The closest I've gotten to Licorice Durban is a Mexican Sativa with very pronounced Licorice smell.

It was the best out of about 100 seedlings that I grew from Mexican "Mersh" seeds in the late 90's.

I wonder how similar genetically the Licorice Durban Sativa is, to the Licorice Mexican Sativa.

My stealth was not that great. There was a group of Hispanic Gentlemen camping nearby. Plus it was in a 5 gallon bucket. I didn't get a chance to enjoy the smoke.
Where was the mexican sativa that had the licorice point of origin?

There is a high probability that much of what is being called Durban Poison is not pure but is a hybrid with some Afghan genetics mixed in to shorten the flowering time.

I've grown several versions of Durban and while all of it was good I question the claims as being 100% sativa. All anyone has to go on are claims that usually can't be proven but are considered fact by many.

I'm skeptical when it comes to passed down stories in the cannabis world.

Durban is actually already a hybrid in SA.

Four main regions
Tamil Nadu , Andrah Praddesh in the south and in the Utter Praddesh and Bihar in the north .
Some of these states being known historically to grow the most

So quite a mix , need to do a lot of testing but it’s not available to the public in South Africa.

people say there is indica. but there are plants in certain regions of China, Maynmar and India too, which look more indica than tropical sativas, but they can be precursor genetics to both indica and sativa. so maybe south african genetics contain these precursor genetics too...

yep, people NEVER have brought Proove when they say "a Subtropical/Tropical Plant is Afghani Hybrid".
They claim something, without bringing evidence /proove really.

that doesent mean theyre wrong, i just stay neutral: i dont know..

Thats some good looking flower. I know its early, but have you sampled? If so, how is the smoke?

it is cured like one month and two weeks now... it is floral lemony and sweet. aftertaste gives some licorice candy, very nice.. the effect is above average potency, clear and no body, but it is not speedy for me or hype energy, no. it is happy laugh inducing weed, thats sure. great high but after 20 - 30 minutes its intensity fades off and it gets relaxing head... from that moment it is only more and more relaxing, but still no body effect, only relaxing head. duration around 2 or 3 hours..
