Endless sky 400w DWC

T

tex1969

I have used flora nova grow and bloom with tap water, the mix always ph'ed itself. Temps are dropping so I will do a dwc run myself, I think I will be running gen hydro bloom and micro following the example of Brainthor/upgradeshafted. I am definately going to watch this grow, since the next strain I have coming out of my seed stash is the criticalhash x endless sky from Fet.

ya, i am using tap water. I have two air pumps in my res, had em in there since the beggining. I'm not sure if thats what you're asking.

To post pics, you first have to upload them into your gallery. Under where you type a post, click the "go advanced button" then click "upload pics" from below the smileys on the right. The rest is pretty self explainitory. Once you have uploaded the pics into your gallery, to post, type your message, click "go advanced" and click on the pictures in your gallery to add them to your post.

Do you think Keeping my mothers in DWC is a good or bad idea?

why are my fan leaves still burning after dumping the res? does it take a while for them to respond? what i'm saying is that i dumped the res. replaced with plain tap. a day later added 1.5tsp/gal of FN Bloom. That was about 4 and 5 days ago, and my leaves are continuing to burn. Is that still from before? or is there something I need to do to correct it still?

The only problem is DWC invites explosive growth. Generally mothers are kept small. DWC roots can be trimmed but, I've never tried.

Improvements to your nute solution won't affect old, bad growth. Whatever was fried will stay fried. Look to new growth to check response to new nutes.

I was just gunna trim the shit out of the mothers. Can't you also take the top few nodes off without killing the plant? just cut off the top?

I am not sure but i think they were leaves that used to be completely fine, because I removed all the dead leaves, or ones that were more than 50% burned. It actually didn't seem that it has gotten worse tonight. I think I might be seeing the beggining of a cal/mag deficiency (rust spots) is that possible in tap water?

Sure but, that leaves the plant getting bigger and bigger. Eventually, you'll have to trim her back. Once the stalk thickens up, it takes significant leaf material to survive. Cut those back and you can kill the plant through energy deprivation. Should keep you going for a while, though. You can always plant those tips and grow new moms.

I'd consider getting you water tested. Your problems should've dissapeared by now. Rust spots sounds like potassium to me. Mag signs would be leaves curling up and purple stems. Consider taking pics and heading to the infirmary. In the meantime, have some charts.

Hey, Thanks for the charts, that is a huge resource. I'm still not sure what is going on with the plants though. Fan leaves are continuing to die. Drying up, turning brown. still sort of looks like the same nute burn. How do I test my water? I will get a pic tonight. The rust spots have spread too.

I think the rust spots that I mentioned in the above post are actually just leaves that are only moderately burned, as opposed to the other ones, which were fried. Anyway, it seems to have stopped or slowed down atleast. Here are some pics of the conditions since I took pics of it a 2 days ago. Shitty pics, i know.

Here are some pics that I took a few days ago of the plants in general, if there is even such a thing?

the HPS light really makes it hard to see anything, here are some better ones I took tonight

Not expecting any nominations for POTM with these, HAHAHA :muahaha:
(text book smiley usage)

Also, my clones seem to be dying. Leaves turning yellow and brown. I changed out the water (of both methods) ...yes, its happening to both, just some of them though, maybe they all came from the same plant, i'm not sure, i could find out, but not right now. Here are some pics I took to try to capture what i'm talking about. Only the first one really shows it, the rest are just where I missed with the camera and didn't get the affected clones in the frame, but I uploaded the pics, so might as well share em.

Woah, algrow, talk about stretch. What strain is that? Looks like a sativa? is that right?

I have a little more room than you it seems, You started those from clones right?

What are the coffee filters for?

Why don't you move your light up to the top of the cab? wouldn't that allow you more room?

If its not too much to ask, can I get a shot of those hinges you have on your door? Did you put those on or did they come on whatever that box is?

FreezerBoy: I been pondering... about keeping mothers in DWC and the explosive growth problem. Couldn't I overcome that by using Bushmaster or similar kelp product? Ever since I added it to my res. They havn't grown another inch. Same with my last grow with the bubba kush, only then i added it in too early and ended up with some 1 foot plants, killed my yeild.

Edit:

also, is burn suppost to start from the top of the plant? or bottom? because only the lower leaves are affected.

and deficientcies are top down?

am I understanding everyon correctly when I say that its not really worth it to buy the FN Veg nutes, just use the bloom ones during veg?

Text1969: Welcome, I didnt notice you at first. Thanks for joining. Where did you say you got those seeds from? I didnt understand your abbriviation.

Never tried Bushmaster or kelp. DWC certainly won't hurt your moms. At worst it will make them too healthy. If that's what you have to maintain Moms, then that's what you've got. How long have they been in there not growing?

Although there could be other factors, the yellowing/browning of leaves on clones is fairly common as the nutrients are leached from the leaves to grow roots. I would think that if it was a factor such as water, that you would see this occurring fairly uniformly in all the cuttings.

As I understand it: the clone starts off only being able to receive water through the leaves. As the roots start to develop, nutrients are leeched from the leaves to aid in development. This causes the leaves to discolor.

Trimming this dying plant tissue can be helpful as moisture + dying vegetation = excellent breeding ground for mold.

Thanks for the help quazi and freeze

Let me clarify. I don't currently have any mothers, I'm hoping I will if any of these clones root. I was thinking hydro for moms just because I think I've seen it done on here before, and I tried soil once and it didn't work out too well. I know more now than I did then, but I always heard Hydro was easier, especially if you are trying to correct something you messed up, just dump res and add new water.

In regards to your question about the bushmaster, for my last grow I added it when i switched to bloom. I wish I hadn't, but i was following instructions that came with my cab, which i have since abandon. They didn't grow another inch (vertically I should add) for the rest of the 10 weeks until harvest.

For my current grow, I added Bushmaster to my res about a week ago, because the tallest plant was about to run out of room. It hasn't gotten any taller since then.

Lots of people hate on bushmaster when I say that I've used it. I think If you dump your res and start with new water, they will start growing vertical again. The dude at the dro store said that kelp was the active ingredient.

Questions from previous post that still need answers:
also, is burn suppost to start from the top of the plant? or bottom? because only the lower leaves are affected.

and deficientcies are top down?

No I have never used clones there from seed I have 3 in there this time Lemon skunk,Cheese from greenhouse and Critical Plus from Dinafem.I could have moved the light up maybe 4 more inches but I lsted them and pulled the lower branches to one side and let the tops go to the other side then turn the light to hit all the tops. I say they are more sativa then Critical plus is more of a indca i have gron it before and will knock you down. The Coffee filter just have some small bud I was trying to dry a little faster in it some diesel ryder. The hinge came on the cab but you should be able to find them at lowes heres a link http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=67156-214-P5115-14&lpage=none
I would just go and look in the hardware dept where the cabint pulls are

Update:

Plants seem to be doing good. My clones in the bubble cloner have begun to root. How extensive do I let the roots get before I take them out of the bubbler? And then do I have to put them in a peat plug? or just right into hydroton?

Here are some pics of the plants, caught em with the lights off

Is this a Herm??? (sorry, best pic i could take, I suck with this camera)

I don't see hairs but I do believe I see the "grape cluster" effect that males exhibit. Hard to say with that pic but, I wouldn't trust that plant to live.

Everything else looks very nice :headbange

Personally, I move sprouts and clones into Hydroton netpots at the first sign of life. Same reason I avoid paper towels. If I never handle the roots I can't damage them.

it'll be around mid november for me. How'd your turn out. Thanks for checkin in.

So you don't use peat plugs or starter plugs or whatever? U use rockwool if I recall. I dont have any of that. What do you think I should do? How long can they stay in the bubble cloner for? I was thinking for the one that i'm going to make ther mother, wait till the roots get long and put strait into a net pot with hydroton, no peat plug. Or for the other ones, I was thinking take them out while the roots are still small, dip it in root growth hormone and put them into a peat plug in the humidity dome with the clones that I am trying to root with that other method. Any ideas?

Yeah, I'm a Rockwool starter cube guy. You can leave them in the bubbler as long as you like. That was the whole staring point of the NGB cab; From clone to harvest, why move them at all? Personally, I could never get it to work for clones so I reverted to Rockwool.

I've never been a fan of manhandling roots. I put them to bed asap. Whether it's to invite or prohibit growth. I use 4" cubes for Moms. Especially when started from clones, once roots hit the plastic of the E&F tub, they stop. I've kept Moms up to 3 years this way. Should I actually find a keeper, I'll probably want to learn about pruning roots as, I suspect, that's the best way to maintain Moms indefinitely.

Alright, Here is a little thing I put together that I've decided to try to keep a mother in, unless someone tells me it definitely won't work. But I don't see why it wouldnt.

Its a 2 gal bucket i got from HD. I cut a 3" hole in the lid, and put a 3" netpot in it. I then drilled a small whole in the side at the top, and ran an airhose through, with a small airstone on the end. It has a 5 gal. air pump on the other end.

Until the plants get taller, I can stack one bucket on top of another, so that the plant is closer to the lights

Now... a few questions.

Will the bucket, being white, let light in that will cause algae problems? should I pain the bucket black? or cover the outside with reflective aluminum tape?

Back to the clone dilema... Should I put rooted clones from bubble cloner into peat plugs while the roots are still very small, small enough to fit in the little whole of the plug, maybe dip it in some rooting gel for good measure....

Or, should I leave them in the bubble cloner until the roots get longer, (a few inches) and then just put them into the net pot with just hyrdoton. (the roots will have to be long enough to hang down through the bottom of the net pot into the water a few inches below.)

Suggestions please????

This is where they will be, in this mom cab i made

not very stealthy, just using plywood for the door right now until i figure something out. Light leakes though the edges because almost all plywood is warped.
