Flush and starve plants during flowering??

The same principles apply whether growing in water, perlite, compost, peat, coco, any medium.

No need to be a smart ass.

Peace

I'm not being a smart ass, if your advice is based on your experiences in a soil grow it would be pertinent to point out that fact.

I would argue that hydro and soil "flushing" times are different because the roots have the nutrients more readily available and consume them at an accelerated rate.

I grow in compost which I stated in my original post, which is soil less.

I treat it like hydro. It's the same as if I was growing in water though. Or any other medium. Don't overfeed and make sure food is cut at the right time. The only way to get it dialled is experience growing the same strain until it burns like this.

My bad I just looked at your album and thought I saw soil :shucks:

Nice J!

How long do you flush with your current setup?

That was fed straight water for two weeks but the particular plant faded relatively early compared to other phenos of the same strain. It was fed the same so must've metabolised the food quicker.

N was cut out after about five weeks and they were chopped at about 9 weeks.

Hey bud, you mind showing the inside of that ash? Hard to tell if thats paper ash or not. Looks good on the outside... not trying to be an ass.... curious....

@vapor , thx bud! I think I got your jist.... thx for putting it in a understandable way.. gonna give it a shot your way. Always wondered why my 2 week plus flush was never the cleanest.... must have been over feeding.....

Vapor, how important is not over feeding in veg? Can overfeeding in veg ruin a harvest?

Veg is important to feed correct amounts. If you over feed phos in veg you get woody hard stems slower growth, sex parts start showing. same with nitrogen to much cause salt build up and could become a issue later in flower. lots a variables you will get the hang as your experience grows.
If i hit the correct levels in veg my planties are lush and juicy and grow fast. It is not my way, it is some thing i learned from better grower then me at the time. I hope i am gettin enough experience to be getting good at it. When i harvest a finished plant i can roll it into a joint before it is dry{3 or 4 days} and smoke it with a nice white ash, no burny lips or mouth. grow dank///

By 'ripening process', are you talking about the cure or artificially inducing a 'ripe look' before harvest. In the case of the latter, these plants don't need help ripening as they'll finish all on their own. That's one thing I've noticed about cannabis growers, they seem to forget that this plant has been doing its thing for thousands of years.

Water, light, air, minerals, and then GTFO of its way.

At least two important chemical processes occur with ripening fruit. Starches are converted to simple sugars, making fruit taste good, as indicated by the change in color as chlorophyll gets converted to color producing hormone. Artificial or not, those processes would seem to be a good thing, no?

My point is that those processes happen naturally without any assistance from us.

In regards to taste and fermentation, isn't that why we cure?

So what im gathering from readin the posts here and the cigar ash stuff. Seems to me, as the bud is growing, the nutrients need to be exactly what the plant is asking for. Or there may be a build up of unwanted nutes in the bud. That cant be flushed out fully from what I experience in my own grows. So in terms of less is more, it should end up with more optimal product with running less nutes at the time of bud swell and building. Also seems the ratios r important as well, high phosphorus and calcium, I think will help lead to nice ash. From the way I interpret the cigar stuff, these ratios r important at the time of budding as what is in the bud when grown is what is left after harvest and proper flushing/leaching... please correct me anywhere I went wrong. Thinking my thought process is getting closer to nice product.... appreciate your guys help:)

Sounds like you have a pretty good grasp on things. All that stuff about micro nutrients and cigars was a good read, especially the magnesium. Although, I don't think you want to push the Phosphorus too hard.

Guys!!! The KING of Cannabis himself, my personnal hero and mentor, Arjan and his sidekick Franco said it best!!!

¨we like to flush before the flowering and at the third or fourth week of bloom..."

Now, why do you think they say that in every grow report on their strains....? hmmmm i wonder....:groupwave:

approach it from quality not yield view point and your skillz will improve!

This sums it up perfectly. You have no idea how much it changes things until you experience it.

I have a hope that when all Cannabis is legal, we will go back to getting a much more diverse selection of strains any effects. No more worrying about bag appeal, aroma, and density. The effect should be by far the number one trait to look for. I cannot believe how many people judge by looks alone.
