Favourite GUITAR SOLOS !!!

HOW GOOD IS THE AXE! ...
I dont know exactly what it is about the guitar - the electric guitar in particular, but it just connects with my inner whatever just like a well made pizza does. I love the thing so much that half a decade or so ago I just had to get myself a guitar so I could crunch out my own riffs - just as most of us here at one stage decided to grow our own pot rather than relying on somebody elses. When I finish crunching out the riffs to just one song I feel like I'm on drugs or something, it's a definite high - anybody here who plays guitar (and I know there are many!) knows what I'm talking about!

But whether you play or not everybody surely has their own FAVOURITE guitar solos/riffs right !?!?

I don't give a shit about what you think are the BEST solos/riffs because this isnt a competition, I just wanna hear which ones are YOUR PERSONAL FAVES

Well here are some of mine, in no particular order but I will start out with the two that share my "all time favorite guitar solo" spot (they can't really be compared and I love them both equally yet for different reasons) .....

Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd (solo by Sir David Gilmour)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-MLxgkiPNg (solo at 4;45)
There are two awesome solos by Dave Gilmour in this but it's the final solo that is the creme de la creme, and often rated as the best guitar solo of all time. This particular video is from the Live PULSE dvd and features an extended second solo which makes it a particular favorite of mine.

Sweet Child o Mine by Guns n Roses (solo by Slash)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-AYAv0IoWI (solo at 2;50)
Slash is a self taught natural son of a gun with a unique and easily recognizable sound, there are so many riffs and solos of his that absolutely do it for me - the intro to Welcome To The Jungle is another particular fave, but surely Sweet Child o Mine's final solo has to be his finest!

Money For Nothing by Dire Straits (solo by Mark Knopfler)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNaKWXqXkhw (solo at 0;39)
How good is this! It's a rule in my office that when this song comes on the radio we all stop typing until the first guitar riff is over. The tone alone is unbelievable. It came out in 1984 when I was 4, and I still remember seeing it on TV for the first time thinking "how cool does that guitar sound!" and "wow how cool are those computer animated graphics!" - the video clip itself is a classic

All You Zombies by The Hooters
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8U3rO0GbEhI (solo at 3;00)
I think this is the only song of theirs that I've heard!? But it was released in ~1985 and I remember hearing it when I was very young and liking it back then, and these days I've got a lot of appreciation for the guitar solo in particular. Its also kinda amusing watching the vid clip because just before the guitarist starts his solo he has a cheesy 80s acting moment, laf. Damn i miss the 80s!

Angel Of Death by Slayer (solo by Kerry King)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqpNfxhVaG4 (solo at 1;40)
KFK - Kerry ****ing King is an absolute guitar god to myself and a lot of other people here
Slayer have always stayed true to themselves and their fans, they've never really changed - shit aint broken and they aren't fixing it! A classic solo ... here's a closeup of him playing it solo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swZ-W9gO-RM

Grace by Jeff Buckley
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siNsgbIWhAQ (starts straight away)
One of my all time fave accoustic solos, the song kicks off with it just abut straight away and is repeated a few times in the song. RIP Jeff

Wanted Dead Or Alive by Bon Jovi (solo by Richie Sambora)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k99h5aikc4g (solo at 2;25)
Before i started playing guitar I thought it was a wah pedal that was doing all the squealing in this solo but later found out that they're pinch harmonics, a very funky picking technique that i'm absolutely loving. Just add vibrato!

Thunderstruck by AC/DC (solo by Angus Young)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvoeeq-BH4w
Ummm ..... damn
Ok so its more a backing solo than a lead solo but whateva!

Big Log by Robert Plant
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZQL22xOmUM (solo at 0;45)
I have no explanation for this one lol, just listen

Hey Joe by Jimi (we're on a first name basis)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JecyHi0YAw4 (starts straight away)
Not exactly a solo but just a great intro, one of my personal fave Jimi songs

And on that note I'll shut up now and eagerly await some guitar solos from you trendsetters !
Cheers all, rock on and have a good weekend

I thought of Rage Against The Machine for pure ingenuity.....tom Morello is a genius.

YEP!...Tom Morello is the ONLY guitarist I give any credit to.

He makes a guitar sound like it's not a guitar....so since I'm not a fan of most generic band type insturments...he's my fav.

I'm not a fan of him beyond RATM tho.
