Deep Stoner Thoughts

I wonder if everyone is as desensitized about everything as I am.

Short of an alien space craft landing in central park, nothing really shocks me anymore.

Yeah, media and movies are made to have that impact on us..
And with all the sci-fi crap i see in tv shows.. aliens or zombies would not shock me at all if they were coming for real.

if you are blind, how can you see colors to know what they are? I can understand if one had lost their sight after a few years, you would have a basis to work from, but blind from birth?

I dont know.. found this on the topic however.

Effects of a hallucinogenic agent in totally blind subjects. (http://archopht.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=627109)

A previous study demonstrated that lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) induced measurable changes in human retinal function while visual hallucinations and illusions were being experienced.1 The changes were evident in both dark-adaptation and electroretinographic studies and were interpreted as mildly hypoxic or toxic retinal effects of LSD. In the dark-adaptation curve, LSD delayed the rod-cone break and elevated the entire rod threshold. In the electroretinogram (ERG), the drug increased the scotopic bwave amplitudes and in some subjects also increased the scotopic a-wave amplitudes.

Because hallucinations and illusions were reported only when measurable ERG and dark-adaptation changes occurred, a possible retinal role in the induction of hallucinations was considered. Consequently, the present study was undertaken to clarify the role of a functioning retina in the induction of LSD-induced visual changes by studying subjects with total blindness (no light perception) and, insofar as could be determined, normal central nervous system

14/20 non-congenitally blind (lost sight after birth) experienced visual hallucinations. 7/14 hallucinated in color, 7/14 in black and white. 0/4 congenitally blind (blind since birth) experienced visual hallucinations. There was also a higher incidence of auditory, tactile, gustatory, and olfactory hallucinations in both the non-congenital and congenital groups compared to sighted people. sekio

How do you explain/describe the colors you saw on your trip. I ask the question because for someone who has seen colors there whole life this is a almost impossible question to answer and I have always wondered if a blind person could see a color how they would describe it. Oh and what musical instrument do you play?

I posted an answer to this earlier today, but I can't seem to find it. For some reason, when I post a bunch of stuff, some of it doesn't stay when I shut down and come back. Maybe it's just my dumbass showing. I'll try it again. In my trips, (various antheogins), I have seen what I believe to be red, which, like someone here so beautifully put it, was like standing too close to a big fire. I believe orange to be kind of like this as well, but with more warmth. I've seen what I call electric lights, probably yello's or maybe even purple. Also, bright blue's. However, I feel blue, is much more mello in nature. I do understand about tones and shades, which much like in the world of sound, where tones can vary even within the range of the same instrument. Green's I think of as lush and thick. I know it's trite to say, but, they're nature tones. I imagine the shades to be like diferent plants. I'm curious about diferences, for example between purple, scarlet and violet. What about between indigo and blue?

Keep in mind not all blindness involves the person getting no information thru their eyes. Some people are only legally blind but can still sense things like colors, shapes, movement, etc.

Now someone totally blind from birth that only gets blackness from their eyes then yeah I doubt they would see colors either as they have nothing in memory to represent colors visually and therefore nothing for the LSD to alter the perception of.

Where it could get interesting though is that most people are aware that when one sense is lost the others grow stronger to try to offset the loss of the one sense. Therefore it is possible for a person to pick up on things most others do not and this under the influence of LSD could potentially allow the blind person to perhaps taste, feel or smell color. :) Depending on how the LSD causes the blind individual to perceive those enhanced sensations.

This is more of a deep stoner question,,, but how do you nicely ask your wife/woman/girlfriend to please shut up,
when they're just babbling on about nothing, and not get them upset or pissed off, or get "the look", and still get some lovin' that night?

the american version only involves a turban and a wurlitzer, but it involves a turban and a wurlitzer.

I just prick up my ears and say"Listen! Did you hear that?"
That gets a few seconds,.:)
But, if she's really wound up I say, "Wait! There it is again."
Then I can get up and wander off, supposedly tracking down an odd noise.

If they're really high strung, you could probably get them to wander off looking for the noise, leaving you with the couch and remote (the natural order of things, after all). If she wanders into the kitchen, have her grab you a beer.

I used to do that when I was young.. I'd sit down with my dinner and realise I forgot a drink- so I'd say "was that the door?" Someone would go out, find out no one there and I'd shout " grab me a drink while you're there"
