Commercial growing and New growers

In the last couple of months I have been recieving many PMs and posted questions concerning irrigating, or preparing the soil for very large gardens.

These people make it clear they are aspiring to grow large quanities, and by the nature of the questions it is clear many of them have never even grown a cannabis plant in their lives. I find this disturbing.

I first started posting on OG and then here because I wanted to help people who have never grown(or are very new to growing) to have the confidence to grow their own smoke, even if they have no other choice but to grow it in the bush like me.

And don't get me wrong, I don't hate commercial growing at all, I won't say I have not been in the practice of selling off my surpluses, but I won't brag about it either.

I do feel that the ultimate goal of legalization is going to be more likely reached when more people grow their own, and less people buy, when the system is truely "Overgrown".
A favorite saying of mine: "Sell a man a ounce, and he will smoke for a while, teach a man to grow, and he will smoke for a lifetime".

What I will say is that any new growers who feel they would like to grow commercial quanities should learn to grow first, get a season or two under their belts, and see how the grow scene works in their climate/area before they go to the trouble and danger of possibly getting caught or loosing their crop to poor planning and lack of experience.

By the time a person is ready for the workload of growing many pounds each year, they should not be asking many(if any) questions about growing at all, in my humble opinion, they should darn near be experts.

The experienced growers on this site should take responsibilty to make sure to advise these noivice growers to control their greed, and be careful before their first outdoor grows turn into their last, I have not been posting here and on OG all this time to show high school kids how to get to jail.

I agree, that is why I never associate myself with newbies, they think they can plant a few seeds and become a millionaire. Many people who think like this end out very dissapointed. It's not really worth growing unless it becomes a passion, and many years into this passion, if your good at it, you may have the possibility of making good money. That is if you devote all your time to it and go through the back breaking labour. That's like friends who want ounces for free because it's home grown, they figure why not because it's 100% profit. Grrrrrrrrr......

I get my biggest laughs from people that are just going to grow a hundred pounds. They don't realize the amount of work involved in that. If they grew and trimmed just 5 pounds they would understand the amount of time and work involved.....

it's good that people dream BIG...but their expectations are unreal. like BC said: some people can't grow grass and weeds let alone cannabis and suddenly they want to grow pounds of the stuff.
some of us have enough seeds to grow a few thousand plants...but it's hard enough to pull a few every season...let alone a few hundred of them.
i know a guy who got his first 2 pounder last year. he harvested half and he left the rest behind because he could not transport it and even like that it was too much for him...but he wasn't selling anything.

My advice to anyone who's thinking about doing a commercial outdoor would be to stop smoking from april-october minimum :joint: :bashhead: and learn everthing their is to know about irrigation. :canabis: Come april/may i'll show you what commercial is. :D

in all honesty I don't tell them anything.

the shit won't work out. we know that. the effort, money, and know how it takes to commercial guerilla grow is absurd. its better if they spend a few hundred dollars, waste alot of time, kill alot of plants, and after alot of lost time and money maybe they'll realize they are kids and too big for their britches.

best way to get people back to reality is to let reality give them a swift kick in the ass. ie- failure. which is inevitable for 99% of these kids that think this work. wasting all the money they saved working at mc donalds or whatever should put their head on straight.

I just hope they don't come to that realization while they are in jail.

I like that someone referred to as a passion. I know it is for me. I 've had so much failure I would have never kept going if I it was not something I love. Every season I learn something and step on my dick too.
I totally understand the part about the work that goes into it too. Every year I have to leave something behind because I simply do not have the time or security or whatever. Taking a plot from seed to harvest is a lot of work. Some times these boards read like an infomercial for real estate rags to riches

It’s so easy to get rich. HAHAHA.

I have one friend who knows I grow but very limited knowledge. I gave him a few plants for a couple of years and he saw what the work and dedication was like. He failed both times. If you do not have a passion for it especially outdoors where the work is ten fold its not for you.

Great post BC.

I agree with most of what you said Back C But when it comes down to actually telling a Grandeur Deluded newbie about the way it really is they attack you and call you a hater. No one wants to hear that their dreams of a First Time Million Dollar Crop are just that ... dreams. I don't think taking heat from a kid you were trying to help is anyones responsibilty. kcuF I recently took heat because I suggested posting a pic of Reds shipping method was a bad idea. They actually argued with me about this until Red and others stepped in ... Go figure.

WeedWrapperMan- I'd say the correct way to handle a overzelous "grower to be", would be to just advise taking it easy the first time, and really see what it really looks and feels like to grow before commiting time, resources, and possibly their freedom.
Pictures and talk on the internet can be unintentionally misleading in what it portrays to many individuals.
Its best to get a education first, and especially a education in how growing works in your neighborhood, you favorite online grower may seem to have a easy time with pests, with their weather, etc, but this doesn't mean that they are universal truths. Even for a plant that is actually very easy to grow, some growers may find that growing commercial ammounts in their specific climate is a much tougher game than they thought. They may also find that law enforcement/Ripper activity is actually higher in their area than they thought.

Lots to learn! Most careers require a education, schooling and/or mentoring, in growing Cannabis, unless you can grow with another experienced grower firsthand, you often have to start small and teach yourself, a growers first grow or two should be considered your education. EDIT I mean your ENTRY education, it actually goes on long after that......

What most people who have never grown don't realise is that it takes quite a bit of hard work and knowledge to realise the seeds full potential.
This being my 4th grow i couldn't imagine being able to pull off a really big grow, let alone someone who has never grown.
Besides it would be too much work and risk to me if i had to maintain more than 10 plants, i'm not the kind of guy who likes to slave from dusk to dawn.
If you want to earn real money go to college, you'd have to grow hughe fields before you'd even come close to what a good economist or lawyer makes without risking getting locked up for a significant portion of his life.

For many years I tried talking myself into trying to do a 100 pound grow. I just can't bring myself into undertaking that amount of work. It would be damn hard for a single person to do it guerrilla. Ive done half of that when I was younger, and with help, so I can't see me being able to pull it off alone. Between dry weather, thieves and cops, that's a lot of plants to start and finish.

Anyone that thinks this is easy is a fool at best.........It took me several years to get to where i am and i aint just whistling Dixie. The first and foremost thing you have to achieve is finding a strain that gives you the results you`re looking for in your climate and in your timeframe... If i was a rookie and i wanted to grow and do it right i`d find as many seed strains...preferably clones as possible and grow them out.......i`d plant them in 3 or four locations with the same genes in each crop.....this would assure that you get to harvest at least one of the sites and hopefully all of them.
I`d keep an eye open for early bloomers and go from their....this is a true and tried method that can cut years from your schedule and save a lot of hardwork...........hope this helps.
