Hey fiddynuts if you dig a hole to put your water containers they will be discrete and the earth around them will keep it fairly cool. Get a 12 volt pump your life will be easier. You can use a cordless drill battery or battery from your vehicle. Thier was a guerilla thread here the guy put a water tank on his truck and would drive to his spots to water. Hauling water is no fun.

Good afternoon packerfan.

That's a great idea to keep your water res under ground. I suppose you wouldn't want to water with 90+ degree water. I'll defenatly look at a pump if we use a res.

She has one of those side X side 4 wheeler things that they drive around there property. Depending on where we put them it mite make sense to get a tank for the back of the 4 wheeler. There are a lot of trails through the wooded areas and we could probably put them near the trail.

You are right that hauling water is no fun so we will prioritize their location by ease of getting water to them.

I hope your weekend is off to a good start...Fiddy.

It's pretty cool how cool the earth stays just a few ft down, you won't get better insulation. The earth provides everything we need to survive.

Weekend is off to a great start, getting the organic veggie garden started got 2 100 gallon smart pots full probably going to order another 100 gall smarty since I have so much left over compost /dirt mixture. Kids love growing stuff.I guess they got that from me  lol . Trying to get away from the gmo veggies, they wreck havoc on my oldest boy, he has autism, and the crap they spray on veggies is not good for him. The wife and I keep talking about going off grid. I just can't afford off grid properties in the West. Don't want to head south. Idaho, Montana, the Dakota's all viable options. Maine is still on the table. Alaska would be nice but not enough of a growing season. Colorado is my first choice but the wife has an irrational hatred of Colorado because she lived in Denver for 3 months and has family she's not fond of there. Stupid I have no desire to live in any city. Especially not Denver.

Hope your weekend is going well fiddynuts

i like your idea of starting her off with autos
they take a lot of the guess work out of the equation and offer quick results
/ive seen plenty of first timers try and rush their crops expecting fast results

once she has a successful season or two under her belt then maybe she can run a mix of auto and regular plants
but first lets get her confidence up with a successful grow and see how she likes it

superbikes sound cool
i like the idea of taking something anyone can buy and then modding it
is it the traditional oval they race around or a more natural style track wiht lots of turns and straight aways?

im with you packfan'
we grow a lot of our own veggies and fruits
some of what we grow ends up as chicken food and nothing goes to waste
its healthier and i like knowing what goes into my food, plus like you said i just like growing stuff
we have often thought about moving away from the city
at least i do, mrsChicky is pretty mellow and just adapts to whatever

Yup, had a talk with the wife, she didn't realize what off grid means. She wants solar and battery banks to provide essentially unlimited power i may be able to do this with the new tesla batteries, and solar panels. I had to laugh a little bit. Her biggest concern is power for her flat iron. Lol

So hopefully we can find a compromise. Electricity is nice to have, most people couldn't imagine life without it. I am thinking a small hobby farm. Access to plenty of water is important. Can't find d much in the West. Found a ton of property in Tennessee and Kentucky, but I want to avoid the south. Idaho and montana ,Wyoming are viable choices.

Fiddynuts, superbikes are pretty awesome. I used to work with a guy who rode motox which is a crazy combo of road, dirt, and a mix of dirt and other jumps. Kind of allterrain motorcycle racing. It was pretty crazy.

Good morning packerfan.

Yep the ground is a great insulator very effective at doing a good job. I think once you get down a few feet the temp stays very stable weather it's 100 degrees out or 40 below zero.

Your right the earth provides for us and the more we work with nature the better off we all are. In this industrialized world the last few generations have forgotten much about how to get what we need from the earth. I'm glad people are starting to think more about where their food comes from these days and learning to work with Mother Nature.

Your garden sounds great. I'm sure your right that the crap they spray on commercial crops isn't good for anyone. Teaching your kids about the food they eat is a really good idea and to grow it is even better. Even a small garden taks commitment and hard work and those are some great lessons in life. But they get to see their hard work pay off and watch everything growing. Great sense of accomplishment in that.

I'm sure you guys will find the right spot when the time is right. We are so lucky to live in a country that is so vast. There is a perfect spot for all of us. There is a lot to Colorado outside of Denver but sometimes if one has had a bad experience it's hard to get over it. The Dakotas are very unpopulated but also have very long cold winters.

I'm with you on not wanting to be in a big city. Ben their done that and I like my peace and quiet too much.

Good afternoon pop_rocks.

Yes I think autos would perfect for the situation. I don't have time to be out there every day and they will be a lot less work. Less water too because they stay so short. They were easy indoors so they must be a breeze outside. I hope she enjoys learning and picks it up quickly. I think there is time for 2 runs of autos this year yet. That should give her a good taste of growing and if she likes it we can run whatever she wants next summer. I'm going to get some beans sprouting for her tonight and should have them in the ground in a couple weeks.

The superbike races were a great time yesterday. The weather was perfect low 80's and sunny with just a little breeze to keep you cool. Rode up with a couple friends and met a few more up there. We brought a few beverages and did some morning drinking. They have a world class cart track and rent karts for 20 bucks for a 10 min session. They are pretty fast for rental karts and lots of fun. I started right behind one of my buddy's and we battled back and fourth for most of the session. There is a wooded area on the outside of the carousel turn that is nice and in the shade. Many bowls were smoked there by us. This kind of roadracing is on road courses with left and right turns and straightaways. These bike go over 200 mph and oval courses would be very dangerous. Many road course tracks aren't even safe enough to race on. There has to be a lot of runoff at the corners so the rider (crashing) can slide to a stop. It's when there are obstacles that stop you is when you get heart or killed racing.

I'm glad you guys are growing a lot of food. I want to but I'm lazy and have many other excuses. I do buy local from the farmers markets when ever I can. I'm with you, being completely off the grid would be a big change for me but being somewhere to enjoy nature would be great. Mayb someday.

Good afternoon packerfan.

Off the grid is hard to even get ones head around. Like primitively camping forever. I don't know anyone who is truly off the grid but they are out there. Running water is nice too. When we go to the cabin in winter and the water is off we have to get it out of a hand pump and bring it in buckets. It's a lot of work and would probably take a lot of getting use to. Solar panels and batteries have come a long way but it would be a lifestyle change. And no indoor growing either.

I think a compromise is a great idea. I know many Californians don't think this but power is cheap and plentiful in many arias. I pay less than 14 cents a kWh. Also water is much more easy to come by in most of the country than in Cali. Around here many wells are only like 20 feet deep.
A hobby farm sounds great. If you can grow and preserve food you should be set. You can trade with other farmers to get the things you don't grow. I hope to be in a position to do something like that someday.

I'm a bike nut so I like just about all kinds of motorcycle racing. The motox sounds a lot like supermoto. In supermoto you take a motor cross bike and put 17" wheels on it and run road race tires. The tracks have dirt and asphalt sections. Most have some jumps too. Depending on how much of the track is dirt and the consistency of the dirt you cut more or less grooves in the tires by hand. That kind of racing is a lot of fun and was really popular when I lived in the SF Bay Area in the late 90's early 2000's. I built and worked on a lot of them in those few years.

Update and pics

Update and pics

Greetings friends.

Time for an update. The gorilla bubble #1-3 are doing well. They aren't stretching as much as other plants I've grown and I like that. I have a tendency to let them get a little too big in veg and then I get close on space when they stretch. They are healthy and happy. We are 2 weeks into bloom and they look like they are about ready to start stacking buds. They have settled into a one gallon per pot every three days watering and feed schedule. They seem to love the PBP nutes and the new bulb.

The cuttings I took a couple weeks or so back are looking good. I left one of the vents open on the dome last night and they looked happy this morning. I'll probably open the other one and then pull the dome off completely soon. Almost time to give them some light and get them growing.

Here is a side shot of the ones in flower tent. Looking branchy as hell to me. I took off a few lower shoots but not too many because they are allmost as tall as the tops.

I love the growth in the last week of the stretch when it looks like they are going to start stacking buds any day now.

And here is a group shot of them. Glad I decided to only grow 3, the tent is getting crowded already.

You are right they called it supermoto , I was wrong, been 4or 5 years. It's funny because my boss always had to have one of use drive the gang truck , the insurance company wouldn't approve him because he got a ticket for ridding a wheelie down the freeway. They didn't have a problem with dui's though

Gorilla bubble is going to be some fire. Looking good.

When we move I will do some outdoor plants, and that should be enough for me. I have a buddy who got popped with 16 lights. Almost 100 plants and he was stealing power. He moved to Idaho, sold his house, bought a house in idaho on 12 acres , now he's got a basement full and he's getting almost 4k a pound instead of 2k. Of course if he gets popped their he will be doing serious time. Here in California he had to pay 9 grand to the electric company, and that was it the popo didn't even take the plants.

14 cents a kilowatt is super cheap. I pay 41 cents a kilowatt now.

God afternoon packerfan.

Supermoto is lots of fun. It's one of the more affordable ways to go racing these days. Still not cheap you need to put a lot of cash into the bikes and one crash can turn a lot of expensive parts into junk. There really isn't any such thing as affordable racing these days. You need the best of everything to be competitive.

That makes sense to do a nice outdoor crop when you have the space. Just one crop a year and no having to worry about or care for plants the rest of the year. Sounds like a good plan.

That sucks about your buddy getting popped. I've heard you can get in big trouble steeling power and it sounds like they went easy on him. Around here 100 plants could get you a lot of time. I'm in a no med or rec state and its no joke if you get popped here. My bro got a couple years for just a couple P's in the 90's here. You are right you could get close to 4K per P here though. Some of my buddies use to get P's in NorCal for 22-2500 and drive here and get 35-4000 all day. Great work if you can get it and not let the risk make you paranoid all the time. P ices are trending lower but it will be a long time before they get low enough to take the profit out of it.

RE: the buds and rosin pics. - great looking flowers! They look really frosty and nice. Great work on those.
The rosin looks great. I'm a big fan of extractions and hashy things. I say a YouTube vid on rosin last year that looked kind of tedious. The guy was using a hair curling iron to press little buds and getting like a dab at a time off of them. It looked like it would take all day to get a 1g ball made. Do you press all of your lower buds? What do you use to make it? I'd be down to try it someday. I make bubble hash from my trimmings and lowers. I like it but wish more of the flavor of the strain would come through.

nice fade on those buds,p'fan
im esp diggin the hash picks
love hash!!
ive also been considering giving rosen a go
a friend of mine makes his wiht a hair iron and says its easy peezy
but he is into dabs, does it smoke as well on top of a bowl?
any tips for soemone pressing their first batch?

supermoto sounds awesome
i like the idea of dirt and asphalt racing surfaces
that really show skill and control over the bike
are the jumps like those mountains they hit in the supercross style racing?
i used to air it out on bmx and then mountain bikes, but never anything like the air you see now

the plants are looking nice and bushy, fiddy!
any plants of using a screen, or are you going to use stakes?
/love the jars in the background, brother!
thats what its all about

so where is rhodehazard?
probably out on another amazing get away to someplace awesome!

I use my losers and trim to make bubble hash and then I press the bubble. Those 2 little balls are almost 13 grams together. Only took18 grams of bubble to make 13 grams, damn fine return. It's better on a nail but you can too the bowl.I like pressing bubble because it comes out kinda shattery, buds can be somewhat sappy. I have never used a flatiron.I have a 1 ton press I got, kinda modified it with a longer handle and a ratchet strap to eliminate holding the handle down. Manuals are a pain in the ass, but I modified mine, so I can get quite a bit done in a shuttling. My buddy has a 5,000$ press at work and tyyhey can't figure out how to get good yields. It's a sasquatch press. It's all about experience .

Good morning pop_rocks.

Yes supermoto is a favorite of many racers who are pros at other disciplines of bike racing. It's great training. Like you said it shows a lot of skill and control over the bike. The traction level is constantly changing and you have to be very good to know how hard to push without pushing too hard and throwing it away. You need a really good feel for traction and it changes a little lap to lap when dirt gets dragged around the pavement sections.
The jumps on a supermoto track are not huge like supercross. Not doubles or triples or huge table tops or anything. Because supercross is in a relatively small stadium track they use the constant jumps, turn backs, and whoops to slow the speed some. Supermoto tracks are bigger and they let them go a bit faster. Supermoto jumps are still technically challenging with step ups and some you have to slow a lot to find the fast way through. That's one of the hard parts of racing, you have to know when to go slow to find the fastest line and make the best laps, it's counter intuitive sometimes to slow down for a jump but the less time you are in the air the quicker you can start accelerating again.

Yep I'm loving how the GBs are growing. For the first time I'm not worried about running out of head room in week 3. Starting to see some bud development this morning so should be looking good and I should get an idea of how these girls are going to bud up in a couple more weeks.
I'm still too chicke to use a screen but I am going to put bigger stakes in soon. I've read that the GBs need plenty of support. I have the short ones in now but will put the 4 footers in before they need them.
Yes the jars in the background remind me that I still need to take some bud pics of the lemon wookie and put up a smoke report. They have a nice cure to them now and are really good and potent. Everyone I puff with wants some. Best potency and flavor so far.

Your right we haven't heard from Rodehazrd latley. I think your right he must be on a get away. I think I remember a couple weeks back he was talking about heading to Indiana this month camping and hiking the red river gorge I think. I'm sure he's having a great time whatever he's doing.

Damn dude nice balls! I've not heard of using bubble to make rosin b fore. Looks like you've got a great method. Are you using heat as well or just pressure? I'd love to hear more about your mothod.
I've been neglecting my nail as of late and might try to make a little to take some dabs with. Sounds like you don't loose much with the yield of your method. I have a feeling that the quality of the bubble you put in makes a big difference with that. I think I gave my bubble technique down so I don't over chop or mix and it comes out pretty good quality. I don't have a press at home but I bet I could figure something out with a bottle jack and a couple plates. I've got a press at work I might be able to sneak in a round if I could do it quickly without my boss catching me. I do have a buddy with a 20T press he uses to press bearings into truck transmissions and rear ends.

My press is heated, I press bubble at 190 degrees, flower around 230 degrees. Rosin is the shit. No terp loss like you get with bho plus your not going to blow yourself up. Have you guys heard of ice wax? It's pretty awesome to. You take full melt bubble and spread it superthin, and you can dab it. It takes a little experimenting to get it perfect but it's very similar to rosin.

I use rosin bags, to keep the hash contained. Also I don't use the 25 micron bubble, it passes right through the rosin bags and then you get residue on your nail. I also press each bag twice, the second press is slightly sappy, but that makes it easier to collect. The first press is so shattery that it flies away when you collect it. I use nitrite gloves and collect it on my fingertip. With the gloves I can make the balls, just roll it around in the palm of your hand, then when I want to sell it I squish it flat and it gets a nice golden color. Damn all this rosin talk is making me want to dab it up

Good afternoon Packerfan.

Yes I did a small BHO run once and it tasted like burnt rubber. It's hard to find good gas that dosent have contaminants in it. And like you mentioned its dangerous.
I've not heard of ice wax but will do a search on it. Sounds like fun!
I've not heard of rosin bags either just pressing onto parchment paper. I'll do a search on those too. I'm guessing the waist stays in the bag and the good stuff comes through onto the paper? Sounds like fun and maybe I'll try it soon.
Yes this talk of dabs makes me want to bust out the nail after work and take some big milky hits.

you are right fiddy,
i recall rode' saying he was putting on some weight and ready to do some hiking

sounds like you ahve your technique down, packfan
i make a lot of bubble hash, next time i i will have to take some and try pressing it
not a fan of the bho, but the way you are doing it sounds pretty cool

looking foreward to seeing some pics of the lemon wookies
be sure and include the plant numbers
it was #4 that was a bit of a mutant, wasnt she?
cant wait to hear how she smokes

oh man, i am stuffed!
me and mrs chicky met up after work at our favorite mexican place for taco tuesday
has a couple chicken tacos, and some adobada tacos
mrs chickey also had a fish taco and i got us a rolled taco plate to share
the place was packed but we lucked into a booth so we just took our time and ate up!

im ready to blaze!

Good afternoon pop_rocks.

I hope Rodehazrd is up to no good and having a great time. If the weather in Indiana is as nice as it's been here for the last few days it's perfect camping weather for him. Not sure whare in the state that park is that he was going to but I'm only a couple hours away from north west Indiana here.

I'm going to do some more looking at this rosin too. I like the convenience of a concentrate for my ePen because it's so convenient and discreet. It's perfict in non 420 friendly and crowded places. Defenatly interested in making some.

Yes sorry about my laziness on the smoke report. I'll get it done this week. I'd recomend the strain to anyone who wants dank potent buds. It was fun to grow and is really nice to puff. The yield I'm convinced was not as good because of the bulb I was using. I have 3 or 4 more beans and will get those going in a few rounds when I sort through my GB clones and other bodhi strains. #4 was the mutant and her buds turned out to be the fluffier of the bunch and had less of the lemon skunk flavor, tasted kind of like the CC Girl Scout that I grew a few rounds back.

Man that sounds great. I've really been craving a Mexican feast latley. It's been too long. Lots of good Mexican around here I just need to go get some. I can make some good steak tacos and stuff at home but the beans, rice and other fixings I can't make quite as good as the good restaurants. Sounds like you guys got your Mexican fill. Great job on that!

So I've been reading th forums and linking around and found some interesting grows in the treetops. These guys climb up tall trees and build a platform to grow their pot plants. With this technique you can grow anywhere in the world there are trees. No one ever sees the plants because they are so well hidden and no one looks up into the trees anyway. Someone was saying that they got away with growing like that in Central Park in New York City for years. Really cool stuff.
