I just ran into the too much light problem. I had the new led 8" away since 5" was max. I noticed purpling of the cotyledons and new tips that were forming. It is winter and a bit of a chill in the room. They weren't showing that before and I only made one change. I increased the distance and they are starting to recover. I moved it up a few more inches just in case.

greenheart did you measure the lux?do you use an app?if its an app wich phone do you have?
Those lights are strong men kkkkkk

Cool !!
What are you going to do with them ?

Are you going to put some critters of some sort in there ?

Salamander, frog, lizard, snake ??

Nothing, i will just let them do their thing while closes, forever..im just doing what some guys show on YouTube..
its funny to see what happens..for now i see one tiny spider that went inside with the moss, probably she will die, but in principle the moss should thrive. Some guys even do closed terrariums filled with water and some shrimps and after 1 or 2 years the colony thrives, numbers of individuals and plants change across the time until the ecossystem finds a balance.
Its cool as a gift for somebody and that somebody is my girlfriend :D

I'd love to try to make a combination SIP container/aquarium/terrainium with a big ole pot plant growing. Lol

Something like this...

Korona app with I-11 in a case.

8" was 40000 to 50000 lux depending on center or edge of tray.
5" over 200k unreadable.

The reflectix roll wasn't in the equation when I measured them. It probably didn't help when I put the cylinder around them. Korona was a freebie. I chose it based upon sick humor nothing else.

I just rubbed my phone up against my strips trying to get the highest reading.
My strips are set at just above the test current.

The max that I got was 18415 lux.

I know that we have different phones and apps, but holy shit !!

You're beaming up pretty bright. Lol

Do you close and seal the lid ?

Is it a self contained symbiotic environment that feeds itself ?

Yes it is.
There are some beautifull pieces of art from some guys on youtube, for some green in a house without doing anything besides giving them light its awesome.
One of the plants that have that purplish collour in the stem are pointing their to the light as i turn the terrarium, thats a good sign :)

From what i see online, korona is one of the best apps for it, it has par too right?you need to put a piece of white paper on top of the camera lens?

I think your light should be higher than 8" i think kkkk

And at the current you are running them how much lux you should be gettin?you know?

For instance my 9w 720lm caps off max have a max reading of 25k lux, the 13w 1521lm on the other hand max out at 50/55k, its the closest it can get, quite a difference..
My chinese luxmeter is taking so long to arrive

I think i've seen some guy some years ago that tried it, it didnt work mainly because how much nutes the plant needs at different stages and some other things i think..
I think the conclusion its that it could work if you set different aquariums for different stages of the plant. That balance between everything you know.
But the plants seems to always love the water from aquariums

My 4 strips combined are putting out about 10000 lumens.
The surface of the soil is about 1 meter below the lights, so I should read 10000 lux, but I'm getting 8000 lux.

I just measured my single 10 watt 800 lumen sil.

I jammed the phones photo sensor right in there.

I got 18393 lux.

I just measured my new 1500 lumen 16 watt bulb.

I got pretty much the same reading.

I think what's going on is that I'm only getting a reading from a single LED segment at a time.

Both my sils and my strips have about the same age technology for their LED chips.

I'm guessing a new bulb with the latest technology would show about a 25% increase in lux from a single segment.

I decided to crank my ceiling strips to past max for a few seconds to take a reading.

This is what I got ...

So I think I downloaded a crap app...

I'm going to try that fancy Covid app and see what happens...

I couldn't find the Kovid app, I kept getting sent to the Covid-19 app. Lol

So I tried another one.
This is what I got...

Now I'm thinking it's my phone...

It has a maximum.

So now I will judge light intensity by staring at the lights and my plant. Lol

For sure they did better when I moved it up about a foot.

I didn't know about the white paper. That is certainly going to make a difference. The bulb itself claims 32W and 4500 lumens.

Korona App gives readings in ppfd, Daily Light Integral, and lux. If you pay you get the Kelvin scale unlocked.

*I'll try the app on my old 5s and see if I get different readings.
