It's a pretty loud fan at 12v. Have a look for the Delta FFB1212EHE. 190cfm. Now replaced by the louder, but 220cfm TFB1212GHE. Both of these fans are WAY too loud at 12v but are the best fans out there at 5 and 7 volts, the TFB being the better of the two due to its more modern design. There is also the 120x120x76mm Delta GFB1212VHW which moves the same air, looks like a proper turbine, and is 6dB quieter at 12v.

The Ystech FD1238 isnt far behind, is much quieter (and i do mean a LOT) at 12v, and still moves a very respectable 125-135 CFM dependant on model.

Thank you so much. You pretty much did all the research for me. The 125 sounds good to me.

I can't wait to put some LED's in a cab someday.

Starting to get a little more crowded as the second wave of clones hit the microSOG...

This clone is the superwomen of micros...broken early in flowering, it has stayed about 6" tall and is solid bud. No skunk smell off this SuperBud either, its more body shop cherry vanilla shampoo smell... Would be great in a PC case or the like.

Our efforts at growing in small cabinets will be greatly improved when LED lighting becomes affordable. That day shouldn't be too far off, based on a major advance made very recently in the way LED are manufactured.

I came across this advance in another thread a few weeks ago, but can't remember now where it was. I'll try to go find it and post it with an edit. The article suggested it would take about 2 years for the advancement to be implemented into the factories.

With the huge reduction in heat radiation that LED will bring, we won't need to have big fans to remove it from the little cabinets, and the age of stealth growing will have arrived. Or so it seems to this stoner.

Here is the link:

:rasta:

LED lights are currently an interesting option on these small cabs, where little watts are used. Spiral small CFLs are giving 65 lm/w mostly, some reach 75lm/w. There are many white LEDs (for people who dont want to experiment, just use more efficient lighting) giving 100lm/w and aditionally, directionally, wich strongly reduces light's losses due to reflection. It will allow to have the same light reaching the plants with near half watts installed.

And they can be driven from 12-24VDC very easily, so they are a great alternative at places as DrBud one

water and feed question

water and feed question

dr bud, when is the best feeding time lights on or off i have started a 4sf box simalar to yours and still have a few questions as i go.

LEDs are coming, but imo are a few years away from being genuinely useful for flowering. I've seen them used for veg with success though. I can't wait for them as solar powered micro grows should be possible and easy when LEDs do get good enough.

I have a bit of an issue i need to discuss with ya, drbud. I've just been given a bookcase 16"x12" footprint and 3'4" tall (the smallest IKEA billy bookcase). This has a door and is the most perfect growbox i've ever seen for my plan. I'm trying to minimise the wattage of my grow and maximise the stealth. I think I should be able to yield enough for me out of it, and certainly when I get it dialled in.

When i look at your cabin grow, it looks to me like approximately 105w/sqft of CFL lighting does it. I had planned to fit 4x30w spirals to my box for approx 8200lumen.

The Phillips City Master CDO-TT (2800k) ceramic metal halide lamp which is supposed to be VASTLY superior to HPS for growing in terms of spectrum and not dumping a load of its output in the not so useful yellow band, in a 70w flavour is approx. 6500lm on a regular magnetic ballast. HID lamps on electronic ballasts produce more lumens, a typical HPS going from 6300lm to 7100. The CDO-TT is said to give similar results, from my research.

Do you think I could swap out the 4x30w CFL for 1x70w electronic ballasted CDO-TT in my slightly over a square foot box? It seems to me it could work, with the intensity of HIDs and the high quality of CMH light. If so, would I need to change anything about your cabin grow method? or would it work just the same?

I could always stick the 70w in with one 30w CFL which would actually give 1000ish more lumens than 4x30w CFL.. but i'd prefer to run just the 70 if possible as i'm trying to produce a grow on the absolute minimum wattage possible to supply my smoke.. If possible I want to keep the entire operation below 150w peak at normal running..

What do you think? I'll talk to yas more about it in chat if you like. This could be cool or i could be, like the demented doggie, barking up entirely the wrong tree and being a bit noobish i can't tell lol :D

There has been alot of good info on this thread. It's just too bad so many people wanted argue over yields when most people reading this thread are looking for something that WORKS and less considered about yields. DrBudGreengenes is a great human for providing info like this.

The value I have taken from Dr Bud's posts have nothing to do with yield, but are about safety, security, and growing within the restrictions of micro space requirements.

Besides, yield in my view is only a primary concern of a for-profit grower. If you can grow enough to cover your personal needs with an energy bill that you can handle, what does GPW matter really? Example: I grow a vegetable garden....Do I really care what my yield is per acre as long as I have enough good eats for my own table? Are four more carrots per plot going to make that much of a difference to the pleasure I get from eating my own veggies?

Speaking of which... its time for dinner..

Nice ones Blackfoot, those are some scrumdiddly umptious looking nuggets on a stick you have there. Did you get a taste of scissor hash from the trim?

i feel that as long as you are growing tasty, potent buds for cheaper than you could buy them on the street then your venture is a success.

Most growers who are using your method constantly keep their CFLs about 2-3 inches away from their plants, and no one has really matched your yield yet. Is it because they aren't letting their plants stretch? I'm fairly certain that everyone here that is making grow logs using your method believe that they need to always keep the lights so close, and I think it's greatly effecting their yield.

How far away from the lights are your plants when they are finished being elevated for 7-10 days?

damn, I need a blunt.

Thats a damn good point... Doc is that the case?

check her out thats the one I asked you about in pm if I could flower her again so I waited 1 more day tossed her in in I believe I hit her sweet spot eh?

Hey doc, I'm a little confused. Your lights are raised at about 27'' if I recall correctly. For the first 7-10 days your clones are in the flowering chamber, they are raised about 5 inches, and your bottles are about 6 inches. Your plant is around 3 inches when you first put it into the box. So, that means that your plants are around 13 inches away from the lights(raised 5 inches when they first go in, pots are about 6 inches, and plants are about 3 inches.. that's 14 inches tall, and about 13 inches away from the lights). It's a general rule that CFLs are only effective when they are 6 inches or less from the plant, but your plants(when they first go in) are about 13 inches away from the lights. How are the CFLs still effective? I only ask because I don't like to blindly follow someone.

Well this is "Day 1 in 12/12" and they are 6"s from the light ..... :joint:

This next pic shows Gurlz from 1 day to 4 weeks. Grown at 16 per Sq.Ft under CFL's....... :yoinks:

These ladies have 2 weeks to go.... :smoke:
