Columbian Gold 72

Mine is on it's 7th month of curing but I have no idea what is best. I was not that impressed at first so I let it cure and concentrated on other strains. I recently rediscovered the CG72 and it is indeed gold: electric but balanced, music is incredible, long lasting, very recreational, euphoria that doesn't stop and after so much ecstasy a feeling of gratitude emerges from the heart and the spiritual side of this strain appears: it has healing properties by giving joy.
Perfect for parties, making love, listening or composing music, focusing on creative activities. Don not expect to go to sleep, it's a festive weed, a long intense and mellow trip (but not trippy in a visual sense, more an emotional one). I'll make an entheogenic comparison: it's more like mescaline than psilocybin.
Mine is the green form (doesn't purple in the cold), the smell and taste are woody-incense-turpentine with a touch of vanilla. In my opinion, this strain is a superior cultivar, praises to Jahgreenlabel for preserving it.

...and it's my 72th post on Icmag haha

A book I read that was written by an "importer", said the color was due to the minerals in the soil of the Santa Marta area. I would have to dig through it to find the mineral he said it was.,

I, however, always heard the Colombian "cousins" (also the Mexican ones about the Dorada de Guerrero aka Acapulco Gold) say that, although the variety could give many examples of golden/yellow flowers ("moño amarillo"), that such a "straw-blond" colour was due to extensive drying on the ground under the sun...

Great review achille, covers the effects in detail. On the color, I think originally there were dry years around '75/'76 ( I read that in a book by a pot smuggler) and the plants dried in the sun for lack of water. When it was learned that the gold color was favored by the gringos, well you can guess the rest. There may have been some genetics involved with the gold color as well. I think there were and also the Acapulco Gold.

Mezz Mezzrow's Really the Blues contains some good weed lore from the 1920s-1930s jazz scene. His connection was in Chicago from a source in Mexico, and the weed was called "gold leaf". Primo golden herb has been around a lot longer than the Colombian gold some of us enjoyed in the 1970s.

The “MIGHTY MEZZ” love Jazz and cannabis they just go together soo well... he was an interesting person for sure, sold to all the best jazz musicians and was a musician himself.

Good point on Mezz. He became a junky but did a lot to advance quality pot also. I wonder if his strain he imported was what later became known as Acapulco Gold. Never know but interesting anyways. His stuff was supposed to be way better than anything else around at that time. If you had the connects you had high quality pot or hash from way back. There was a credible guy in High Times, talking about green hash from Greece that was one hit shit. This was in the 40's.

Greetings All!

I have a quick update! last year I grew a pretty rough crop of CG1972s for reproduction. I ended up having only hermie males to pollenate with and I wondered if I would be able to get any true females out of the seed batch that I produced from the hermie male pollen. The results are in: Yes.

And, further, it seems that you can identify those seeds with a simple visual examination.

Cheers and happy growing! :greenstars:

It seems CG72 is not a popular strain for outcrossing in the canna world

(Lemon Thai x THH) x CG72
Only 2 seeds made so I sprouted them to see what the CG72 male can do and compare it with the Lemon Thai x (Seedsman Hz x Golli Hz) cross which came out Lemon Thai dominant
Day 74 since shown first pistils and grown 11/13 from seed. This amount of resin on the stems I didnt see in the Lemon Thai x Ohz cross. A little bit on grandma but not like this. Fan leaves on this one are leaning to CG72 as opposite to the Ohz cross which are coming out leaning to Lemon Thai size fan leaves

Lower bud, she will stay until the end of the month indoors and then she will finnish outdoors hoping she wont reveg and keep flowering when photoperiod is on 13/11. Granma and mom were ready in 11 weeks. At 11 weeks here it seems a long way to go yet. The Lemon Thai x Ohz crosses are much faster, almost like mom, just a week or 2 longer dependeing on pheno

After seen this feature I sprouted a few seeds made with the CG72 male to see what happens
Seedman Hz July pheno x CG72, I am curious about this one

Have a nice weekend everybody

I'm liking these more spindly type of plants more and more. I'm only one person and cannot smoke that much anyway, so I just like to grow them and enjoy the process. Not every plant has to have huge dense buds to be a winner in my book. This looks like a sweet cross Funkyhorse, even if it doesn't yield that much and takes a long time to mature. ;)

CG72 The next generation
I am trying a few things with the genetics and these are the results at the moment
This is girl 3 from last year. She survivied the whole winter and this is a cut of her. Also the original mother cut survivor is flowering
It is clearly much faster than from seed. Maybe because it is in soil mother earth instead of pot? Or maybe this is because all those people claiming it is faster from cut are right?
They show sex at about the same time as the plants from seed
Cg72 fem 3 (2).jpeg
Cg72 fem 3 (3).jpeg

This is this progeny of the girl #3 from above, she was the best from the pack, I think it is very interesting to smoke the progeny side by side with the mother
CG72 girl 3 x (Seedsman Hz x Ohz90), pictures from 2 different girls from same bud
Cg72 fem 3 x seedsman hz (2).jpeg
Cg72 fem 3 x seedsman hz (3).jpeg

This is the progeny from the purple girl, she was second best from last year.
CG72 purple F2 girl 1, she has no resin at all so far
Cg72 purple f2.jpeg

CG72 purple F2 girl 2, she has resin and is more branchy than girl 1. I expected same girl x same boy of the same landrace to be more similar.
Cg72 purple f2 girl 2.jpeg

And this is progeny of CG72 purple girl x (Seedsman Hz x Ohz90). I hope the different combinations will give me a good indication of the outcome

N Thai x cg72 (2).jpeg
N Thai x cg72.jpeg

This is from same cross, hermie girl
N Thai x cg72 hermie.jpeg

Pachamama Haze 1 x CG72, same as with CG72 girl 3, I am having at the same time Pachamama Hz and her progeny to test side by side
Pachamama haze x cg72.jpeg

This is pachamama haze mother now, she is 4 meters tall. Same as with CG72 girl 3, from cut revegged from last year is much much faster
pachamama haze (5).jpeg

This is the best girl from MadMac's Seedsman Hz x Ohz90 cross from last year x CG72
Ohz mac Best x cg72 (2).jpeg
Ohz mac Best x cg72.jpeg

This is Double California= Seedsman Haze July pheno from original pack x CG72

How long do you all flower these indoors? Right now I'm at 19 weeks from switching lights to flower schedule. I think it took about 3 weeks to start flowering..
