I might have an old pump around here..let me look in my shed tomorrow man.

it's a long shot but I feel yah.......and I got a LOT of time if you really need it and a Prius LOL.....I'll see what I can dig up. I got shit everywhere here.

I dont know maybe 100 ft, this last pump had 150ft max and was used here.

I would rather buy something new and not from harbor freight....

Any other suggestions?

I bought the Honda wx10TA........Company sent the wrong pump so no reviews yet. However, that is where my research lead me. Not sure if that helps, hope it does. Got mine off amazon.

Did you get any work in the rain done? I'm right here with you with plants really ready to transplant, need fence built, trench dug, etc. Tried to build fence yesterday in the rain but I have to stand on my car to pound 10 ft posts and the hill was too muddy for my car. Tried to trim trees and the pull cord wouldn't recoil. So I slipped around and got my irrigation going to get my mounds wet.

I feel you on Harbor Freight. I think they're basic water pumps are great though. The one I mentioned doesn't sound like it would be enough But they have a 6.5 hp 151 gpm version for $200 that would work, if you're in a pinch and need one quick. You can always return it. And for $36 they have a 2 yr no questions asked replacement plan.

Good to know thanks guys. I found the same electric pump from a cali supplier. If this also falls thru I will probably go with a honda unless the timing is bad...

Fence is almost done. Im going with 7ft deer fencing and then string tied at 8 and 9 ft with some flapping shit up on the poles to freak the deer out. I don't want them to get any ideas. They love it up there. I'm kinda chillin for a bit today. Work has been intense. I think timing is looking pretty good right now for everything. Watering will be a bitch but in a couple days it will actually start to look like a garden and I'm stoked to see it coming together even though I still feel totally wrecked.

Still lots to do but at least the majority or the harder stuff has been done.

Just put in 4 12 hour days. Rain and all. Busting ass. Blood and sweat. All blessed, couldn't be happier with this weather. New moon transplanted this evening.

Are you sure you dont mean less spacing between nodes when root bound?

In my experiences the nodes get really tight when rootbound, almost like they want to flower.
Yes, I mean more space on the nodes. Controlled by plant hormones. Think about balance of roots to shoots. Do not want more shoots than roots. Or think about the relationship of root size to plant size. A plant can be stalled by stress from being root bound. More roots equals more fruits. Look at the growers that pull 10+ there not messing around with a small amount of soil.
IME with all types of growing no better bang for the buck to have a larger container with more roots.
Hope all is growing well with you.

The second company also fell thru for the pump...

I went and got a 1hp shallow well water pump that runs on electric. Got it from harbor for like 140. Its ridiculously quiet. I got water pouring out up top! That is a motherlode off my chest. Now I can smoke weed all day and finish up the fence tomorrow so I can plant the ganja and cover crop.....whew!

I forgot I need to source straw without weed seeds in it...im writing this here to remind myself perhaps you forgot yours as well?

I don't know if rice straw has seeds in it or not, I remember reading about someone using it here on IC.

Rice straw will not seed.... Ask the supplier of the rice straw for the Ag certificate, they should have a copy to give you, or at least show you, but i guess it depends on how big the place is and how much they sell.

I had 70 bales of Rice Straw delivered a couple months ago for erosion control purposes.... And I'm going to get more to use as mulch for my plants once the season gets started for me.

I dont think you will need that many bales for that..... I would think 4 bales would be more than enough depending on how much you put down. This year will be my first year using it for mulch as well, and i may or may not add in some clover for a living mulch before i lay the rice straw down.

Last year I used the build a soil living cover crop and didn't really like it because there were vines that crawled up the plants, and other plants that got pretty big and ended up attracting leaf aphids / restricting air flow underneath my plants.

yah im goin to try the buildasoil seed mix too. Never used any mulch before and the plants were fine but i do think it will help keep the soil biology active

some of my pots last year just started growing grass, like real soccer-field type grass. tall and lush, which i havent seen anywhere else on my property. I'm goin to have to dig it up to amend my pots. super weird but it's probably a good sign

How necessary are the inner remesh cages?

Is it just 8' woven wire? I'm wondering where you guys get it so I can look up cost.

I assume 5' would be needed to make a cage? So approx 100' total by that estimate.

I'm wondering if I can get away with just t posts and trellis this year.

7' tall rolls of remesh. home depot can order it. lumber yards usually have it. if 7' is hard to find you can probably just use a 5' roll because the first cage doesnt have to be tall , just need to keep the plant from falling over or being ripped out by wind.

trellis isnt good for your initial support. the remesh cage is like an exoskeleton for the main stem. get the remesh you won't be sorry, plus it lasts forever

once the plant grows past the remesh cage you should get ready to put up the first layer of trellis
