And what news network should we boycott for the balloon boy escapade?
Blame the broadcasters, but that was a piece that could have been on any of the local channels.
That's a good point. The news media just pushes my buttons I hate mainstream news. It always has the spin of its respective network and it makes it very difficult to figure out whats actually happening. They cut out some things and stretch the meanings of others to tell the story they want to tell. Not what really happened. Boycott them all I say. In fact just stop watching TV period. My mother was right, it does rot your brain.

The guy that did the spot was calling 9News while the DEA was at his house, - they said they had a couple conversations with him until he declined to talk anymore

I'm betting the DEA boys had a hella giggle on the way back to the office.
Where did you get that info?

By JEFF TUCKER
THE PUEBLO CHIEFTAIN
A Pueblo jury took nearly eight hours Saturday to decide that a Beulah marijuana farmer was innocent of cultivating marijuana, but guilty of possessing it.

This is not an uncommon situation here. I think anything over 99 plants and your tempting fate though. It doesn't say why they were arrested. Was it for being over their plant count? It seems like they just got discovered by chance and the cops saw a little discrepancy when adding up the cards and counting the plants. I'm assuming that if the core group of 3 had prescriptions for 20 and the other seven only had 6 than that would bring their count to 102 so if he had 128 than they were a few cards shy.

If they did have enough cards with higher than normal plant counts than an MD evaluated them and wrote a prescription for extra plants. If so than who are the cops to decided what is ok and what is not? They aren't doctors. Neither is the judge. I'm assuming that if the core group of 3 had prescriptions for 20 and the other seven only had 6 than that would bring their count to 102 so if he had 128 than they were a few cards shy. It doesn't say how many plants their cards added up to.

This is what I'm talking about with the news chopping up the stories to lead people to guided false conclusions because not all of the facts are reported. We don't know what the real case argument is about here because the media source that delivered it left out weather or not they had an official plant count that covered 128 plants. Or even why they where raided in the first place.

Agreed - just read here on IC.
It's got everything I need to know anyway! lol

I was watching the news broadcast closer than usual that day. They came on and said he had not been arrested.
Yet.

And they had spoken with him a couple times on the phone while DEA was in the house. - The last time he didn't want to talk no more. Channel 9 was outside the house shortly after DEA Storm Troopers arrived. I think it was Monday morning and they were suppose to air the piece that night

A while later - he was in custody.
Things had started sliding down hill pretty quick after that.

That's where I got the info that the neighbors phoned him in also.

"Martha - isn't that jimmy the farmer down the street? Gimme the phone Martha!!! "

lol That made my day.

When was the last time any of you guys drove around a Highlands Ranch neighborhood with the windows down? There is no damn way that many skunks get hit on the street every night. Hopefully the DEA wont turn the place into a sadistic game of whack-a-mole where Sweetin holds the mallet and all of the growers just jump from house to house every time they get popped.

Same reason any medical grower is arrested. Rogue cops who don't understand, and/or don't respect the law and the constitution.
This is an awful thing to say but maybe it has come time to fight back in ways the rouge cops understand. PHYSICAL DEMONSTRATION!

[RANT edited out]

All I'm saying is if a few cops and DEA agents were strung up or put on trial it would send a powerful message back to the rest of them saying "dont fuck with this or you will get popped too". That's what they have been taunting us with for all of our lives. Now its their turn.

Ok I have a group survey.

What is your favorite strain to grow and why? (high yield, good bud, short flower, ect)

What is your favorite strain to smoke and why? (taste, high, indica/sativa preference, ect)

What is your preferred way of smoking (bong, joint, vape, pipe, ect)

I guess I'll go first

Favorite strain to grow: Island Sweet Skunk
It has huge colas and yields better than most of the strains I have grown. It has a longer flower period (70 days to finish right) but the colas are nice and big and it is fairly easy cause it likes lower nute levels.

Favorite strain to smoke: Trainwreck
It just gives me that tingly feeling in my chest after taking a big rip. Seems like it slowly soaks in for five seconds then BAM! it hits you like a shotgun to the face!

Favorite way to smoke:
BONG! I love my bongs. I keep them nice and clean so you can taste the bud better. A few hits and I'm good for a while. I have a water proof lighter and love to smoke in the shower. The glass pipe is next in line but I have to smoke multiple bowls for it to work so I just stick to the bong if I can.

Haha, exactly. I was reading in a follow up article saying he had 224 plants with less than 12 people designating him as a caregiver... and then he goes on 9news and brags? comon' now...

New Varieties. I like the idea of potentially creating something no one has ever experienced before. Not just pollenate here and there with accidental males, but rather seek out landraces and fresh gene pools to cross.

What is your favorite strain to smoke and why? (taste, high, indica/sativa preference, ect)
Apollo 11 so far. I got a rare pheno (before I knew what pheno meant) and it was the most energetic, happy cannabis ever. Sitting was not an option, I had to go biking, climb, hike... shit, even clean... just do something. I'm all about the cup of coffee and a bowl to start the day, so I prefer clear headed, no hangover strains. All the other phenos never were as crazy. Maybe one day I'll hit it again...

What is your preferred way of smoking (bong, joint, vape, pipe, ect)
I enjoy it all, as each is a different experience. The health nut in me has been trying to vape more but after I found out you can smoke vaped bud and get high again (lift more chemicals out that didn't get vaped) the stoner in me obviously wanted ALL of those chemicals in my brain.... so I'm back to the good old bong. I recently started growing calea zacatechichi and it ROCKS in a joint with some bedtime strain cannabis. Google it if you've never heard of it, one of the more subtle entheogens that is sedating when your conscious. But the real fun with calea begins when your sleeping...

Grapefruit. I once read that the guy who gave Spice of Life the Sweet Pink Grapefruit clone called it "the only plant to grow". That guy was right. To date, this plant is my "holy grail": super vigorous/stress resistant/easy to grow, smells fucking amazing, yields well, finishes quickly... my only complaint is that bugs like it as much as I do.

What is your favorite strain to smoke and why?

The "pink" Bubblegum pheno... smoking it reminds me of sitting on a dock with a fishing pole and a mouth full of "Big League Chew" as a kid. I cant help but feel joy under its influence. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find this pheno in seed form(trying BOG Bubble now) and I'm not too plugged into the clone scene...

Glass on glass, all day!

I like new things around, so anything new that peaks my interest.

All time favorite is 90's kali mist. Now I'd say banana kush, or lemon haze

Id say pipe.

Kelly how far along are you? They look pretty happy to me.

rmccinc719 - Looks good man! AK? NL?

Kelly - I've pretty much tried all the styles of cloning, straight to water - sucks. straight to soil - sucks. Straight Rockwool - sucks. Air layering/piercing into the xylem - very tedious if you want more than a few. People may disagree with me on the rockwool, but personally, I've never turned out a clone from rockwool that hasn't lost any foliage and its still 100% green and healthy. So what, you may be asking, they still all grow up after that initial shock. Well - hopefully.

I decided to change my cloning style after learning about Epigenetics, mainly that stress from the environment can cause mutations in DNA and phenotypical expressions, called somaclonal variation. What's worse, if you grow out the clone with somaclonal variation and take cuttings of her for another generation its possible to pass that mutation on, called germline mutation. Germline mutations can be homo/hetero/recessive/dominant, so its possible it may not be passed on, but its also possible it might. Since there are so many possible effects of mutation, yield, potency,etc../ may have been negatively affected through a genotype mutation (such as protein processing or something crazy like that) and you might never notice. Basically, what I'm saying is know where your genes are coming from if your designating a mother or breeding. Some dude may have received a cut from a buddy who took a cut, who sold it to the dispensary, who took a cut, who sold it to you, which you made your mother with. Beyond worrying about DNA, this method turned out clones faster so I just started doing all of them this way. Sorry for the rant, haha. This is what I do:

Daisy Cloner 8 site with 1.5 gallons ph 6.0 or so. 1 drop super thrive. I keep the res at about mid 70's. When the light goes off and the room temp drops, I have a mini fish tank heater kick on in the clone res to keep it warmer. Also have a humidome (tupperware bowl) on top with an under cabinet fluro for extra light, but mainly to keep the plants at high 70's to low 80's. 3-4 days roots, no yellowing or signs of stress, BAM, genetic perfection :D.

How do you really know that you have 'genetic perfection' simply b/c you use this method? Are you isolating a DNA sample before taking the cutting, and then isolating another sample after the cutting matures? Then comparing the sequence? I think it would be hard to tell if the DNA was 'perfect' if you weren't doing this, until you noticed some type of varying expression. And we know that mutations can occur w/o having effect on the plant whatsoever. The reality is that genetic mutation occurs regularly throughout the biological realm of organisms... without it, no evolution. Thanks again for bring this up! Cheers, dak :joint:

dakin3d- Some memory from bio-chem in college, but most of that info I learned from 'the cannabis breeders bible' by greg green. It's an awesome book and pretty advanced compared to more general grow books. Everything from creating seeds to breeding in selective recessive traits to protect your work. Amazon.com has them for 14 bucks. I'm sure you could find all the info on ICMAG but a book is nice so you don't have to wade through 20 pages of discussion from opposing viewpoints to get to the bottom of stuff.

Good call, that was kinda worded wrong... I should have said greater chance for genetic perfection. My buttered toast started kicking in near the end of that post. :joint: I just had to rant on cloning methods because I used a somaclonal mutated clone as a mother and grew a bunch of partially stunted plants for some time.... before I had any idea of what that meant.

While adding to the post I might as well clarify, a somaclonal mutation has to be bred (reproduce sexually) to create/be described as a germline mutation, because germline mutation can only come from the zygote.
