I don't know where you came up with that bit of nonsense. Viruses and nematodes CAN be passed through seeds.

I beat a horrible scene with 2 nasty sprays alternating, & heat and Aspirin. Not gonna muck it up with all sorts of other theories, like many here. But, after moving into a new rental, and setting up, I got hit for the second time in two different states. Some of my equipment may have carried pests crosscountry. But, I bought a few Plushberry clones, and they had em. Anyways, I went from 84 plants of which were packs of BOG SSK, and other valuable seeds, like irreplaceable Trip x BB, , as well as Triple D and PB clones. Down to 4 plants. 2 generations later now, I still preventatively spray in veg. I only kept the Trip D. I Still see 'em/it, but I have been winning the battle.
are you talking about bms or dudding plants? what are you spraying?what insect are you spraying for?I beat a horrible scene with 2 nasty sprays alternating, & heat and Aspirin. Undudding eh? I have yet to see a plant come out of a dud state. Id love a photo series on that!
Aspirin helped the plants fight off the effects of the toxins that broad mites, cyclamen mites, and Ditylenchus dipsaci inject into the plant, which is what causes the dudding. It boosts the plants immune system, and sometimes this is enough to bring you to harvest.
i've got a buddy with duds, i'ma have him try just aspirin.
retro had the answer years ago... LOL
so I have checked all my other plants cutting into the stem and have not found anymore microscopic worms so im sure it came from the seed itself even though most "breeders" say that virus/worms / parasites cannot be passed on through seeds ! EDIT I wished I could have sent a sample to the lab for testing !
I dont believe in "duds". this shit aint magic... there is a cause.
Eelworms (root knot nematodes) come in a couple types... Heterodera rostochiensis and Heterodera pallida are the majority. They require moist soil... they create eggs in cysts on the roots that can survive in the soil for up to 20 years. These are the swollen bodies, or cysts of the female eelworms and each contains up to 600 eggs.

Males remain worm-like and swim off into the soil when mature. Females grow and swell within the root to erupt through the root wall, whilst the head remains embedded in the root. After mating the body wall of the female starts to harden, forming the cyst... You shouldn't really be looking in stems at all... instead, you should be looking for pinhead sized white, yellow or brown cysts on the roots.
im not an expert but trying to piece some things together.. I would look at duding like the herpes virus.. some might carry it, show symptoms in stress or unusual circumstances, some might be full blown duds.. idk. it definitely seems that most people have a similar experience.. some plants affected or some parts of a plant affected, when all are actually infected or carrying it. so im guessing a virus spread by broads. or maybe by other bugs or just passed plant to plant when we swap around clones. who knows..I had duds and grew plants in the exact same media(I reused the coco)
And they turned out great.
Looking at my new cut and how its growing I keep thinking to myself it looks like a completely different strain.
I have no earthly idea what made my plants dud but im about as sure as one caan be that it wasnt environmental. If it were in the coco like the worms you suggest as a possible cause then you would think reusing the coco would net me the same result no matter what strain I planted that didnt happen either.
I would have tried asperin but that never came up while I had my dud, I tossed the cuts and have been fine ever since.
Maybe the simpleist answer is the easiest... maybe and im COMPLETELY GUESSING but just maybe NONE of those cuts were gg4 but some weak hybrid.
If it wasnt genetic or internal somehow then why the same results in so many environments?
I have no idea but thats a thought ive had more than once to myself.
For me I cant tell you what caused it. I can tell you it wasnt me my enviorment or my methodology.
Some sort of persistent toxin makes sense in my case havent got a clue what it was tho.
Besides a nightmare
Sorry I know not everyones duds are feom the sl cuts juat tossin out my personal experience. Maybe theres a nugget in there that could be useful
