the ones that finished the freezer cure and have been jarred for a month are some of the nicest cured buds I've ever had the pleasure of smoking.

Hey Heady... I dont even jar em anymore. After they have been in the freezer long enough and reach that perfect cure. I take em out, vacuum seal em in 1/4lb bags, and put em back in the freezer. Whenever I take em out, its like perfection. Even 6+ months later

hehe i haven't tried it yet but you mentioned this to me a few months ago and i pass along your recommendation when i explain the freezer cure to people.

i still need a foodsaver.

the vacuum breaks after a short time with the cheap foodsavers. i have one but found if I seal the plastic an extra couple of times the vacuum will hold better.

and the frozen cure is the best. All my buds get froze now!

Thanks jpg for bringing this here! There's a butload of good information in here, great job to everyone for keeping this thread going.

I will give this a try when my plants are ready for harvest. Currently at day 49 of flowering :))

Quick question, I probably missed it during reading everything, does it have to be a frost-free freezer? Would an older freezer model work too?

I really hope so :)

i think the auto-defrost is important.

a regular freezer may work, but i think it may work differently than this method.

it sucks cause i want to buy a stand alone freezer to dedicate to this process but it seems like auto defrost is only in fridge/freezer combos. so frustrating!

I've been keepin an eye out for a small frost free stand alone freezer I can put in the garage or the attic that can be just for buds.

only ones i've found have been for rich people's outdoor kitchens ($$$) or for the commercial food service industry ($$$$).

I just googled this cuz i had a bag of shake in the freezer in a freezer bag from 2 years ago and took it out and the little buds in it were fire.

Definitely worth a try.
I have noticed that the ice cubes in my freezer can take on refrigerator smells and a slightly less-than-fresh taste when they have been in there for a while, especially when garlicky or other strong foods are stored in the fridge. Will herb pick up any aromas or tastes while in the freezer like ice cubes can?

Not that I have noticed... But I'm not a big fan of garlic.
The bud is usually the stinkiest thing in the freezer, lol. Maybe a box of baking soda in the fridge would help with that also.

You guys sure it has to be a "NoFrost"/"frost free" freezer?

Everybody in this thread (didn't read EVERY post... yet) used a NoFrost freezer?

Thing is, standalone freezer with "NoFrost" is about 300 bucks and more or less always "full size".

While if I could go with a regular freezer and ignore the "NoFrost", I could get a nice small "tabletop" freezer for about 100 bucks ...

I am pretty sure I will go with the freeze cure when the time comes but I would rather have a small dedicated freezer in my grow area for my seeds and buds than using my kitchen freezer...

I also have another full-sized fridge somewhere in the basement that has a good, seperate, freezing compartment with "NoFrost".

But running that huge of a fridge in my grow area ... Kind of a waste of electricity unless I store other stuff in there ...

Even if I use it to keep nutes, cuts, seeds and buds, I wouldn't use 1/2 the area in the freezer compartnent and probably not even 1/4 of the fridge compartment...

So yeah, a clear info on the "NoFrost" being important would be nice. Unfortunately I cannot test/share experience myself. Just learned of this method and am still in the planning stages.

I love this thread.
It resonated with me far more than any of the other cure methods so I threw 55/60g's of my first harvested plant ever into the freezer last night. All my eggs. One basket. I have faith :D

I plucked the biggest fans and hung to dry for 6 days until the stems started snapping. Spent more hours than I'd like to admit manicuring... then into a cardboard box they went. I folded the flaps on top of eachother to "close" the box while allowing air flow and what not inside. In 10 days I'll pull em out and check for snappiness/dryness. I don't really know what to look for at that point exactttttly lol but they will be transfered to sealed jars after being taken out of the freezer. Hygrometer will guide the burp to 65ish, and a boveda will bring it to 62. At that point they will be sealed for "long term" storage.

Now we play the waiting game.... :D

in my experience it's best to let them thaw out and come to room temp in open air, then transfer to jars and start burping.

iv'e skunked a jar or two when i first tried this technique by going directly from freezer to jar.

i also recommend taking it out of the freezer at the beginning of your day so you have a full 12--16 hours to watch it carefully and burp as needed.

usually it only takes a day to get it perfect and it can stay sealed indefinitely after that requiring no more attention.

10 days probably won't be sufficient. Which is why you might still feel the need to burp your bud. I personally feel like burping is unnecessary, when this process is done right. Having to burp your jars seems to make this method a mute point. If your still using a hygrometer and watching/burping your buds, you could have just went that route immediately after harvest, and save yourself a few weeks.
My buds stay in the freezer for up to 3 weeks before I remove them, vaccum seal them, and return em to the freezer. By 3 weeks time they are perfect.... and the sealing stops the drying process. The buds get rolled up right out the freezer and they couldn't be more perfect.

The only thing needed for this method is alot of patience and a frost free freezer, IMVHO. Good Luck and Happy Holidays!!
