composting soil question

how do i tell when to water? the top of my soil is brown, but i can see moisture on the side of the cup... i dont want to stick my finger into the soil because:
1. its in a small 10oz beer cup
2. i dont want to damage the newly born root system...

suby, is it okay to be watering my newborns with molasses in their water?

i think i can right? because the molasses is just food for the microherd...

yup sry i've been away tday

go sparingly with seedllings, 1 tsp per gallon sounds fine.
when in doubt water just a little rather than drown them and remember to poke holes in your beer cup just in case.

How's it going C? We have not heard from you in a while. How is that new soil mixture going?

my seedlings are loving the pro mix, perlite and a sprinkle of EWC. my other soil is still composting and when the seedlings are big enough im going to transfer them into that and all should be well... strangely enough the ugly duckling plant is doing well in that moss stuff... its actually greening up and all im feeding it is bottled water and the amendments in the soil are taking care of the nutrient issues...

Good to hear C. Keep up the good work for the girls and they will pay you back for your kindness.

Now you are cooking with gass man, I want pics as soon as possible. :D
The moss plant stiull has a shot if you transplant it into some real soil, it will do fine.
The ammendments are breaking down and the plant will do alright for a short while but moss only makes a little nutes availble, not enough for flowering IMHO.

Peace

first of all, i started out with 2 seeds 1 cm deep into my mix (70% pro mix 30% perlite with a sprinkle of EWC) i dont know why, but one of them didnt sprout for 5 days, so i pulled the seed out and the taproot was only about an inch long... im not sure why that was but then i popped another seed into a couple of wet paper towels in a tupperware container and after 2 days i had a small taproot. then i put it into this mix i described above and was sure to keep it moist, then 2 days later i had a sprout. now the first one that survived, it has 2 sets of leaves showing and the third set is coming in right now. the one that i started a week later has 1 set of leaves and the second set is coming in nicely.

on the first one, i can see some roots on the side of the container and i have to water it every 2-4 days. im going to wait until a stronger rootball is developed because i can only see roots on one side of the cup. i cant see any roots on the side of the container for the second one but i should be seeing some shortly.

my soil has been composting for 2 weeks tomorrow and i plan on transplanting the first one this week coming up into the mix.

the plants are in 10oz beer cups so they dont have very much room to grow, thats why i can see the roots so early.

Good job. Keep up the good work. Did the one you pulled out of the mix survive?

ok, suby or vonforne. i have a question. i was just checking on my plants this morning and the bigger one (the one thats a week older) its cotyledon's are starting to yellow. should i be transplanting into the mix with all the nutrients now, even though the rootball isnt as developed as i would like it to be?

the other little guy is going good... still no signs of roots on the side of the cup

the big guy, the one in the moss is doing great... that plant is proof that the marijuana plant is very hardy and can withstand almost anything you throw at it. i have noticed many new growth tips and i **think** i might be seeing preflowers. maybe i can try and snap some shots later.... i plan on growing out the big plant in just this moss stuff just for fun... all i have to do is give it straight bottled water because i dont know whats up with the moss, but it wont drink up tea's. its just an experiment.

you can leave it in the cups (big one) and give it a light shot of N. That way it will develope the roots that you want before transplanting. Oh and Suby is fishing this weekend so I answered your question. Hope you don't mind. I will just fill in for him.
the yellow cotyledons are telling you that its about time for ferts. Verrrrrry light.
And good luck on the preflowers, that would be cool for you.
