Elevator in the Forest

There was a special here in the states on ProMix with water chrystals already mixed in- $7 USD/2cf. and I stocked up...

I am somewhat regretting that move as I too, am getting jelly monsters pushing plants above the rims of the pots... I initially wetted the mix with very weak kelp solution thinking the chrystals would hold the kelp and slowly release it but it looks as if they just over-swelled with rainwater... I hope they work this time- I've used the chrystals before but perhaps tried to stretch them too far and the plants wanted for water...

I am not lugging gallons of water through the forest this year... The plants will just have to suffer :muahaha:

Sorry about the Cocoa Kush. We know Flo is an outdoor strain, I hope it gets very large and bushy for you... SkunkFlo- is that ToeJam??? You guys love the Cheese...

Looking good save for the round ring of white perlite surrounding the plants- spiff up that mulch/camo!

P.S. The pee has been very effective keeping the deer in check here- I keep it in half full gallon water jugs half buried in the ground at a 45 degree angle...

The Skunk X Flo isn't ToeJam - it's my own cross. I used a really, really fruity Skunk from Seedsman, and put both my Flo males on it - one purple sativa-leaning, and one very indica-leaning and green all over. I've only grown out one, from the indica male, and it was incredibly squat and indica-leaning physically, though the high was the same as the others - very up, and more potent than the pure skunk.

A few friends have grown out seeds from the other batch, and these are also what we have outdoors - should probably show some purpling too. Funnily enough, I'm not too bothered about the Cheese line - it's very tasty obviously, but I find that taste, high and structure to be quite generic for Britain now - been growing something like that for years now (see also the UK strains thread), and I'm a bit bored with them (though the Cheese X Yumboldt is much better, IMO than the pure Cheese) - I prefer more exotic strains, or my own crosses. This Funk is really potent, and far more interesting in flavour.

I've pulled out a large-ish OG Kush and a Goldfinger from the veg chamber tonight - I've decided to give them a try outdoors as well, if only to see what they look like grown unfettered. Would be interesting to see if the OG in particular is as stretchy outdoors as in - maybe not with more even lighting.

The Goldfinger was originally grown outdoors last summer, but my friend chickened out and chopped it down two weeks early, but it is right on the frost-line at 10-11 weeks. But I'm banking on my hillside avoiding the frost a few days longer than elsewhere, and it might make it. But even so, a 6-foot Goldfinger bush has to be worth growing, if only for the photos...:)

It's pissing it down again, which means I don't have to water again for weeks now! Incidentally, one plant was so swollen with the crystals yesterday that it was beginning to push out of the ground slightly, so had to scrape some away - it was leaking out of the ground like some evil jelly monster...:)

thats why you shouldnt use so much of it

p.s you plants are looking a little bit light in colour, maybe you should give them some N?

It might be the camera balancing - they look pretty normal in reality. They're all had some organic granules added at planting, so not sure if I could add any more N - the ground is largely composted bracken mulch. Some of these were grown a long time indoors at my friend's in smallish pots, which may account for some of the weird colors.

I'm going out again at the weekend, so will report back asap.

Sixth planting, 9th June

Sixth planting, 9th June

Three more went out today - a Leb 27, which I'm sure is female, though I don't have time to be absolutely certain - it was too big to stay indoors. Also the Goldfinger and OG Kush, just to see what happens! All the other plants were doing fine - today was incredibly good weather, and felt like California finally. Blinding sun, no cloud at all, amazingly good visibility, and a cooling breeze - perfect.

Some of the first-planted ones are surprisingly slow though - I think I may have over-done the water crystals, and they're actually preventing the roots from getting embedded further out. They look perfectly healthy and have lots of new leaves, but they look a little stunted that's all. No matter though - there's 30 plants in total so far, and I think we'll be OK.

I had to pinch out a few already, to stop them getting too tall too quickly - some are well over two feet, and growing rapidly. However, I had to pull out a lot of bracken stems today too, as they're really shooting up now - many, many kilos in weight. I just carried them down the hill, and hoofed them into the undergrowth, out of sight. So each plant now has it's own little 'bowl' of camouflage bracken looking downhill, whilst still getting full sun all day from the front - it's sweet.

The only job now remaining (apart from maybe planting one or two more), is to check the few suspect plants for male balls, and pull them if necessary. Other than that, just a weekly maintenance visit should be all that's required from now on. Phew...:)

Sorry for the lack of action here - I've been really busy on a job which kept me away from the forum - and my grow! I popped out last week for a quick look, as it was over two weeks since the last visit - all fine, and some plants growing so well they had to be topped again. Some are still taking a while to get going, but overall, excellent progress. It's rained a few times since then, so watering is definitely not required right now!

The most recent Leb 27 turned out to be male, so I pulled that, and replaced it with another, larger Cheese X Purple Afghan - I was running out of space at home. So that's still 30 in total, and I'll stop there I think. Some may not develop properly, but others definitely will, so I'm not too worried.

The biggest issue is bracken - obviously. I've had to pull a huge amount again to free up sunlight, but this time I think we should be good - it's mostly fully-grown now, so there shouldn't be much further blockage. Now we just have to pray for a sunny summer, with occasional rain, and a very dry spot around mid-October...:)

Pics as soon as possible...

Thanks folks - I'd rather have some Cali sun than British, but it's been pretty good weather here the last couple of weeks - four days blazing sun, then two days rain, etc. - perfect. Borrowed a camera now, so should be able to get some photos asap.

smokeymacpot - glad to hear it.

Had British Hempire visit yesterday and was sad to hear of his weather problems - constant rain for weeks. So it was nice to take him out to the country and get him some proper sunshine.

BTW, BH/GP - it's even better today - it really does look like Cali! No haze, hardly any clouds, and very warm...:)

I visited the two spots again today - all good, apart from more monstrous bracken growth - I spent an hour at least just pulling out large stems and throwing them into the undergrowth. But many of the plants are growing very well indeed, and all are healthy, more or less. Some look a touch light green, so I'll take up some more of the organic granules next time - I suspect the bracken around them is even more of a Nitrogen hog than cannabis!

I do have some photos, but the upload function has gone and broken again, so as soon as it's ready, I'll post them.

We had a sunny day yesterday, back to rain again today, I cannot wait till I can move somewhere with less rain! It really was nice to get out and about in the country for once, even though I live in the country myself, our weather is so unpredictable it's not often a good idea to go rambling around!

Bracken is a complete Nitrogen hog, which is one of the reaons it takes over entre hillsides.

If it's any consolation, it did pretty much rain for an entire week here too, though that's great for me, as most of the plants are getting large now, so the more the better.

I did just get wind of a possible 'problem' next weekend that might, just might, lead to more activity than usual in the area, with all the potential implications that might entail (discovery, basically). For security reasons, I can't go into any more detail, but I'll be keeping a close watch (from a safe distance) just in case.

Today was a typical day here - no sun at all, gray and overcast, frequent heavy rain showers. It's been like this since March!

Hope the security problem pans out okay, that would be a bummer!
