Compact SOG with CFL's

DrBudGreengenes- Thanks man love it :p Still a little "bland" but its cool :p

Ya about the 15amps in a phone cable ALL THE TIME, I was thinking thats a little crazy because you can die from .5amps... And Iv worked with telephone wires all the time and touched them freely without any shock... Regardless they would shock you a little, but the amps being 15.. is doubtful :p

BUT nothing wrong with making a little mistake. Good info Doc :p

Smoke on :p

haha, damn, well I dont know the numbers, but whatever the case I think I didnt explain it properly. He is using a 120V converter, which is drawing off the batteries, and they somehow hooked upto the phone line and solar for a recharge. Whatever the usage is, it seems to work. I'll ask him again, take notes, pay more attention, and smoke less weed while talking to him. :joint:
In the meantime, I'll sit and wait till I get some more detailed and ACCURATE figures before throwing it out there again. :wallbash:

I don't know about amps in a phone line, but the voltage varies

Line voltage on a typical telephone line is...
48 volts DC (on hook)
5.1 Volts DC (talking)
96 volts AC (ringing)

From searching online, it appears the amperage is 20-50 mA (milliamps)

blynx- very nice find indeed :p Those AMP figures look a lot more accurate..

swurv- dont worry about it man, With blynx update you probably just forgot to through in the m in front of the A for the Amps.. :p

Very easy mistake anyone could do it. Because .5amps(500mA) can kill you :p eheh always remember that for when your talking about Electricity :p

guys just a heads up if it hasnt been mentioned before......

tapping into phone lines for power usage greatly effects DSL bandwidth
if a customer were to notice their speed drop they may call the phone company
the phone company can and will find who is stealing power.

yeah, rural guys are nuts, they get away with all kinds of stuff city folk can't/won't.
:fsu:
Anyway...back to growing.....

I'm gonna try and do a staggered SOG...and this is hopefully the beginning of the moms.

I have one bagseed(unknown) and one purchased off a grower through a friend, says their Northern Lights X Haze, so we'll see whats up...might screw with any timing for staggering as I hear N.L. X Haze is a bit slower than Skunk and Blueberry strains, which I'm planning on purchasing soon.

But I want Variety of smoke,:rasta: and with room for 36 3" pop bottle planters, I think three moms can handle the load.

Question: dialing in with one strain will eliminate any timing variations in finishing time, but can a variation of 1-2 extra weeks for one in every three plants be tolerated or accommodated? If so, how?

Hey DrBudGreengenes, I remember admiring your grow from GC. I was greeny909 on there, not that you'd remember me, lol.

I had a couple of questions if you don't mind.

When first starting out a perpetual grow from scratch, do you start out with only 3 plants in the cabinet, then keep adding 3 plants the next week and so on, until the cabinet is full ?

How much time would you estimate that you use per day on a grow such as yours ? Your watering method seems interesting. How long would you say it takes to water all of your plants each time ? An hour or so ?

Again, let me say, a most impressive grow ! Your yield is insane. Your CFL's put many HPS users to shame ! lol

Ok Doc, I'm Getting ready to give this a try but before i do so, is there a way you could recommend on setting this up so that i wont have to pull all 100 of the 1 gal pots out to water individually? I'd like to set it up in a way that i could water a bunch of them at once but since your the guy with the experience i'd rather get your opinion.

I could fit 144 1 gal containers in the room but i dont have the clones to do this right now, so im gonna go 1 clone per container until this grow is complete and then my mothers should be big enough to supply atleast 3 clones per container. This time i'm gonna go all C99 and SK#1 clones and i'll do Atomic NL and Chronic for the next grow.
So for the first round i'm not expecting much of a yield but i'll learn a bit and still get a nice amount of smoke.

DrBudGreengenes, Still dont know why your plants dont stretch too much being that far from lights. People say that about 5 inches is how far u can get with cfls.

You can have as many strains as YOU want....
That my friend is the Wonderful thing about the FLOWERING room always being at 12/12....
So if you have room for 36 and Ya have ...
Blueberry....9 weeks fer' best (my exp. :rasta: )
SK1 most phenos or crosses 8-9 weeks
Haze X NL#5..........12 to 21 weeks (My Exp. :rasta: I kept the 21 week pheno.....friends wanted the faster finisher and lived to regret it........ )
So........Now we put in 18 Blueberry cuts, and 9 Skunk....and have 9 "Open" spots for "Playin' around with new stuff and longer finished strains
That will give Ya' 2 finished "Berry" budz and 1 finished "Skunk" every week....with the Extras comin' in as needed.

You will just need to "Dial-in" each strain and KEEP good records....for start-up height of each strain.........I have that Data on over 60 strains....once you have it it does not change if the Pheno is not changed.......
Corners or back walls are a "Good place" for the long timers....a Good Haze may see 2"Berry Cycles" go thru right next to it....B4 she is done.
Get the Idea? :rasta:

You can do that........But why waste light "Lighting up the Floor"
When you can......
Unscrew a few bulbs and put up a movable "Partition" and move it as needed.
You could also fill the box/area to the "Gills" and remove "The Older" one as you add the "Real Cuts" use the other to make "Weed Milk" or "Butter" while you wait on yer first Harvest :rasta:

I open the Box everynight ..........and remove water and replace each one every 2 days in Winter (Wood Stove drys out air) Every 3 days in Summer.
Prolly .........10 min per day Everyday and Bout an Hour on watering dayz

Again, let me say, a most impressive grow ! Your yield is insane. Your CFL's put many HPS users to shame ! lol

Thanks Bro............Happy growin' :rasta:

Build a "Tub" the size of the room ..........Wooden frame......Two layers of Tarp.....line with poly....two layers......this can be..."flooded & Drained" or watered from above using a "Trash Can" res. and a hose and water wand(W/shut-off)

The Lights are Self-Ballasted CFL's......
Model ES42 (from HomeDepot)
Sockets are also for sale there...
Wiring is SIMPLE they all have two screws....1 silver and 1 brass.....lamp cord has two wires run ...........one continuous wire from the last socket to the first.....connecting all the brass screws with one wire and connecting all the silver ones with the other........add a plug to the end and its done :rasta:

Don't Stretch?.......they are 1" tall when they go in....stretch is figured into the equation and is neccessary for SOG :rasta:

cant wait. i just recieved my 1/2 gallon pots and am ready to go, transplanted 9 clones from solocups. gonna give them 48 hours to heal up and into flower they go. cant wait to see how they respond. thank you DRbud for the inspiration. i figure 9 clones maybe 7g a piece 63 grams per harvest, and planning on 9 more every 3 weeks. for a 9 week cycle. you da man.. man..!!!

I calculated that your cab has a surface area of approximately 19.45 sq. ft. and based on
DrBudGreengenes said:
45.13 Lumens per sq. Inch
you have approximately 6498.72 lumens per sq. foot.

According to some individuals you need 8000 to 10000 lumens per square foot during flower.
You are using 5 42 watt bulbs which is not enough to produce 8000 to 10000 lumens per square foot in your cab.

Anyway, it seems that the prescribed 8000-10000 lumens per square foot rule is incorrect based on the yield of your cab.
LouGrew! on page 23 talks about your low lumens but you do not talk about this.
Are high yields with low lumens dependent on strain, setup, etc? I would love to hear your opinion on this.
Thanks for the wonderful thread. Keep it up.

I would have sent a PM but I don't have enough posts.

I'm guessing he has around 12000 lumens total, or 6000 lumens per square foot.
If you read the whole thread you will find that he's also talking about how using less light than generally recommended per square area allows for a higher yield.
