DIY Aero Cloner the EZ-Cloner Replica in 10 Easy Steps!

Just found a 24 hour mechanical timer at Harbor freight for $5.00 It will run 15 min on 15 min off. I just pluged it in. My water temps are around 83 f so I hope the timer helps lower the temp. no roots yet but only day three. the smallest of a bump starting on the very tip :)

Be careful with that on a cloner. 15 minutes is a LONG ass time for stems to be without water. If it does work pls report back..:thank you:

The timer works awsome. stems are still dripin wet when timer kicks on :).

Roots starting at 5 days on 3 plants, roots on 90% at 7 days.
Timer has roots fater than pump on 24/7 witch took 13 days and a water change to show roots.
I use enough plain RO water to cover the pump and about 1/4 tsp of superthrive in water.
without superthrive roots are thin
with superthrive roots fat and fast!!
Actually works so good my veg room is overflowing. I can handle about 20 plants in my flower room and I have about 30 g-13 and ak-47 just waintin another 2 or 3 weeks.
What do yall do with your overflow plants. I don't have the hart to kill em. Thinking about outside but I think its too late for that.

Harbor frieght also has 265gph pumps for $14 that even come with little parts for a fountain umbrella. There stuff is from china but it seems to work fine and at that price you can buy a few for back up.

hmm.. good to know. I've often kicked around the idea of trying different cycle times on my cloner as well wondering if it speeds up roots or not. I always just run one min on and 5 off.

& days is fast for clones to pop full roots so I may extend it and see for myself.

I need timer help...can someone post the Make and Model of the 1 minute on 5 minutes off and/or the 15 minutes on/off timer? Looking on amazon, thank you.

Leave your pump on. You don't need a timer.

Thank you

The timer on/off to control heat issues isn't well thought out and it seems to be parking itself into ganja growing hearsay folklore.

Turning a motor on and off would not lower temperature. You hearsayers can try to argue that turning on and off slows the temperature increase.

If you have heat issues use a chiller or an air conditioner.

Really? Thats your answer? Use a chiller or air conditioner instead of a cycle timer for a few gallons of water?

A cycle timer DOES lower the temp. Why would you run a chiller on a cloner when this works?

For me, I run it for two reasons. For the first three or so days I leave the pump on to PURPOSEFULLY raise the temp to encourage faster rooting. (similar to popping seeds with a heat mat). After three/four days I put it on a cycle timer to LOWER the temp as well as discourage damping off and or rot.

I have a water thermometer in there at all times. Its pretty easy to tell how the water is effected by the pump.

Let's here the numbers....since you have a thermometer.

What is your temperature when you start cycling your pump. How many degrees does the temperature drop between cycles.

I have an 18 gallon set up please explain how the temperature will LOWER by not adding heat for a one to five minute span.

You may have revolutionized physics

15 min on / 15 min off with a 5 dollar harbor freight timer lowers my water temp from 84 with pump on 24/7 to 73-74 with the timer.

buy one and see for yourself
Then check out headyblunts air lift ACT brewer, your plants will explode with growth and virgorrrr:)

Sorry I didn't see this earlier.. how is it that hard for you to understand? You really feel the need to be a smart ass about this?

And yes, my water is around 68F starting off, and its around 80F when the pump runs non stop. I run my cycle timer at 60sec on and 5 min off. If its that hard for you to realize that less heat will be added to the water running a pump 80% less time then I don't know what to tell you.

just a sec, this is gonna require a bowl...

ah lovely, all ready to go, are you? whether it be because you're sick of poor results or slowness or humidity domes, or because you wanna start the right way the first time, i understand your need for roots, so here is a simple step-by-step guide to building what is known as an Aero Cloner and been popularized as the expensive EZ-Cloner.

Parts List:

350GPH Danner Supreme Mag-Drive Utility Pump Model 3 (Model 5 500GPH for larger units)

35x 2inch Neoprene Insert Collars (only 50cents a pop in the 35x bag ;)

12x Aeroponic Misters (EZ-Cloner replacement sprayers, Mister 320 etc)

1x Rubbermaid Roughneck 31gal Tub or equivalent

Schedule 40 PVC
1x 1/2" Pipe in length
1x 1/2" Female Connector
4x 1/2" Elbows
3x 1/2" Tees

TOOLS

Drill
2" Holesaw
11/32 Drill Bit (or 10/32 tap)
Glue Gun + Glue (or 2" netpots)
Composite Hacksaw (something to cut PVC)

Have you pulled these things out of your back pocket yet? Vundeba, let's begin constructing...

1. Screw the 1/2" Female PVC onto the pump output...
View Image

2. Cut PVC pipe for a length that ends up at least 6" below the top of the tub. Remember, you can always cut more off later, so don't cut too short. Clean all ends of plastic, and stick the pipe in the pump's fitting.

3. Stick 1/2" Tee on the pipe...

4. Cut 2 equal lengths to go the long distance of the tub...
View Image

5. Put the 2 last Tees on the ends...
View Image

6. Cut 4 equal length short pieces and stick in Tees after cleaned...
View Image

7. Attach the 4 elbows...
View Image

8. Measure and Cut 2 more equal length pieces to fit your rectangle, clean, and check to see how your barebones fits together...
View Image

9. Now take apart the PVC and with an 11/32 drill bit (or 10/32 tap) drill holes for the sprayers in the pipes, and screw in the misters. sealing these isn't really necessary, also your pvc should fit together tightly enough not to need sealing either.

As you can see that 18gal tub was a bit small, so i got the 31gal with plenty of space. Longer PVC, more misters, and a bigger pump and tub will allow you a bigger cloner, simple as that, design remains the same...

10. The Lid... drill the 2" holes you need. Clean the stray plastic off the holes without enlarging them, do no cut the plastic further yknow. Here you can either drop in 2" netpots, or what i had to do on some is to hot glue around the outside of the hole so the neoprene collars stuck in nicely, no netpot to fall in or for roots to get tangled in, or to buy ;) note: experience has shown users to cut the bottom half of netpots off so roots are not damaged on removal...

Voila!

View Image

keep an eye on temps, they should be 68-78, 75F optimal. the pump keeps my temps perfect, but i suppose if it gets cold an aquarium heater would just be needed... but this...
View Image
means this...
View Image
you can see net pot or not makes no difference... and really temps are not a worry like in bubblecloning ugh... just ease here... warmer temps at the start n cooler temps after roots show is optimal, but any in the range will get ya success, and the pump should put the temp in a perfect spot!

i truly hope this saves folks the money that ez-cloners would steal from them, or makes roots possible, or both, just know that you can always do it yourself. peace n green thumbs all. :joint:
Thanks for the time you took to explain this to me. Unforgettably I bought a turbo cloner I embarrassed to admit, because i'm an experienced plumbing contractor. I had terrible luck with my cloner for a variety of reason but My question to you is HOW do you transition to a soil medium once the roots appear? do you wait for the roots to get really long or do you transition to soil when the roots 1st begin to show?

So petsmart seems to have destroyed their air pump selection.
Wheres a nice and reliable, 100gph-250gph air pump,
which doesnt make your water boil?

Yes, I'm making a smaller model.
Thanks and beautiful cloner.
