control module,,and alternator regulator it’s still blowing a fuse so I have a Clarke jump starter which will help me get the car to my long term mechanics in the new year,,,,

I believe you have to work real hard at it ,like no oil lol
a guy i was in USAF with had a sister whose vehicle had that motor. we were visiting her in WV when she asked if we'd look at her car, it wasn't running right. my buddy asked her if she'd checked the oil lately. she laughed and said "you don't put oil in cars, you put gas in them." she had owned this vehicle for over 5 years...
