note: plastic cc, gift card, driver's licence also equally horrible for collecting pollen. the credit card must have been oppositely charged than the pollen or greasy with my finger grease . all the dust stuck to it... the stuff that didn't get trapped in the porous construction paper anyways.

I ended up taking smoled hanging mirror and removed the frame. Set the bouquet of boy on it and and am going to use a new razor blade for scraping.

Thats a nice thread MORCHEEBA with some good info I personally am not that advanced, Im Just starting out growing so breeding seems like it's a long way down the road for me so i wrote down the thread for future use!

ok Question time for the newby.... So my cuttings rooted nicely and are potted up in the propagation cells, The question is this, is two weeks long enough to get them properly established in the Promix to start vegging them out?

Damn that didn't work hehehehe anyway at the moment they are at 350 ppm or.7ec and 6.2 ph and im thinking a gradual increase in solution strength is the way to go but when and how gradual is my other question. Im thinking about bumping them up next week by 50 ppm but i dont want to burn them

Hey guys, i almost had a heart attack and almost shit on myself. Driving through Tennessee with 11 zips, vacummed sealed and dryer sheets, trippled gabbed; got pulled over, kept my cool... Trooper wanted to search the car. I told him no because i didn't want everything scattered so i told him to get the dog. Next thing I see, the k9 is out. Does a lap around the car, doesn't bark, cop puts the dog away, shakes my hand and says "you're free to go I won't give you a ticket for the tints. (Legal in Florida)"

Scared the fuck out of me. All i have to say is these vacummed seal things work

Well time for an update on my stuff. The Amnesia x TT was growing into the lights in my veg area so I chopped my flowers a day early so I can move these in to the flower room where I have some room.

Damn dude that's nuts. Glad you were able to keep your cool. When you sealed them up in the vacuum sealer, did you wear gloves and stuff? The biggest mistake I hear about is people handle cannabis, then bag it up, leaving the residue all over the outside. That's what the dog then ends up smelling.

Why'd he pull you over in the first place? Speeding? Also I assume you have some kind of prior drug related charge on your record if he asked to search? I've never had a cop ever ask to search.

it is so sticky it clumps up into these pollen clods. that can't be good.

Damn coba commander...... Lol lining up rails on a weekday!!! Lmao:)
Simma dwn now!!!

Coba, this is how I usually do it. Since my plants are outside, I usually remove the male as far from the females as possible and then surround it on 4 sides with anything to break the wind so the pollen doesn't go airborne (that's a dream but it's normally somewhat effective). As soon as I see that large amounts of male flowers are opening I bag it up and take it to the garage where I let it sit for another day or so in dim light which seems to help more sacs open up.

I have a large dresser mirror that I wipe down several times with 70 % isopropyl alcohol then I shake that dude over the mirror vigorously.

Then I quickly pick all the green plant material out and with a BRAND NEW utility blade (also wiped down with alcohol to get the oil off) I pretend I'm in the movie Scarface and cut HUUUUUUGE lines!!

Actually I just scoop up all the pollen and place in a 4 oz jelly mason jar and put it the freezer ASAP. I can normally collect pollen from the same male for about a week this way until I get what I need and from what I've read it's usually viable for at least a couple of years as long as it doesn't thaw.

When ready for for use, remove from the freezer and apply to the desired flowers immediately. I've done this about 6 times and always got some viable seeds. Not as good as shaking that male onto a female in real time but the best way that I've found so far for storing pollen and using later selectively.

Root trimming

Root trimming

For everybody that wanted to see how I root trim, apologies for the delay but here goes. I usually do this with Mother plants that I've just taken cuttings from or if I've found what I think is a really good specimen and have taken cuttings and waited til they root to flower the plant, this is a necessity.

This will definitely set your progress back as the plant recovers but it tends to produce a better root set for containers than a plant from seed that has not been root pruned and develops a thick root mass at the bottom of the pot.

Timing is everything, if you can grow from seed in a large enough pot and flower before the root mass enlarges then this is not necessary but I have root trimmed and given the plant another 3-4 weeks and then flowered and have had amazing results.

In the same way that pruning vegetative growth produces a bushier plant with more vegetative tips, root pruning can produce a more effective root mass for taking up nutrients.

Now just imagine that there is a plant attached to this stump (probably works better since there isn't one...) and here goes.

I like to let the root mass dry out a little bit. Notice how the edges of the soil are pulling away from the pot. Serrated knives work best IMHO for this and this was a cheapie from the grocery store

This plant was not really root bound but you can see how the roots have massed at the bottom of the pot. Once this happens the side roots will begin to develop and given enough food and light, this one would be pretty well root bound in about 6-8 weeks.

picture.php

That's about when I would harvest the plant so normally I really wouldn't care at all

If it was really root bound

If it was really root bound

the knife shows where I would normally cut off the bottom of the root ball. About a third of the root mass looking at it from the side.

picture.php

then from the top (looking down) I square off the plant with four cuts.

picture.php

Then, turn the plant 45 degrees and cut off the corners to acheive an octagon (or pretty close, hell this ain't brain surgery)

picture.php

Take you new container (or your old container) and put enough medium in the bottom to get the plant to the right height for the pot size and then fill in all around the root ball with new medium and water it down so it all settles and your done.

picture.php

Give it reduced lighting for a couple days and then ramp it up. Like a seedling or other transplant, you might notice a lack of vegetative growth for a week or 10 days as the plant grows new roots but after that they should be back to normal growth.

YMMV :tiphat:

"not as good as shaking that male onto a female in real time"
that's what I had been doing. It's a lot easier I think but you have to have your timing just right.

I think I'm scraping too soon. Last night the pollen that was left to dry for a few hours piled right up Tony Montana style. It's got to be coming out of the flowers like that because the humidity is great, right at 50%.

Bugman, that is exactly what my bouquet of boy looks like except I have four tops in the cup.

Copperfield, it's been a while since I could do fat gangstas like that all day. That is a beautiful plant sir.
