Make your own bro. Much cheaper. I mixed 2+bales of soilless base for half the cost of a bale promix at the local grow shop....

3 cuft compressed of peat~12
4cuft of perlite~ 22
50# lime ~ 5
Recycled coco/chowmix(3cuft)-free
3 cuft castings(optional)~ 25

Assorted gypsum n pumice laying round- free

Other than castings(local nursery) and used chowmix everything can be sourced at home Depot/lowes

From there the ammendments can be cheap or you can treat as promix/sunshine/soilless with synthetics.

Im currently running a modified big Ricky style grow since I had bigbloom laying round from samples, got burnt out on coco dtw dripfed... With og biowar tea once a week.

What about the azomite ghost?? I took the time to buy it.... I'm just kinda making a 24hour tea like once every few weeks w the azomite, worm castings, chicken poop, bat guano from under an overpass, and some high bricks molasses....

I'm curious how much do you soil Guys spend on your mix a full run? From start to finish, do you guys add any tea or nutrients or the soil has everything start to finish? I'm a Hydroman

Yea, I'm a hydro man to Windy City.... I started out w soil, but in drifting more and more to hydro. I get it that building soil allows the plant to take what it wants rather than what u give it..... I just can't figure out how to finish the soil plants right. U can't add anything non organic because it fucks up the soil, thus defeating the organic purpose. There's gotta b a way to get an explosive organic finish...... Epsom salts??? Anyways, I usually spend around 250 bucks n soil and amendments every 6 months...... I'm experimenting w crushed egg shells, banana peels..... I'm also putting in water lettuce/water grass and old dead water lilies out of my fish pond.... I put a lil compost on top of it all as well.... I've got some alpaca poop I wanna start adding as well!! My soil is a bit heavier than I'd like it to b...... But I'm workin on it!!

Azomite is cool. A bit over priced imo. Just brand name minerals Iirc. I put that in the ammendment category, which doesn't go into my base mix. You can mix synthetic fertilizer and organics. Plenty do. And plenty do without knowing its not "organic"... There's a bit of an echo chamber with lots of organic growers... Just watch/mind your levels Iirc... A truly complete regiment utilizes both synthetic and organic inputs imo

Man it was Cold this morning frost was everywhere. It's colder this year than last year right? It's been hot/warm for so long I forgot

Im not sure about last year, probably, but "back in my day" (roll your eyes now)..... it used to consistently hit in the 20s in cfl usually 3rd -4th wk of jan for a few days. I dont remember it being that cold in awhile now. So i would say on larger time frame average it has been warming steadily.

Id much rather have mid 30s (ugh dont believe im saying that)

I remember a christmas when i was real young like 6 it froze and killed all the citrus trees around. It was so cold the kiddie pool in my grandmothers back yard froze solid. I think it got like teens that year in orlando. This winter kinda reminds me of the one before the big drought and subsequent fires of 98.

I was spending a fortune on soil mixes but since i went to big pots no till and topdress only lifes so much easier and a whole lot cheaper. Now im working on slowly getting away from buying anything. Been composting crabs shells and fish guts in beds of cowshit and it seems to be working so far. Next will be to feed that to worms and thatll be some badass castings. Also mixing in homemade charcoal dust for the compost and saving chunky perlite sized pieces for part of my eventual aeration amendment. I tested charcoal at 25% of mix before with no bad affects. Only plan to use 10 to 15 % next time with the same amount of sea shells. Im in the middle of a run testing sea shells as a perlite or rice hull replacement. Everything is looking great so im convinced i can use them. Eventually im also gonna try runs replacing peat with composted cow shit and leaf mold and see how they do. I wonder if the seaweed around here is any good? I like what alfalfa and kelp do so i might keep buying those but i would love to find a free replacement for both. Neem cake too i love to topdress with it at flip it seems to keep bug problems away for the most part.

P-NUT, "I wonder if the seaweed around here is any good?"

Yes, it's a brown seaweed, Sargassum natans and Sargassum fluitans, and people eat it and compost it but be careful because the coons will also eat it.

I googled the names and yeah thats what we got here. Ive brought some home and i think it has little creatures in it that attract the coons. Im gonna have to do some more experimenting.

As for spanish moss ive composted it and used it as a mulch but never heard it was particulary rich in anything but i hope it is.

Azomite is good just not worth the shipping cost unless you can find it locally. Which i can. Wish i could find other rock dusts locally that i knew the content of
