Application of vitamin B-1 (thiamine) to root systems of whole plants does not stimulate root growth.I agree, vitamins aren't able to be taken up by the root because of the casparian strip, the molecules are too large to enter the cell wall for a symplastic pathway. Vitamins could potentially benefit colonies of soil micro-organisms which could result in benefits to support plant health. Some people swear by superthrive, the old timers at the local garden center recommend using it.
