That is what the bailout bill does. They can gat a fast action "loan", send their people home, get their bidness expenses covered, and all that "debt" goes away poof when they re-open and keep the employees.

Free money. Watch supermarkets and gas stations follow suit.

Actually this virus is so infectious that it is very surprising that it did not spread before this year. People have been eating bats and squirrel brains for a LONG time.

And just now it starts spreading ?
stupid post. I think you should probably read up a bit about viruses, how they mutate etc before you say silly statements and quote me. good example would be Spanish flu or the plague or whatever. even ebola came from fruit bats which have been eaten since men could catch them!.. but still didn't have an ebola outbreak until a few years back. so your method of thinking doesn't really prove anything.

I just saw on Canadian news that Trump is thinking of putting U.S.troops at the Canadian border to stop us Canadians from illegal crossings. As a Canadian I can tell you that we have absolutely no desire to cross over, be it legally or illegally. The U.S. is a LOT worse off than us right now.
LOL at Trump.

it's a make-work program

so that Trump can tell himself he's "doing something"

which he may just mention at the daily sort of press conference

while Americans are doing a half-assed quarantine

doing 80% of the work of a quarantine, but only getting 50% of the benefit

because the government is afraid to admit they don't have enough masks.

Cuomo to Feds: ‘You Pick the People Who Are Going to Die’; WH Tells Those Recently in NYC to Self-Quarantine
The U.S. government has sent supplies to New York, including a recent shipment of 400 ventilators. Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants to know, "What are we going to do with 400 ventilators when we need 30,000?"

UPDATE: NY COVID-19 Cases Doubling Every 3 Days; 50% of All New U.S. Cases Coming From Metro Area, Feds Say

Gov. Andrew Cuomo sounded his loudest alarm yet on New York's coronavirus crisis Tuesday, warning the curve was showing no signs of flattening out and was in fact rising faster and more dangerously than projected. He said last week that peak infection was 45 days out; now, he says, the state may see it in two weeks.

It looks like the wave will be bigger, and crash harder, than expected. "We have exhausted every option available to us," Cuomo said Tuesday, declaring with unprecedented urgency that New York needs help now — and far more than it has gotten to date.

Jobless claims soar past 3 million to record high
PUBLISHED THU, MAR 26 2020 8:31 AM EDT

The number shatters the Great Recession peak of 665,000 in March 2009 and the all-time mark of 695,000 in October 1982.
Claims had been expected to hit a record 1.5 million for the week, according to economists surveyed by Dow Jones.

Consensus estimates from economists surveyed by Dow Jones showed an expectation for 1.5 million new claims, though individual forecasts on Wall Street had been anticipating a much higher number. The surge comes amid a crippling slowdown brought on by the coronavirus crisis.

SUPERMARKET THROWS OUT $35,000 OF FOOD AFTER CUSTOMER DELIBERATELY COUGHS ON IT

A. Pennsylvania supermarket says it had to throw out tens of thousands of dollars worth of food after a woman purposely coughed on items across the store.

Joe Fasula, co-owner of Gerrity's Supermarket, described how their Hanover Township store had a "very challenging day" after a woman coughed on the fresh produce, as well as some of their bakery section and meat items.

The Hanover Township Police Department confirmed they are investigating an incident at Gerrity's Supermarket in which a female customer "intentionally contaminated" produce/meat/merchandise for sale.

The suspect has been identified and was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. Criminal charges are expected to be filed against the woman.

Hanover Township Police have been contacted for further comment.

Earlier this week, a man was charged with terrorism offences after allegedly coughing on a supermarket worker in New Jersey and telling her he had coronavirus.

George Falcone, 50, of Freehold, was charged with terrorist threats in the third degree and harassment following an incident at a Wegmans store on March 22.

"These are extremely difficult times in which all of us are called upon to be considerate of each other— not to engage in intimidation and spread fear, as alleged in this case," New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said while announcing the charges.

"Exploiting people's fears and creating panic during a pandemic emergency is reprehensible. In times like these, we need to find ways to pull together as a community instead of committing acts that further divide us," said Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

13 Deaths in a Day: An ‘Apocalyptic’ Coronavirus Surge at an N.Y.C. Hospital
Hospitals in the city are facing the kind of harrowing increases in cases that overwhelmed health care systems in China and Italy.

Elmhurst, a 545-bed public hospital in Queens, has begun transferring patients not suffering from coronavirus to other hospitals as it moves toward becoming dedicated entirely to the outbreak. Doctors and nurses have struggled to make do with a few dozen ventilators. Calls over a loudspeaker of “Team 700,” the code for when a patient is on the verge of death, come several times a shift. Some have died inside the emergency room while waiting for a bed.

A refrigerated truck has been stationed outside to hold the bodies of the dead. Over the past 24 hours, New York City’s public hospital system said in a statement, 13 people at Elmhurst had died.

“It’s apocalyptic,” said Dr. Bray, 27, a general medicine resident at the hospital.
