For those that enjoy a sharp piece of Steel

D

Don Cotyle

Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner, I just got released from the hospital! Last night I had either a Vagel(spelling) attack or an angina attack! They don't know which! My ekg looked fine but they wanted me to go have the catheter procedure done, NO! I'll take a stress test in a few day, but their not going in yet! I pretty know what caused it, low excersize due to my disability, semi poor diet, and I just quit smokeing a couple months after 37+ years! So We'll see! All I wanted was to come home and water my babies!

Ya'll have posted some lovely pieces of steel, quite a few I'd love to have!!! I'll be back tomorrow and show some of mine, I'm gonna spend some time with my Lady, it really shock her up when I went out of here in an ambulance last night! Peace! Well wait I have a pic allready loaded in my gallery!

The top blade is a Microteck "stilleto" out the front opener! It opens with a bang!!! To return the blade a handle comes out the base to pull on to "reload the knife"! Retail is around $475 I picked her up on auction for $275!

The center switchblade is a PicLock Pat knife it has been fileworked extensively and had Bovine tip scales to replace the black horn. It's an old re transion that closes by picking the lock with your nail to release, old school! It's also a fish, when the blade is folded in it looks like a fish! I paid $350 for that one!

The bottom one is just a cheap Florida Spike, coil spring fired about $12 bucks!

Keep those great blades comeing!

Tarkus: Don't Marines and Navy Seals carry Kabars to attach to their rifles as a bayonet? Not that they do that much anymore, although nothings more stealthy than a knife..

Bowlgrinder: check out this link:
http://home.netcom.com/~brlevine/sta-law.htm
Has links to the dangerous weapon laws re: knives of all 50 states. In IL any knife with a blade over 3 inches is a dangerous weapon and you can't carry it. Any switchblade/spring loaded blade is a dangerous weapon also. They make an exception for a hunting knife, but carrying it with the intent to use it on someone is a crime.
So that means if i buy an everyday carry knife, it can't have a springloaded blade or a blade more than 3 inches.
3 inches seems... small. I'm no size queen, but shit, can't a brother pack at least 5 inches without getting harassed by the man?

Don Cotyle: Whoa, scary shit man. U need to watch yourself carefully. I've heard too many stories of guys having chest pain, released by the hospital, then falling down dead days later. Not meaning to freak u out anymore than you already are, but yeah, get that stress test, start exercising and eating right, getting on some meds, etc. I know it will be hard to get proper exercise if you're physically impaired, but you'll look and feel better in the long run. We need you around man, you've made some great contributions to this board. I still remember your thread on pressing that big block of hash in that wood splitter, that was AWESOME. Most impressive American hashmaking i think i've seen so far...

Thanks flubnuts! That Remington is a real beauty, I have a pair in stainless!

Thanks Babalooie! Yea it's hard to get exercise on one leg! But I started doing pushups and pullups and taking short walks, anything to get the old heart pumping a little harder. If I was working I'd join a local gym-physical rehabititation center with a pool, I love to swim and it dosen't bother the leg that much!

Here's my everyday carry knife, it's a Kershaw Boa another Ken Onion desisn! When closed the fingerguard protrudes out the back and can be used as a switch! When lightly pushed down she fires open as fast or faster than any switchblade. Retail is $198, it's the only I've ever seen in a shop. I got it for half price, the shop owner said he had it for a year and as soon as folks saw the price they handed it back to him so he offered it to me for half $105 out the door! I've carried it every day for 4 years now, by the pocket clip on the reverse. Blade length is 3 1/2", where I'm from you can carry any size knife on your belt and or a handgun if not conceled!

She has a drop point recurve blade!

Mmmm racism and concealable weapons... dangerous bedfellows. I concur. That is at best disturbing and at worst really fuckin outta line.

anybody like balisongs? i miss my old jaguar, it was a cheapo but a lot of fun. would love to have a benchmade; dream of owning a darrel ralph.

flub, have you seen the spyderfly? that looks pretty slick for a bali. i used to have a cheapo jaguar too, it was unorthodox for a balisong, had a slightly curved handle and a finger ring. Damn thing was fast and relatively easy to tighten up when things got too loose. that makes me want to find out what room its stashed in.

This is another one I have, it's the SpyderCo Bill Moran. Beautiful and reputedly the ultimate fighting knife. VG10 steel.

the taipan is probably the most vicious fighting knife I know of, but I like the Bill Moran way better, much more practical for 99% of things

The double edge makes it a little bit harder to fight with I think, very easy to cut yourself during locks and blocks. It's an evil knife though :)

Yeah, the Bill Moran is a lot easier to handle in certain techniques... I only fight Kali / Silat style so other styles might see this different... Got any more of those Cold Steel knives?

That's exactly why the push dagger is superior in hand to hand combat, sheer grip strength and solid positioning in the middle of a tightly clenched fist keeps the fighter much safer from self inflicted injury. You have close to the same grip strength when first holding a knife, but the slight thumb offset and then the fighter suffers sudden grip weakness when he needs to angle the blade tip toward an opponent.

One advantage a blade might often have over a push dagger is length of reach by the opponents but be warned: youth and speed are no match for old age and treachery, never under estimate your opponent.

This is an old ('82) Al Mar Snubby from my collection
of vintage knives. It's 100% dead mint and has never
been worn on a belt. Value $300+, I paid $125 for it a
week ago as the seller was in a bind for the $$$.......

The Kerambit is real fun to play with. Haven't found one that fits my big hands yet but i hope to find one some day.

A little background on the Kerambit:

Mainly used as a backup weapon or assassination weapon because of it's small size and stealthy appearance. The ring-style grip and the fact that once in hand, only a small piece of the blade shows has made it a favorite weapon for female assassins (in the SE asia that is). It's used to pierce and slash arteries and other sensitive points on the body, often without the victim knowing what hit them. In short, it's a vicious tool of death in the hands of a master.
