Bush first aid kit, carry a maxi pad great for absorbing the blood apply some crazy glue to the cleansed skin - be careful. A doctor is the best or a vet, Sam Losco may still be in business??

hey guys i'm pretty sure it's gonna be fine. had almost the same problem a little while back drinkin jack and punching a window...this wound is just a bit deeper and bigger.

basically shoveled a bunch of "new skin" on it and squeezed it until it looked like just a slice in the thumb and used butterfly bandages. wrapped it in gauze and called it a day.

thanks for all the input..especially you yukon, as that is how I usually go about my wounds. just never had one this bad.

thanks all!!

I know it may sound stupid but put super glue on it that will keep it from opening up and bleeding then after the glue has dried (no more bleeding) take some pain pills cause every time your heart beats its gonna throb, peace:

i got a deep cut on the side of my wrist really deep a while ago from punching threw a window but i was too drunk to go to the ER and i just cleaned it up and put polysporin on it and kept it closed as tight as possible ( u could see fat n stuff it was so deep ) , then wrapped it with a tension bandage . Every day i would repeat and gradually the cut got smaller and smaller untill it was one solid scar , so i got a pretty nasty scar but honestly it doesnt bother me at all

Pull it together with the butterfly bandage, take the antibiotics, keep it clean and let it heal. You dont want to keep changing the butterfly bandage because its holding the cut closed. Clean it good, put on the butterfly bandage and then wrap it in clean gauze and tape it. That should be good for a few days until it starts scarring. You want to keep an eye out for infection though....

TOKEN- Stiches will only be effective w/in 6 hours or so of injury, so that's out anyways. Amoxicillin is for bacterial infections that have already begun. Think ear infections. Taking antibiotics willy-nilly is never a good idea. Especially if you are taking it randomly, and do not take the entire prescribed course. At this point I would keep an eye for infection, wash it daily with soap and water. Continuing to put peroxide on the wound is only going to dry it out, and lead to worse scarring.

If the wound is still open at all, I would absolutely go to the store and get some Crazee Glue, or whatever the chicks use on their nails. Go ahead an drip it into the wound (it shouldn't even sting) and then close the wound up on it, and hold in place until the superglue dries. If you went to the emergency room, they would give you derma bond, and charge you several hundred bucks. Big surprise, it doesn't even work as well as the crazee glue. From there, just make sure it gets air occasionally, and if you want, a saline finger bath.

The biggest risk at this point is an infection, and should that happen, and you need real antibiotics, the amoxicillin thing might be a problem, as they only want you on one at a time, generally. (unless they are meant to be co-prescribed for better efficacy). Keep it super glued, well bandaged, and clean, and you should be fine.

[EDIT: Can't believe I forgot to tell you to get neosporin. ASAP. Topical antibiotic and they make it in a pain relief formula. Will go miles to keeping that infection away]

jj, how you described it is how I have itman. I've changed bandages about 3 times in since last friday, only because I've been working and a lot of people I know that I work with have been helping me out...but now I have off until tuesday so I have it squeezed tight, new skin dripped on top, butterfly bandages, taped down...a leak obsorbing bangage ontop...taped...with gauze wrapped around.. gonna keep it on until tuesday morningn to see how it is...makes me queezy everytime I look at it...it's gross.

definately looks like an axe smashed into the fat in my thumb...BLEH

token...i have newskin and superglue....i def. prefer superglue, but the newskin i think has antiseptic (shouldent need the added antiseptic tho if its clean).

the superglue can hold for a cpl. days where the newskin i'm usually lucky to get half a day out of it.

from what I noticed in the last few days new skin sucks. it only leaves a thin layer of film on the wound whne I need much more than that. I heard crazy glue works but I'm kind of hesitant because I dont know of what chemicals (harmful or not) are in them.

that's why I squeezed the wound shut...put the "new skin" on it, then butterfly bandaged it. wrapped it up and called it a day.

if it isnt healing up by tuesday crazee glue is probably gonna be the way to go.

Thanks for all the help guys...taking it all into perspective, and leaving all ideas open...

crazy glue will be the way to go.

it's no different than new skin other than the antiseptic.....it wont hurt you ...i've used it on wounds for years.....(and i'm not too fuked up.... lol)

seriously though it wont hurt ya..

heres a tip tho:

squeeze sum of it out first onto a piece of plastic and use something like a toothpick or paper clip to apply it....dont try to apply it from the container.

Token- Stop effing around and go get the crazy glue now. Take your gimp-ass hand, slap it up on your steering wheel, and navigate your vehicle to the local convenience store. The longer you go without it, the greater your risk of infection. As far as chemicals go, there is nothing in nail glue that is not in derma bond. There is nothing in there that will make this any worse, barring some kind of allergic reaction. Taking unprescribed antibiotics has WAY more, and more serious, potential side effects.

This is already a very half-assed operation as it stands. Go get that shit, make sure the wound is clean- do this by GENTLY cleaning with an antibiotic soap, and then rinse it in a saline bath. Then, apply the super glue like you did the derma bond, but fer chrissakes, be careful you don't glue your good hand to the bad one.

Then you look for any extra redness, inflamed tenderness, etc. In a week or so, you may see that a bit of yellow gunk is in the corner of the healing cut, where the glue will be peeling away. This will prolly be in the shower, as the heat will help it along. A little bit is normal, not a huge deal, but does signify a slight infection. Basically, your white blood cells have been working overtime. it'll be a finger zit... you'll see what I mean.

When you cook as much a I do, you are bound to maim yourself occasionally. I have been to the ER, and it took way longer, cost way more, and was way less effective than my own home surgery regiment. That said, my advice to others is always- go to a doctor if looking at it makes you want to puke. Unless you are a girly-man. In which case, you'll be fine, unless you die. A girly death.

I probably do cook as much as you do (8 hours a day, 6 days a week) and I cant get into a car and drive to my nearest convenient store as I just wrecked my car less than a week ago...(hence the reason I have no money to get stitches. my friends a nurse and she said you dont want to use superglue...which is why I'm hesitant...but am now leaning towards it. because it doesnt seem like it's getting better.

Take it easy H&P. as I'm sure I'll be pulling through on your answer in the days to come.

the new skin will seep into spots that will affect healing.

thats why super glue is better...you can bond the surface...use the butterfly bandages if u need to, get it fairly tight, then superglue the seam.
