I just started to reply to a PM and decided to post it here instead. Peeps here throw expressions around all the time, and I forgot how long it took me to work things out at first myself, so here's a quick 101 on the term topping:
Toppping, and fimming, are ways to get more tops to the plant. At the point the plant grows 2 leaves and then moves on to grow another 2, you remove the point that it is moving on with. Inbetween the top and the leaf, a new top will grow, and since 2 leaves, 2 new tops appear, each with 2 possible new tops and the 1s they are moving on with, if your still following.
Topping can be done again and again creating more tops and reducing the lower "popcorn".
Fimming is where you only remove half of the top, thereby stimulating both side shoots to grow, but also allowing the central bud generate at least one new top itself. This is really tricky and it's ages since I've heard of anyone doing it deliberately on a regular basis.
I'll upload a few pics of the off topic offspring now as the timing of this question is perfect for a little pic parade.

Quick peek at how the tri H is doing.

Still not sexed offtopicus, still hoping he's a boy, but I didnt get to back cross with D & E though, which was the reason for growing them, and now I finally think I'll get some pollen to use, the pollen is due the same day the plants get harvested. so I blew that one.
Oh well I'll have to settle for crossing Tri H to the son of the above cured bud.
Should be some great plants. And they'll fit nicely into the scedule as the Rhinos will all have been sexed, all the males removed, and maybe the weakest female, we'll have to see what ratio I get.

Well, I'm pretty sure now that the G pollen didn't take with either the D or E plants. I guess much more than a couple of weeks is just too much unless you start lowering the temp that you keep it at. This means that the arranged marrages were a flop. Fingers crossed for the next one.

Well appreciate the tri while she looks like this.
coz now she doesnt.
I've been playing and i've done a job on the offtopicus that I'll cover in the next post, together with new tri pics but just to explain, I took the upper part of tri and cut it off. Then stripped the branches to make a cutting. This will be revegged, and repeated until i'm back on track with her relatives for a little incest. In the mean time, I'll be flowering offtopicus and vegging the rhinos. And harvesting D&E in 2 weeks or so. Here they are, E is slightly obscured by D

You can just see her in the top left peeking over D's shoulder.

Hi MGJ  good to see your still watching.
Packn doesnt need to watch now though, he seems to have formed a psychic link to the tri, and knows the gossip before I get a chance to post it. Yes Pack, I carved her some new legs. How did you know?
heres a pic of the carving, several rings near the base and 4 slits about 2mm long at the base of the stem. I always do this, didnt realise others did to.

Only worth a click to anyone really interested.
I cant guarantee this cutting will take, fingers crossed. I stuck it in some soil :joint:

Hi Doc,
Yeah the pollen I used to try to mate the D&E with G was too old. I should have put it in the fridge but the lesson turned out expensive. Its ok I have loads of both seed types and the Es are stable and the Ds have 2 phenos, this isnt my favourite one so I'm not that bothered just disapointed. The base from that tri is still growing and I have trimmed off the popcorn buds at the bottom leaving 2 layers of 3 branches budding in a .75(I think)gallon pot for now. Just a taster plant. I really want to play with the seeds of the offtopic pre G cross seeds as those buds really are the nicest. I'm not sure though if that is due to the fact the plant had so few of them to support it could put lots of goodness into each one or if its a good plant. The offspring which I'm growing now wont tell me as its been crossed and the cross offspring (nicknamed offtopicus) is growing with the structure of the black domina grandmother plant on the fathers side, so thats completley different from the orange bud structure of the grandfather and greatgrandfather on the mothers side that the mother grew with.
In the mean time I have all these rhinos running around here. fun oh fun.

Old pollen... is very hard to keep pollen over length, so i have found... Pollen should be used fresh off the plant/ie...keeping a male somewhere else... if not then should be stored dry in a cool place for no more then 3 weeks...my 2 cents

yeah, I used it fresh to create the H seeds (tri line) and offtopicus a week later. I kept it in a plastic dish on a shelf above the 400w light and then failed to pllinate D&E about a month later. Everything is possible until I've failed, then it's impossible. You know the score.

Time for a little photo report. :joint:
The top of D in various light.

Here's most of her

And here is the E plant leaning into the light.

Both of them from aboveish.
Ypi can see that D is still fairly happy, but E would have like some more nutes. But she is eating herself and has some more food stored in her leaves yet to use up. They were supposed to be done next week but they need a little longer yet. Possibly due to the irregular lighting times they've had.

Now that's a tough one. I never use scales and tend to guestimate by time ie. how long will these last me. But I'll give it a go. I'd say the E will be somewhare around 40-50 grams dry and the D if it fills in, around double that, maybe less. With nutes these would have been heavier, but I can't be arsed with them anymore. I really want to get this bare minimum thing down. In time I'd guess around 6 weeks. Prob 10 days left on E and I'd guess 17 ish on D.
Next shoot I'll put a bottle in there and you can guess for yourself. I'll get the kitchen scales out and see to the nearest ounce whats right.
