Better call your Repesentatives , unless you're O K with this for the rest of your life

(1)$100,000,000,000 for fiscal year 2020; and

(2)such sums as may be necessary for each of fiscal year 2021 and any subsequent fiscal year during which the emergency period continues.

DAMN.

$100 fvcking Billion for contact tracing.

this is getting to be too much like after 9-11, & the Patriot Act, and Obama's NDAA act.

other countries are doing 100 times better jobs than the US, in terms of deaths per million population, without having a cow.

the US is absolute Bottom of the Barrel in terms of every imaginable metric.

getting to the Question of Why Little Countries are Doing Better.

US states look to the federal gov. for guidance. But there is no help or guidance forthcoming, not in a timely manner.

the small countries did not look to an outside helper to help them, they just took charge.

New Zealand, Taiwan, Singapore, Czechoslovakia, South Korea, etc., all about the size of American states except Singapore which is a city-nation, had only themselves to look to.

So the states are waiting for the Fed. gov. to lead the way. at least that's what Louisiana says, when asked why they went ahead with Mardi Gras. 1 million people, that's a big carnival.

no shrine licking but lots of germ-swapping.

As Rick Bright describes, there was plenty of infighting and blocking of people's work at the place that fired him. Not sure if that's HHS or NIH.

there was another article about a US mask manufacturer that tried to contact the US gov. to make masks for them in February. the US gov. sat on its hands, not sure if they wanted to spend the money.

it's really an amazing clusterfuck. i think if anybody was writing this for a Hollywood thriller/scare movie, they would be afraid to say exactly what happened because it would seem so far-fetched.

in terms of the amount of fuck-ups, and the harm caused, it's definitely comparable to 9-11.

but, in the case of the US, 100% self-inflicted.

if the Covid19 experience could be packaged as a form of LSD - just a long hallucination that people eventually wake up from - i wonder how popular that would be.

maybe they could make it into a ride at Disneyland ? /sarc

if i was president, i would assemble a staff of experienced pot-growers from all 50 states and give them a week to start transforming work-spaces with ventilation etc.

Cannabis facilitates a unique combination of common sense and crazy ideas.

It really must. I have to say that the level of discussion I often find on pot boards is literally on an entirely different level of dialog than places like Facebook typically are. Even the most hardcore liberals, conservatives, progressives, or libertarians all seem to behave a lot better here than so many other places(good moderators helps).

“It’s two p.m. and we’ve already had 10 dead-on-arrival,”

Tijuana is getting Covid19 HAMMERED.

I like TJ, sorry to see them feeling the Covid19 pain. But the Mexican gov is doing a terrible job of educating their citizens about C19. The Mexican president is behaving like Trump & Bolsonaro in Brazil.

Breaks my heart to learn that Tijuana is infected so badly, because it is literally shouting distance from the southern counties of San Diego, my favorite city on this planet, where many a fond memory lies.

I recall renting horses due south of San Diego, near the beach down by the border fence, on the other side of which you could see folks patiently waiting for nightfall, when they would make that mad dash into America.

The horse rental place warned us not to ride too close to the fence, so the Mexican federales didn't grab us and haul us in until bribes were paid for freedom

Now that close proximity, and myriad illegal fence crossings after dark from Tijuana into San Diego counties southern reaches, constitutes a grave threat to human life. So sad to hear this news.

Woodstock Occurred in the Middle of a Pandemic

In my lifetime, there was another deadly flu epidemic in the United States. The flu spread from Hong Kong to the United States, arriving December 1968 and peaking a year later. It ultimately killed 100,000 people in the U.S., mostly over the age of 65, and one million worldwide.

Lifespan in the US in those days was 70 whereas it is 78 today. Population was 200 million as compared with 328 million today. It was also a healthier population with low obesity. If it would be possible to extrapolate the death data based on population and demographics, we might be looking at a quarter million deaths today from this virus. So in terms of lethality, it was as deadly and scary as COVID-19 if not more so, though we shall have to wait to see.

“In 1968,” says Nathaniel L. Moir in National Interest, “the H3N2 pandemic killed more individuals in the U.S. than the combined total number of American fatalities during both the Vietnam and Korean Wars.”

And this happened in the lifetimes of every American over 52 years of age.

According to wiki, the us COMBAT deaths for korea and vietnam add up to 80k we passed that today. Total deaths from hn32 world wide was one million. Covid has killed 2.5million world wide.
Hn32 killed 100k americans. We will easily pass that. We are at 80k now and people are dropping their guard.

I dont understand why some sources continue to downplay this virus unless they actually want to see americans die.

I think you are good, medfinder ....it jives with what i see in other sources. .

Im tired of this whole "its no worse than the flu" nonsense.

Australian States loosening restrictions while warning Public not to relax social distancing. Warning of possible 'second wave'.

Total deaths for whole of Aust less than 100. Some States now have no cases at all.

in the US the uptick in cases will come from gatherings of Trump supporters basically. the Anti-Science crowd. you won't see many masks at their gatherings.

* American version Christians
* Muscle Car gatherings
* stock car races

the people who think American "freedom" includes the freedom to murder 1/2 the civilians in Vietnam for example.

Rural America is filled with aging Vietnam vets who don't want to be reminded about the massacre they participated in.

Their support of Trump, their aversion to science & history, all gets wrapped up in the psychology of the one demographic.

If you say that Singapore has a 3/ million fatality rate and the US 200+, while Singapore barely took a hit to their economy and never shut down ... it actually touches on the PTSD of a lot of Trump supporters. Makes them angry, they call it political speech, and literally censor that kind of speech.

Guys that claim they support the first Amendment - related to free speech.

it is a less rational group of people. they don't want to wear masks.

They will have gatherings, R0 will increase.

I would not call it a tragedy.

As long as I learn to be a little more considerate when I'm leaning past people to get the Spearmint gum at the supermarket, I think I got a little close last time.

I think it's possible the serious case rate of C19 will end up similar to some flu's.

But I've never worn masks or washed my hands regularly before.

Of course I don't know of any flu that causes a massive change in blood chemistry, related to clotting - that American "doctors" are still struggling to understand.

I know people are taking Vitamin C etc. but don't forget - Nicotine might be an anti-viral.

There are articles about tobacco smoke having anti-viral qualities.

I would like to find out more about possible anti-viral effects of chewing Nicotine Gum, and also, chewing tobacco.

I was already chewing a 2 mg Nicotine gum every day, also spearmint.

That is a good sign.

In and of itself, yeah.... but it really worries me that people are going to think this is over and start relaxing. Its not even close to over.

Now there seems to be evidence that SARS-COV2 can end up in your spinal fluid or brain. How long could the virus linger in such places? Could people appear to be getting over the disease, only to have it still lurking in their brain and spinal fluid?

I think the main problem is that they are in utter denial about the fact that they need to change how things are done on a very fundamental level. Traditional economic approaches are exposed for the predatory scams they are. What we're seeing right now is over-hunting. The rich normally exploit us, but right now they are overplaying their hands.

Oh what a mixed up world we live in!

I am left wing but enjoy stock car racing. And the Drags (Top Fuel now going under 4 seconds here in Oz). I am a Liberal and a Humanist and an Ecologist and I see how "traditional economic approaches" are raping the planet and will doom us all.

But, By Gee, I enjoy receiving my very generous age pension each fortnight!

(Sorry Medfinder. A bit off thread. Just stressing what a crazy world this is.)

all very real possibilities. a virus can be damn difficult to find in the human body.

diameter 60 nanometers

16 per micron

25 microns per .001 inches

.001 inches / 400

kind of small

100 billion per liter of blood at height of viral load.

how does the body get rid of every single one ?

not sure it does.
