..cat,Unreg,nome....man o man,you guys got that right,not sure wheres about.you all are at...but shit, LIGHTING AND WIND,once the squalls come.thru have and make me a nervous wreck especially while out working and NOT.HOME...lol, semi gut wrenching at times,no doubt....BE SAFE BROTHERS....

There have been two busted due to cars crashing into them I've seen, once was weird, twice is down right strange.
One was a corner of the house, and right inside was some poor fuckers grow, I mean what a fucking bummer. Talking about bad days.

One caveat on the house busted with the fire. A neighbor said they heard a loud bang before the fire broke out. And the news story mentioned that they where stealing electricity (Bad mojo). I wonder, was it fused properly? Line voltage will do bad shit without proper breakers, 300-500 amps will make a mess of things quick.
It is critical that all the wiring is done correctly for fire prevention and that maintenance is perform regularly. Especially ballast plugs. And not just the one for the outlet but the one for the hood.
Bad connections cause the voltage to drop and the wattage to rise. Wattage = heat...... without proper fusing you are asking for trouble.

Regarding the electrical and people that have had it added, do you hire someone you don't know to do it? I don't know anyone who could do that work, and not sure how to hire someone and what you'd say you're doing with the additions.

Hugh i would use a 20 if possible ive used a 15 before but i popped it a few times till i realized my bathroom was on same circuit and if everything was on and i turned on bathroom light bang. And my ac then was 12 or 15k too

I was kinda lucky i didnt burn my house down. I was doing some figuring and a 1k hps and 5k window banger are roughly 14 to 16 amps thats without any other draw. Thats the most youll wanna safely go on a 20 amp circuit. If 30 where available i would use it but 20 should be fine with just light and ac

And take my advice dont do extention cords a dumb ass i know almost burnt his house down running 2k through a cord. I saw that and was like wtf i bet thats hot as fuck and he grabbed it and burnt his hand it was so hot

if you increase the breaker to 30 amps are you allowing more current to run thru the existing copper wiring in the grow room and if so wouldnt that increase the risk of a fire from over heated wiring?

im electrical dumb but i dont want your shit to burn down bro.

Morning guys,

Hugh....The breaker is there to protect equipment/wires from causing damage by being overloaded and or shorted.

Say you put in a 20 AMP breaker.....and your wires are rated for 25 AMPS...and for some reason you try to pull 25 AMPS the breaker would trip @ 20 and your wires would be safe.

Put in a 30 AMP breaker.....same rated wires and you pull 25 amps.....the wires would be damaged before the breaker trips since the wires only handle 25 but the breaker protection doesn't come into play until 30.

Think cheeba was saying your breaker rating should be based on your wire size....

The amp limit on a breaker/fuse is just a cap set on it. So it does allow more total current , it does not make more current go through it at 1 time. The items on that circuit will only pull what they are rated at in a perfect world. It could be a fire risk, but that would be more the case if the load and the breaker are not matched up well, and something malfunctions, allowing the gear to go way over current w/o flipping the breaker.

As far as wires go, your house, and gear should already be wired with appropriate stuff (perfect world pending). If you need to beef up you breaker box, then just beef up everything after it to handle your demands.

I'm no electrician either, but have wired up ton of car amps. 1k watt amps, need larger cables than a 250w amp.

The 1000 watter uses almost 11 amps. Check the amperage of the window unit. You do not want to go over 80% of the breakers amp rating. So a 20 amp breaker is good for 16 amps.
HOWEVER, unless you run a new wire, your house outlets won't handle both the ballast and AC plugged into the same outlet OR circuit (a lot of outlets are wired in series to one breaker).
Run a new wire AND breaker.
Wire size MUST BE correct for breaker size!!

not a super old house,yet not a super brand new one...but in one room with a 1000 in one socket,a 400 in another, then a window unit in another socket, then a fan in another socket(obviously theres a socket on each wall in room)..then i have fan plugged into same socket as 1000, havent had any toubles yet(knock on wood)..but now you guys got me wondering and thinking..LOL
