First Time Out

Looking good, FT76...

Your plants are fine.
Are you on city water or do you have your own well?

Currently I'm on city water. But i'm unsure if that's it or not. Not saying your wrong, but even when I was using purified bottle water it was there. & it's showing up on top of the RR as well. The white ash that is.:fsu:

New Developments!!!!!!!!!!

New Developments!!!!!!!!!!

Yea my friend I have a couple. I received my tent on Tuesday. I set it up yesterday & introduced the babies to their new BIGGER home! As you can see I have their new light source going & the atmosphere fan going. I am going to have to get some ventilation going in their real soon. Temps rose to 90 degrees in an hour.

Also I noticed that in the MH light I can really see their color. They are really pale green. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! They are in Day 12 of veg & I'm starting to worry bout them being so small still. I flushed them yesterday morning thinking that the soil maybe was too hot. But it actually looks as if they are starving. The cotyledons are turning yellow which I read somewhere on here that means that they are using up their supplied food already. The only 1 that looks pretty good is the newbie. It's still dark green. I hope that just maybe the 24w floro I had them under wasn't enough. And hopefully the new MH will perk them up. ! more pick of them settling in........

Will provide more up close pics tomorrow when the lights come back on. Right now it's about time for lights out. Any & all comments, suggestions, ridicule, & motivational support is welcome. Thanks in advance IC. And a BIG THANKS to you Pan for being SOOOOO supportive these last few days.

HI FT76

You'll definitely need some kind of exhaust fan to control the heat in your tent. I think a fan rated for 500m3 is plenty for a tent this size (the one i'm using now is oversized, but I will be ordering something more "appropriate" in a few weeks.. the one I'm getting for my dr120 is rated "400/800m3" and has 2 speeds.. it costs about 70 euros. (I decided 2 speed was best as my room gets hot in the summertime)

if/when you get your fan, you then need to set up "negative pressure" to make sure your getting the best from the air flow. This is SO easy with a tent... I was really worried at first that I wouldn't know how to tell when "negative pressure" had been achieved... but its simple.. the sides of the tent get sucked in.. you can "see" the pressure drop

need more pressure, close off the vents and un-used duct ports, need less, open a vent or port... easy.. the idea is that air is travelling out of the tent faster than its being drawn in. that means that every particle of air must travel through the exhaust fan (usually with carbon scrubber) and as such is replaced by cooler cleaner air particles from outside.

if your cotyledons are turing yellow and your plants have slowed right down, I would definitely pot one on just to see the roots. if that one is rootbound the other are as well, and if its not, then at least you can eliminate that problem

good luck mate

P.S I see your lamp has a built in ballast. these things also add to the heat in the tent and is why a lot of growers prefer a ballast thats seperate. Seeing this I'm now positive you will need that exhaust fan to control the temps.

JamieShoes is right. Your temps will be outrageous until you get a larger fan to duct out all of that hot air. I've got a 6" Vortex fan that is more than enough to keep my 400w lamp (remote ballasted, mind you) and tent a cool 72° F. Instead of purchasing a fan with multiple speed settings, I bought a router speed controller. This device allows you to adjust the speed of your fan with a much greater level of control. You can simply dial the speed up or down to accommodate your needs. I keep mine dialed down to roughly 1/3 of it's max speed.

Your tent is much larger than mine, so the 6" might be just what you are looking for.

Hey guys thanks for coming by & responding so soon. Hey jamie, I have been thinking that just maybe they are rootbound. I will see tomorrow if their soil is dry enough to pop 1 out & check it. But what if it isn't then what? They were doing so well & then it's like they slammed on their brakes. They haven't gotten any taller since the last pics or anything. Other than the leaves turning down & the paling of the leaves.

Hey pan glad to see you. I will be ordering a fan/filter combo within this new week, hopefully. I really enjoy my new tent. It's a helluva lot bigger than I thought it would be. & yes guys that light/ballast combo does produce LOADS of heat. But it puts out a shyt LOAD of light as well. So hopefully when I get my feet wet with acouple of grows I can afford that lumatek 600w I was talking bout.

So thats it for now. Lights were out before I got home so I will check some things in the morning when it comes back on. Thanks alot my friends again for stopping by. PEACE

if it's not routebind, then we can start maybe looking at feeding and watering and also whether they could be heat stressed (usually though heat stress has it's own signiture symptoms which include leaf curl and bleaching - I don't think you have that)..I'm also a first time grower, but I read a lot and if I can figure it out with you, then we both learned something valuable

hehee the dr120 it's like a tardis eh, I was thinking about renting half of mine out..

Post more pics. Closeups if possible...
Also, if you do take one plant out and inspect roots, take a shot of those, too.

We'll get it figured out...

Hey guys, how are things going? Fine I hope. Hey jamie I believe you may be correct about the heat stress & bleaching. I moved the light down to 28" hopefully to keep the stretch down when they do perk back up. I still have hope. But it started it under the floro before I moved it into the tent. But to me it looks as if it has gotten worse. I pulled 2 of them earlier, the mazar & the vigorous bs, & they both had roots down in the bottom of the beer cup growing in a circle. I attributed this to being rootbound & transplanted them both into the 5.5" pots. I'm sorry pan I didn't take pics was running late for work when I did it. I imagine if those 2 are like that then the rest are as well. Minus the newbie.I only did 2 so the other 3 are still in the cups. So I still have a chance to take pics of the roots when the soil dries again. I watered them all again today(molasses & water). I will say this, the roots were pretty & white. So I guess that's a good thing. RITE?????

I will post close up pics of them all tomorrow. Just got here & tired, so plz be patient with me. I really appreciate you guys being so informative & supportive. It REALLY HELPS. Oh yea jamie it's huge. I told my kids it was the time out chamber. LOL

Not quite as big as that but similar. It' looked as if it had begun the growing around the bottom of the cup. But that is beautiful. Thanks for the quick reply jamie. I really hope I can bring them back this way. If not then at least I haven't lost much, being that they are bagseed & freebies.

its all an education eh mate

I felt I left that one a little too long to pot on.. but it carried on growing nicely... one thing about bigger pots is that they protect your plant more in hotter environments - they won't dry out as quick and the more medium there is, the more insulated it is meaning steadier temps around the roots - less interference from ambient temps :)

Yea Jamie always learning. Big thanks go out to you & pan tho 4 being attentive & patient. Hey herb pull up a chair & feel free to throw pics, comments, suggestions, & info whenever. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi FT76,

give them a couple of days to settle in to their new homes mate.. pics 1 and 2 look pretty ill but the others seem to be recovering... don't forget now they're in a bigger pot, you won't need to water as often...

best of luck
j

Hey blitz thanks for stopping by. The mutant was initially the most vigorous one in the beginning.

Hey jamie it's pics #1 & #3 that I'm worried bout. Pics #2, #4, & #5 are starting to perk back up looks like. & those are the BS. Their newer sets of leaves are greener than the old foliage. I've lowered the light down to 22" today. I've also made me a mix of LK, Molasses, & EWC tonight in a 5 gallon bucket thats been bubbling for 2 days. I don't believe that I'm gonna get approved for that fan/filter combo for another couple weeks. Dat sucks, but I got an external fan blowing into the vent flap @ the bottom of the tent. That kinda keeps the temps down a bit(85 vs. 90-95) at least till I get that combo. So thanks for all the comments, suggestions, & help my friends, & keep rooting for me. Pun intended. LOL

85° is workable, but less than ideal. Considering the fact that you are vegging under an HPS and your temps are as high as they are, you're encouraging your plants to stretch.

I recommend putting them back under the fluoros until you get your new fan...
