Larry has spit some nanners for some people I know, but I think it was manageable. Many strains do now. My buddy runs a forum gsc x sfv that always has a few seeds. I had a few on my black triangle. My old helper ran some bagseed that had hundreds on every bud. I had to break his spirit, a little. It took a while to get him to understand that less is more when it comes to feed. He never checked his ppms I checked them it was so high th meter wouldn't even read it. My estimates were 2500. Youngsters have to learn the hard way, not such a big deal when you don't pay the power bill

drying on the vine isnt something i do often but sometimes you get busy
/other times i just get lazy

that is great you have a friend who is going to give growing a shot!
does she have a secure site in mind?
im sure you will be a great resource and help her in every way you can
/outdoors isnt that much different and solid growing practices will always yield the best plants
keep us updated on how things go

that would suck to throw away that much food!
i mean i get they dont want people milking the deal, but to just leave all that good food behind would be a waste
sounds like a decent place tho, my kind of spot!
what is the rest of their menu like?

right on pakerfan!
stick around a bit and you will find this is a good group of guys
not much going on with me, i am working with a few gifts i was blessed with, by a friend here (he wants to remain anonymous), as well as an unknown cut a friend gave me last summer
glad to hear you are getting away from it all next week
i hear there is still snow at elevations and the scenery is amazing right now, esp up north

We are staying in so cal going to a a spot near lake arrowhead. Either way the mountains call to me. My baby brother is set on moving to Texas. I don't want to live somewhere so damn flat. I am digging this thread, seems more mellow than some. Thier has been a lot of drama around here lately.

Hey guys
I hate to hear the bad rap on swerve of cc I just started ten or his Larry's. They all cracked none above ground yet. I've grown his 818 a lot and have no complaints oh he says 800g square meter. I never saw over300. But we like it anyway.
In addition to that I cracked a fruity chronic juice and cotton candy cane.
I know Fiddy had Hermes on the cookies. But the Larry was seeded by cookies and they were fem the reg Larry I hope is clean . I hope to find some good in there. I'll be watching close for nanners.
My tubs are good for ten days when I water from top then fill the bottom one with another 3 gal. You lose a lot of headroom so it would be tight in a tent but it works well so far
Rodehazrd
I hope the rain stopped Fiddy and your well healed it's self.
Good evening Rodehazrd.

Don't worry too much about the Larrys I'm sure you'll have better luck than I had with the fem seeds. I didn't even know what to look for in a nanner and those plants got the new grower mistakes I made. We know there is fire in the clones he uses and I've heard plenty of people happy. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they grow out for you. Mine were potent and had great flavor, especially considering they were harvested really early.

Your tubs are a great idea and sounds like they are working well. i wonder if I could modify my pots so that I could put them on a shallow res with a wick to get an extra couple days when I go away. You got me thinking again.

You can use hempy buckets, they work fairly well with coco, and also vemiclite I belive. I have used them before with good results. You use a bucket with no holes you drill a hole about 2 inches up, them fill up with large chunky perilite it acts as a small reservoir. Also you don't have to worry about reabsorbing the run off. Their are a few good threads about hempy buckets here. I don't think it will give you more than 3 days depending on the root size.

Good morning pop_rocks.

My friend has a house on several acres that's kind of surrounded by farms. Some of it is wooded and there should be plenty of spaces to put a few plants in. It's unlikely there will be trespassers but I'm thinking we still try to hide them just in case. Not sure if they will go in the ground or in pots yet. There are deer on her property and plenty of other wildlife so we will have to keep them protected. Not sure what to expect so I think we will just get some going and learn as we go.

Yes wasting food sucks. I think they must have changed the rules to eliminate that. I doubt that most who try eat even half of it so too much waist for sure.
The place has good burgers and other sandwiches, BBQ (pulled pork, brisket, turkey), pizza, and prime rib on Saturday nights. Eat at the bar or at a table. Casual sports bar atmosphere.

Good morning packerfan.

Yes I've read threads on hempy buckets and coco. Also hempy beer cups with perlite for cloning. I'm sure I will try coco someday. But before I switch from soil to another medium I need to get the basics down and have a couple good guns in a row. I seem to make less mistakes every grow and my confidence is building. I can be a bit of a hesitent to try new things with growing but I think as I get more experience I will be more willing to step out of my comfy zone and experiment some. I know coco would give me the ability to use smaller pots and get faster growth.

So my 5 gallon soil pots go a good 3 days between waterings and Rodehazrd has me thinking about how to get more days out of them. The drain holes in the bottom are about as big around as a nickel. I was thinking that I could stuff wicks in them and set the pots on a shallow res to get an extra couple days. I would only use the wicks and res when I was going to be away and couldn't water. Maybe I'll experiment with an empty pot or one of my plants in veg to see if this is viable.

Nothing wrong with soil, I like soil grown bud has better flavor. Yield is dictated by the pot size with soil, I had a couple monsters in soil last run, personal headstash

Good afternoon packerfan.

Yes I decided to learn how to grow in soil because I've heard you can get the best flavors that way. Also it is more forgiving for a beginner like myself. Everything I grow is for headstash for my brother, mom ,dad and I. When I have extra I take care of a few buddies. If I start getting more yield I'll have more to share with friends.I am still learning how to use nutes and how much and when. With coco I believe you need to be more carful with the nutes and can under/over feed easily. Once I'm more comfortable with that it will be fun to experiment with some coco or other methods.

Coco is easy peasy, when your ready to try it I will, line you out on it. But yeah soil is tasty bud, most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference be fro. Soil and coco

like packerfan said, soil brings out the best flavors
its also the easiest way to get started and has a certain margin of error you wont find in other mediums
for people jsut starting out or those who dont want to invest a lot up front its def the way to go

im sure you could rig a simple wick system that would keep your babies watered for a few days

it sounds like your friend has a great place to grow
i would still hide the plants but she will have control over a lot of the factors you cant dictate in a true gorilla grow
once she has the sites planed out she should consider how she is going to water the plants, it might be worth it to run a hose out to the area if its far away from a water source
i would cover this up as best i could wiht some brush, but she wouldent have to conceil it like if she was growing in the wild
deer are easily detered with human or animal scent
/it might sounds gross but i would pee all around my plots when i grew in the canyons
also spreading dog hair around the plants helps
keep us posted on how she is doing!

so ready for the weekend,man!

Thanks bud. I'll defenatly try it sometime. I want to do a yogurt cup challenge and it looks like coco is a popular media for that.

Good afternoon pop_rocks.

Good flavor is what I'm all about. Before I started growing I took a look at various popular methods and settled on soil for the reasons you mentioned like nutrient and pH buffering. I really want to get comfortable with the one style before I start messing around with diffrent styles. Even a couple great runs in a row would be a great boost and might get me thinking about experimenting. Either that or it will be harder to change styles if I feel like I'm dialed in on soil because it is working for me.

You are right my friend has a nice spot in the country and I think we will be able to grow some great buds there. We have to get a look and find a good spot on her land where there is sun but some cover as well. We might be too far from the house to run a hose but not sure yet. I'm thinking putting them in the ground would be better for them and they wouldn't need as much watering that way. I know I can't keep a tomato plant in a pot without watering at least twice a day once we get into the summer. I remember you mentioning pissing all around the plants and dog hair when we were talking about a gorilla grow. She has a pretty furry dog so we should be able to get some good hair to use. I'll defenatly do updates for the grow in this thread.

Ready for the weekend is right. It's been a short week with having Monday off but it felt like a full week to me. I'll be heading up to the race track road America for the superbike races on Sunday so not much rest for me this weekend. The wife is in Alabama so I'm a bachelor for a week. Just Rufus and I that is. I hope you had a great week and your weekend rocks...Fiddy.

Irish spring soap keep animals away. I was going to do a to go cup challenge but I never got around to it
Good afternoon packerfan.

Irish spring is something I haven't heard of. Makes sense that stuff really stinks.

I wanted to do the last yogo challenge but I chickened out. Looking forward to the next one!

Good looking out thanks bud...Fiddy.

that yogurt cup challenge looks rad!
maybe one day, i too will give it a go
very creative and a great exercise in growing

i def like soil and you could just grow soil and not miss out
ive run several different types of gardens over the years
the fastest growth was wiht aeroponics, just huge plants that grew so fast it was almost like you could watch them grow
ive also run DWC, drip and ebb and flood tables
those methods def give you faster growth but are a lot of work
now that im just growing for the mrs and myself basically, i dont need to pull bumper crops
soil is almost too easy, esp once you get your technique down
stick with it brother, you are well on your way
/i am amazed at how far you have come fiddy in such a short time and enjoy watching your progress

have fun scouting the spots
look for good light penetration as well as sight lines
you dont have to totally hide the plants
just conceal them in a way so the they arent the first thing you see
if they are far from a water source, maybe place a large container near by that you can fill wiht water
be sure its soemthing you can cover
/water is heavy and large plants drink in a lot, your back will thank me later

what are super bikes?
are they like souped up street bikes or something else?
sounds like fun and i hope you have a great time
/are you riding your bike there?

the fair is in town and traffic was stupid heavy last nigth
it was opening day so hopefully the crowds will thin
went to my buddies house and watch that qardians of the galaxy movie, i actually liked it
he also got these VR glasses and it was a trip!!
even tho it still looks CG, it was awesome to be immersed in a virtual world

Good morning pop_rocks.

Yogurt cup looks like a lot of fun and I think I'm going to make an attempt in the next round. The plants get rootbound right away so watering seems to be the hardest part. I've seen most success with bottom watering. Some people use drippers. Getting creative and having fun is a prerequisite. Not sure if I'd try and auto flower or a photo at 12/12 from seed or clone.

I'm digging soil and I think I'm starting to get my methods down. I could see myself growing in soil for a long time. I don't need crazy huge yields and want to grow the highest quality that I can. My buds seem to get better tasting and more potent every grow.
That said I will want to experiment at least with coco to keep things interesting and try new things. The smaller pots might be a great thing for SOG or just more smaller plants. Some of the other hydro styles you mention sound like a lot of work. I've read about constantly having to measure and adjust pH and ppm of a res and it doesn't sound like fun. I don't need the faster veg growth since I'm always waiting for the flower tent to be ready for the next batch.

"/i am amazed at how far you have come fiddy in such a short time and enjoy watching your progress"
Thanks pop_rocks, that means a lot to me. You've been my online grow mentor since I first joined icmag on my first grow. Your advise and wisdom have been a big part of my success. I'm grateful for all of your help. My goal is and has been to learn to grow better buds than I can find and I'm getting close already. Now more than ever I want to grow the best. Not best as in elite clone only best but to get the best out of the genetics available to me. Only four complete grows in and it's just going to get better. I have a good feeling about these gorilla bubble plants.

No time for scouting out spots for the plants this weekend but I'll hit over to her house next week and pick some spots. We will also talk about things like watering and consider that when planting. The water res near the plants is a great idea. You are right, water is damn heavy and my friend is not young and strong. The more I think of it the more I think that just sticking with a couple rounds of autos would be best. They won't get too big and use as much water. Plus she will have buds in a couple months. I think it can be tricky to finish outdoor photoperiod plants up here b cause of wet falls and early frosts.

Superbike are a class of roadracing motorcycles. They are the highest level of bikes that aren't built just for racing. You have to start with a street bike and lots of modifications are allowed. They are very fast and fun to ride. Road America is a beautiful track and the racing is always great there. Th track is huge and very technical. I'm a bike racing nut so I never miss it. I often stay the weekend but since the wife is gone I have to just go for the day because I have to take care of Rufus. I'll be getting up early and riding up there with a few buddy's from work.

The fair sounds like fun but more traffic dosent. I use to love going to little fairs and festivals. Summer is fair season in wisco. There can be some good foods at them too.
Those VR glasses sound cool. I've not had the pleasure of trying them. I haven't been even tried the 3D glasses for all the tvs that have these days. I remember the cardboard ones with one red and one blue lense from the 80's. I bet they have come a long way since then.

I hope your weekend is off to a great start...Fiddy.

Hey fiddynuts if you dig a hole to put your water containers they will be discrete and the earth around them will keep it fairly cool. Get a 12 volt pump your life will be easier. You can use a cordless drill battery or battery from your vehicle. Thier was a guerilla thread here the guy put a water tank on his truck and would drive to his spots to water. Hauling water is no fun.
