Not to mention 1 case turned into 3 million in 6 months. At that rate the whole world would have caught it by Xmas if not for the lockdown. That's almost 2 billion dead by early 2021. And people are ignoring the lockdown, and some places are looking to lift the lockdown in order to protect billionaires wealth at the expense of our health.

There are so many that can't come to terms with the lockdown to begin with, and there seems to be even fewer still who have realized how long this actually has to continue.

Good time to refresh my familiarity with the rules of Cribbage. Been years since I played, but decades ago, I played Crib quite often.

Not remembering the rules to games I once played regularly has been an infrequent source of frustration. Backgammon & some of the card games, included.. Another moment the COVID-19 sheltering time provides for lemonade to be made from lemons... after chores of course; I have a moment here and there to refamiliarize myself with such things.

And time to paint my cabinets.

I watch my younger son get a bit stir-crazy. He has a lot more energy than I do, and he's recently taken to somewhat regularly touring the area with 2 of our 3 dogs, cruising in his vehicle. They go in circles, more or less, but sometimes larger circles.. All good, just as long as there's no stops without proper gear and protocol.

Hoping everyone and their families are safe. Been making trips for an at-risk family member weekly. Seemed like last week 60-70% of the people out were wearing a mask and exercising the appropriate distancing. Seemed liked very few were this week... Makes me nervous that people are so eager to return to their previous comforts. I can't help but feel horrible for the already overwhelmed healthcare workers.

I started a separate thread regarding icmag members or regular cannabis users you know, having Covid-19. Just wondering if it could be a protective. Saw article where France is studying if nicotine use could kill it. One study suggests 80% lower chance of getting a bad case.

Quite a few anaemic people have been getting the severe rash with the virus and has killed a few.My sis was very bad for about 10 days.Docs reckon it is the virus messing with bodies immune system, which then goes on the attack.

What do you think about Alaska reopening? I know you don't have many cases, but do you plan on continuing isolation?

I think that with the multiple causes behind our not having any real clue as to what our real infection rate is yet, to get a baseline understanding of where we are, it reminds me of my mother decades ago, asking me, "If all your friends dove off a bridge, would you jump as well?"

I think they're catering to economic concerns more than they are the reality of the still-early phases of this Virus.

Today's town-trip day for groceries, some hardware items, paint, etc. I'll be wearing a P100 and nitrile gloves (the current fashion statement for those who don't want to exude pink slime from their lungs), carrying my Lysol Wipes in a baggy in my vest, along with extra gloves, and still wiping down everything that gets put into the vehicle, before it gets put there.

If we're to suffer any reduction in population here, thus far not notably measurable, with 9 deaths attributed to COVID-19, I'd like to be one of those to still be healthy when the dip-netting for salmon opens up in Chitina, to be smoking fish, rather than one of those who's getting smoked by the crematorium.:)

Comfortably numb!
Avging 1500 new cases a day, Canada is not close to re-opening. NS has extended self isolation to 1 Jun. New cases last 2 weeks:

  • 3 day avg - 34,33, 29, 38, 20
  • 5 day avg 4 - 32, 33, 27.6
  • 2 week avg - 33.2
Our curve is not a mountain side (so to speak), but an increasing slope nonetheless.

When compared with the other Maritime provinces, we are the worse. That being said, Hfx has an international airport and, when we look at other Cdn hot spots (Mtl, To, Cgy, Van), they all have international airport in cities depicted.

Considering the lack of social distancing during the shoot out at the OK Corral and its aftermath. One can easily expect a new spike from that area. One should not simply blame the citizens here, but LEOs as well.

NB are ready to ease restrictions. Their curve has been flat since mid month. PEI has also done very well. Their curve has been flat since the beg of the month. NL flattened out mid month.

NB got in on it early, hence why we see a flat curve. PEI & Nl are islands, so not difficult to self isolate the islands from the rest of the country. Just keep your borders closed. OTOH, PEI's greatest industry is tourism :( ??? Patient zero in PEI was a selfish woman who was told to self-quarantine in To (port of entry) and decided to go home after 2 days. Guess what happened there?

Although BC had issues with senior home in the beginning, Qc, On NS are still having flare ups to this day. Of course this is magnified with staff being infected as well.

Newsome (CA gov) predicted 1 Aug for an opening based on paper projections. Most states want to use 0.9 new case # as a sign to re-open economy. Economies shouldn't re-open until that # is halved again e.g 0.5 Current US rate 1.3 (I don't remember the name of that number). Long and short, we want to see the number which represents, for every infected person, they will only infect 1/2 a person. e.g 2 people infected, will cause only one other person being infected (mathematically).

Watching the NS curve, and there was talk here to resume schooling on May 1st. That was a prediction @ week two of Apr. That was definitely a premature assumption.

Haven't we learned anything from previous countries who have opened too early. Britain is talking about re-opening in near future. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Only this week have they started to require quarantine for all returning Brit citizens from abroad. Heathrow has been opened all this time, with no checking!

I drove 9-10 hours to TO to pickup the wife start of march so she wouldn't have to jump on a connection home. We stayed in for 3 weeks. We have the great outdoors and very rural so we could go out on the trails and bush, work on our "Apocalypse" garden, and it was still tough. I can't imagine what it's like for city people in apartments.

Ya, opening early seems crazy. Why not open when it's time?

Gov. Cuomo worrying about homeless people riding on trains seems crazy.

They're going to dedicate state resources that they don't have - and yet not deal with the central problems related to homeless - i.e. high rents & ENORMOUS gov. real estate price supports.

Of course they are being insane generally at this point because they could solve 99%+ of Covid problems by handing out chloroquine & zinc - in malaria size doses that are comparable in safety to cannabis.

At this point they've shot off both knees with a shotgun, and are calling it progress.

Late stage capitalism.

"Ours is not to wonder why. Ours is but to do or die.... for the GDP, of course... and the Oligarchy," (who are anxiously fretting the possibility of a lower quality of caviar or champagne next season, if a few more of us don't place ourselves on the sacrificial alter of expendable worker drones).

---------------------------------------------

(Edit: masks at each store ranged from 50% to 85% by my rough estimation. Gloves were more scarce, though we had them. I saw no one else wiping downor decontaminating their packages, groceries, etc., the way we do, before loading them into the vehicle. Though this time I saw no one giving non-verbal cues that they thought our activity re. decontaminating packages was a bit too 'Sheldon-ish').

I went in to Costco earlier today (as well as 3 other stores), and the first stop (because it's closer to the entrance) was the liquor store for a box of wine for a family member... California Cabernet Sauvignon, 3-liter box, Kirkland store brand, the equivalent of (4) 750-ml bottles for $12.99 total. $3.25/bottles, and not bad chit..

Standing there in my P100, with mechanics' nitrile 6-mil gloves, this fellow in an N95, old-school style, so maybe not an N95 (I wasn't getting close enough to read the thing), comes up along-side me with his case of beer, maybe 3 ft. away.

Not having the benefit of my mouth being visible due to my own mask, and 1/4 of my face covered, interfering in my efforts at delivering non-verbal cues when someone's an asshat, I gave him the stink-eye, and he's looking straight into my eyes, so assuming my face is working, and acknowledging I haven't had any Botox treatments, he likely could see an expression of displeasure, even if simply via my eyes.

Ignorant bastage doesn't step back. In fact, takes a step a bit closer, so I again zero in on the miscreant with my best eye-squint, as to say, "How badly do you want your ass beaten this morning?"

Finally I reiterated my routine line that's been used, lately, WAY too often, considering our glorifying ourselves as a thinking/thoughtful species. "The six foot thing is still a thing."

He stares at me, doesn't move, still eye-to-eye. The clerk says fuck all.

I uttered, "Pricks; one born every second of every day, it seems..." and went on my way to do the rest of my shopping.

Then there's the folks with or without masks, who park their large shopping cart on one side of the aisle, but a bit toward the middle, then scan the opposite side, standing on the opposite side from their cart, for periods of time that tell me their eye-sight is at least as hampered as mine, and maybe they're less literate; perhaps rode the short bus to school as youngsters? No thought about the jam they create as ONE lone shopper, taking up the entire (relatively wide) aisle, while folks who are trying to be respectful of personal space, back up in some sort of warehouse shopping cart traffic jam.

I concluded a LONG time ago that many people drive exactly the way they shop, and vice versa, and too few persons have questioned them about it sufficiently to cause them to engage in a bit of self-examination... Heaven forbid our species would engage in introspection sometimes.

So yeah, another town trip where I'm CERTAIN I need to do fewer of them, if I want to keep my spotless adult criminal record intact..
