composting soil question

Guest

i dont want to make a big giant tea for a couple seedlings... i was thinking of taking a bottle of water, and putting some blood meal in it for a couple days and it should be good?

go light on the blood meal. If you can pick up some fish emulsions at Lowes. About 5.00$
Mix that at 1/4 strength and water in. They will shoot up fast.

il see if i can pick some of that up within the next week. but for now how much blood meal would you mix into a bottle of water (500ml)

how can i give them n without brewing a big giant tea? mix some blood meal into some water?

hey you know you can just brew a gallon, or half a gallon if thats all you need .what do you have around to feed them with. whats the npk ratios. just look for something with a good Nitrogen supply. just go easy on them there still young, they can handle as much wormcasting tea as you throw at them though.

i wouldnt put blood meal in a bottle the alaska fish and wormcastings should be fine for such a young plant.

Hey guys thanks for filling in for me,

I would just topdress the soil with worm castings and water lightly with a mixture of water and a little fulvic acid.

You CANNOT burn with EWC anjd seedlings are delicate for awhile until about the first transplant.

Nice to see things going your way and I'm glab "my boys" pitched in and covered my ass.

i got the fish emulsion and wet the one thats showing deficiency down at 1/4 strength... should i still sprinkle some more EWC over top of the cup?

V

No I would just wait until you transplant, the fish poop will take care of the N.

No 1/4 strength fish fert is fine, V gave you equally good advice, as long as you use it sparingly with seedlings.

Very fine example in this thread of the community pulling together to help someone grow fine herbs, gentlemen and women. Good folks here.

how often should i be watering with this? until the transplant?

also , the bottle says 5ml per litre.

how can i measure 1.25 ml ???

nevermind the last question. 1/4 tsp = 1.23 ml so i guess il use that.

Thanks canine, we love you too man.

When the the soil at the very top is dry give it a day of two and then water.
If your watering every 3 days or less then you know you are ready to transplant.
When it needs watering the pot will weigh alot less, it will feel light and it will be obvious after awhile when they will need water just by lifting or watching the topsoil.

or snap apick if you not sure nwell help ;)

the top soil is very dry, but it still has some weight too it. should i be concerned about the ph of 1/4 strength of this fish emulsion in my water?

is there anything else i should add to the fish water?

V

vonforne

a teaspoon per gallon of molasses. don't worry about the PH on 1/4 strength.

V

not enough to worry about this close to your transplant date. You will be in your composted soil as soon as the other clones catch up....right?

yeah... the first plant, i can see a decent ammount of roots on the side of the cup. the other one is just starting to show roots

Don't sweat the ph for seedlings, they need so little nutrients that it's of little concern.
Plants stil have nutrients availble to them at ph's that are less than ideal however the further into the plants life we get the more you need the optimal ph to allow your plants to absorb the most elements from the soil and the right ph is the first step.

I don't test ph ever but I have a recipe and a water source I know by heart.
If you want to be sure just buy some ph test strips, they are cheap and 100% effective.
If you feed with teas or organic ferts that are within the 6.2-6.8 ph range then you are fine, if you used dolomite lime than you have even less to worry about.
