Comfortably numb!
... considering many folks, a lot not reported, do have lingering health issues, not to mention getting re-infected. Those that survived, don't want it again. It is reportedly worst than the HK flue (H3N2) of '68. I caught that fucker... don't want this one. Based on reported correlations, take me out 1st go around!

surviving a bad case of it may just be the beginning of your problems, with all of the long-term effects it is starting to display in some cases.

so how many of the official cases don't die & don't recover ?

from Chris Martenson, about 15%.

anybody else know ?

I would call that that "Covid disabled" rate. Some are using the term Covid Long Term'ers ... there's a Facebook group for them.

the basic idea ... people that used to run 10K's ... won't be running any more 10K's. now they struggle to walk 1 mile. Many of them struggle to walk 100 yards.

also, some asymptomatic cases are also experiencing damage to their bodies - but there's no pain.

part of that is, damage to organs with no pain nerves, e.g. parts of lungs.

how many of them will end up disabled ?

Looks like in a week or less, the first one MILLION souls will have been claimed by this pandemic. One wonders how many million more lives will be snuffed out, before the contagion burns itself out as did the Ebola virus.

Ebola didn't burn itself out. Patient isolation and contact tracing did it.

The Spanish Flu burned itself out because after killing about 40 million people, everyone left was immune. It had no one left to infect.

The administration of the United States of America has this information on hand. It is open and verified.
Herd Immunity I believe it is called. No contact tracing, no isolation or quarantine needed.
It works, the Spanish Flu proved it works. There is no Spanish Flu today and if we continue to deliberately spread this virus there will be no Covid-19 either in a few years.

It is all a matter of listening to the appointed president and waiting patiently while another fifty million people die.

With today's population, America can provide that number all by themselves. The high death count is good for Trump and the republicans, but, and this is a big but, will it leave enough boots on the ground to fend off nations attempting to harm us?

Not widely published, but still a fact, the spread in our military is a tad bit more aggressive than in the non institutionalized civilian population.

Spreading the pandemic has destroyed our gross national product and is in the process of destroying our military
This is the classic "If I can't have it, nobody can" attitude that gets so many children's toys broken.
Anyone else remember children like that? Did it not suck when such a child was given authority over you?

There really are folks out there that hate America. They have been wearing their happy face buttons for a few years now, Trump is the greatest boon the world has ever given them

Nations intent on harming you don't have the capability to cross the ocean. And for the most part, it's only because you're in their backyard. You have more cops then most armies, and more guns than the world has bad guys, so I wouldn't worry much about that. And if you're government tells you "these bad guys want to hurt us so we have to go over there and kill them" they're bullshitting you. What they really mean is "we want their shit and they won't give it to us." But most every country is like that.

It's not just the US. Everyone's GDP is in the shitter. Most countries are worse off. But that doesn't mean it can't get worse. I'm more worried about the extreme climate events we're seeing. One or two good "dust bowl" droughts would really mess things up. Right now it's on the coast, but if it spreads to the corn belt, you're fucked mate.

When shit hits the fan, the thing we need most are friends, and I have to admit, your current leadership has alienated all of yours. It'll take decades to fix that. Trust is hard won, but easily lost.

How the Coronavirus Attacks the Brain
It’s not just the lungs — the pathogen may enter brain cells, causing symptoms like delirium and confusion, scientists reported.

The coronavirus targets the lungs foremost, but also the kidneys, liver and blood vessels. Still, about half of patients report neurological symptoms, including headaches, confusion and delirium, suggesting the virus may also attack the brain.

A new study offers the first clear evidence that, in some people, the coronavirus invades brain cells, hijacking them to make copies of itself. The virus also seems to suck up all of the oxygen nearby, starving neighboring cells to death.

It’s unclear how the virus gets to the brain or how often it sets off this trail of destruction. Infection of the brain is likely to be rare, but some people may be susceptible because of their genetic backgrounds, a high viral load or other reasons.

“If the brain does become infected, it could have a lethal consequence,” said Akiko Iwasaki, an immunologist at Yale University who led the work.

The study was posted online on Wednesday and has not yet been vetted by experts for publication. But several researchers said it was careful and elegant, showing in multiple ways that the virus can infect brain cells.

Scientists have had to rely on brain imaging and patient symptoms to infer effects on the brain, but “we hadn’t really seen much evidence that the virus can infect the brain, even though we knew it was a potential possibility,” said Dr. Michael Zandi, consultant neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Britain. “This data just provides a little bit more evidence that it certainly can.”

Dr. Zandi and his colleagues published research in July showing that some patients with Covid-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus, develop serious neurological complications, including nerve damage.
